In terms of the governmental issue, I don't believe ours has an expiration date. This is a classic Japanese product that has been smoked, dried, and fermented. That's how the katsuobushi flavor profile is created, and it's something we've been doing for a long time. It tastes great. We're also in good health!
Japan is listed as the country of origin on our package.
There is 5 MG of salt per 1/4 oz serving, with no other additives, so it's likely the salt was added during the fish processing.
These bonito flakes are commonly used in Japanese cuisine, so I'm assuming they're safe to eat. Cats adore these flakes, which is why so many people, including myself, purchase them as kitty treats.

We've tried a few different brands, and Tootsie prefers these to the others, despite the fact that they don't stink as much. If she got her hands on the 1 pound bag, I'm afraid she'd eat them all! *****.
Unlike a few other sellers I've tried, this one consistently delivers fresh, large flakes free of the fish "dust" that other sellers' products contain. They arrive carefully packaged in a securely sealed and recloseable bag WITHIN A BOX, with no other items included (those of you who have received squashed items like this before will understand why I put that part in ALL CAPS!). The most amazing part is how incredibly inexpensive these are, especially considering the high quality of the product and the care taken to get it to me FAST and intact! This is the price for a full pound of these (due to their light weight, this is a HUGE bag! br>br>I should point out that I only use these as cat treats, so I can't comment on how they taste to humans, but both of my cats will tell you that they are DELICIOUS to cats:.
She has only been able to venture out and explore the world around her because of these fish flakes. She now begs for her special treat every morning as she exits my room.
For the past 6 years, I've purchased these bonito flakes on a regular basis. The majority of the flakes in the bag are ridiculously large and of excellent quality. br>br>However, every good thing has a flaw. These bags contain a lot of dust, which my cats won't eat and which has a texture that I don't like in a broth. br>br>The worst part about this item is how quickly and frequently its price changes in a single day. For instance, it dropped in price by a few dollars around 11 a. m. today, but by the time I got home at 6 p. m. , it had risen by $16. Wut? br>br>I guess my next purchase will have to wait until it's well under $30 because, despite the quality of the actual flakes, the amount of dust that comes in the bags isn't worth it.
) Always fresh, and always wrapped in bubble wrap or other protective material. Humans may find the odor peculiar, but cats can detect it from a mile away. That's how fresh it is when it arrives. I close it with a "chip clip" after giving some to my cats as a treat, and it's always just as fresh when I go back to the bag a few days or more later to give them more. My cats' coats have also changed dramatically - Since I began giving these flakes to them as a treat every few days or so, their fur and coats have become much more shiny and silky. The flakes are large, and the bag is nearly full when you receive it (which cannot be said for other brands of these flakes, let alone any chips or other items that we humans purchase at the store). My cats are obsessed with it and know the bag as soon as I pull it out of the cabinet and immediately line up meowing begging for a treat of these flakes; otherwise, they would never leave me alone for them and would probably break into the bag and help themselves (which did happen once when I didn't close the cabinet door tightly enough). They figured out how to open the cabinet door in the middle of the night, take it off the shelf, and use it that night. The next morning, I discovered quite a shambles, but that was entirely my fault for not closing the door properly the night before. ) Do your feline friends a favor and buy these for them as a treat. You'll be helping their health and coats/fur, and they'll love you for it!.
This is a treat that my cats are completely enamored with. After picking up a small container of tuna flakes on sale at the store, I introduced them to it. Until I did some research, I thought I'd never be able to afford it at full price. Bonito flakes are what you're looking at. Essentially the same thing, but for a lot less money. It may not appear to be much at first, but as you fluff them up, they expand significantly. The container I purchased had a regular price of $9. It was roughly a 4x4x4" container in size. When you buy in bulk, you get 100 times the value for your money. Every month, I place an order in my Subscribers' Area. Save.
It can only be purchased in this manner. I've discovered that it's much easier to keep the bonita fresh in multiple bags. The disadvantage is that my cats are now ignoring the inevitable crumbs at the bottom of the bowl in favor of those large fluffy flakes!.
This is something I bought for my cats, and they absolutely adore it. This is a lot less expensive than the cat-specific ones. In light of this, I paid just over $20 for this item a year ago; now it costs more than $30. I'm not sure what you're talking about. Why such a large price increase? I'm hoping it will last a long time because I can't imagine how much it will cost the next time I need something.
