Questions & Answers

What makes this flakes different from the more expensive ones? TIA! ?

I'm not sure what more expensive flakes you're referring to, but this shredded coconut doesn't seem to have much flavor, and the coconut shreds are tiny and quite hard; I use it in baking when I don't want a strong coconut flavor, and the other ingredients help soften it while it bakes. It's fine for some things, but I'd go with a different coconut for others.

Is the coconut here organic?

Because the general public has yet to discover coconut's fatty, nutty delights, it won't appear on any Clean 15 or Dirty Dozen lists any time soon. We Primals, on the other hand, enjoy coconut. We use coconut oil to sauté vegetables, sweet potatoes, hair, skin, and armpits, as well as to slather it on our hair, skin, and armpits. Coconut milk and cream are used in our drinks and curries. We're obsessed with coconut butter and use a greasy spoon to pay homage to it. And we frequently reach for the coconut water when we've been running or training particularly hard – or when it's particularly hot outside. We enjoy coconut, so it's in our best interests to figure out whether or not we should buy organic. Fortunately for us, organic coconut does not appear to make a significant difference. Pesticide residues in coconut products have been the subject of several studies, all of which have come up short. There was a study from 2008 that found no pesticide residues in crude coconut oil. Poly- Aromatic hydrocarbons, which are carcinogenic and are produced during the quick drying of coconut flesh, were found in crude coconut oil but were removed during refining. Unless it's wet-processed, virgin unrefined coconut oil may still contain these hydrocarbons. without being milled or processed in a hurry The flesh is being dried. To be clear, this is true of both organic and non-organic coconut oil. br>In another study, researchers used two different pesticide detection methods on 15 samples of coconut water and were unable to detect any of the 11 pesticides they were looking for. br>Coconut milk will be free of pesticides, just like any other coconut product, because it's made from fresh flesh rather than the dried, heat-treated variety. Coconut milk should also be free of polymers if it has been treated. hydrocarbons with an aromatic component.

Is this something that has been dehydrated?

There isn't any moisture in it. It's also not wet. There's enough moisture in the flakes to keep them from sticking together, but not too much.

Excellent quality, long shelf life, and no significant flaws
5/5

I bought this product in November 2014, when I was on a low-carb diet for a while. br>br>After misplacing two bags of this product from an Amazon shipment, I found them last week on a shelf in my basement (which is normally cool but varies depending on the season). I decided to open one of the bags to evaluate since the sell by date was October 2015 - It looked as if it had just been purchased. br>br>In terms of shredded coconut, this is a fantastic product that offers excellent value and should keep for a long time if stored properly. The coconut flakes themselves have a slight moistness and sweetness that should satisfy a variety of cravings on an Atkins / ketogenic diet, for which they are ideal due to their low net carbs and calorie content (two net carbs and 100 calories per three tablespoons). The flakes also contain a small amount of medium chain triglycerides (MCT), which can help with ketogenesis. Aside from being low carb, I'd consider this product if I ever wanted to try the paleo diet. br>br>I've been using these flakes in smoothies and baked goods since rediscovering them. They're amazing in terms of adaptability. br>br>My only reservation is that the product isn't truly organic, but that is self-evident and not a criticism. On Amazon, the closest organic equivalent I could find,.

It makes delicious coconut milk
5/5

This is a fantastic way to make coconut milk. Each of the four bags (there are four) contains about 4 cups of shredded coconut and yields more than 1/2 gallon of coconut milk. To use in my smoothies, I make the milk in 1-quart batches and keep it in a glass jug in the fridge. When I take it out of the fridge, a thick layer of wax has formed on the surface. On the surface, it appears as if coconut fat has formed. I use the tip of a knife blade to break it up and throw it in my Ninja with the rest of my ingredients. I'm looking for the coconut fat, and I like having visual proof of its presence. Coconut milk – The previous box I tried did not work, either because of the additives or because there was not enough fat in the first place. Because of the additives, I stopped buying packaged food, but I still prefer the flavor of homemade food. made-to-order items that are also significantly less expensive.

Great product; unsweetened coconut is extremely difficult to come by
4/5

That is why I place an order with Bob's for this item. This is a teeny-tiny rip - I might prefer something larger, but I don't want a sweetened product. I've attached a photo of a chocolate chip to give you an idea of the shred size; keep in mind that the coconut isn't as soft or chewy as sweetened products. br>I love it in my chia pudding and add it to my morning oatmeal. To add fiber and texture to my plain Greek yogurt, I mix some in. This way, it appears to be more filling. br>I haven't yet toasted it, but I believe it will enhance the flavor. br>I have a lot of faith in Bob's products. My only reservation is that I will have to purchase such a large quantity of it. 4 bags, to be exact! But because the price is so low, I pour the remainder of a bag into a large glass canning jar and store it in the refrigerator. So far, it hasn't gone bad. I'll just keep the remaining bags in the freezer until they're needed.

The voucher was only valid for 3 weeks after it was purchased
3/5

This item was purchased in the middle of the year. September 2021 is the deadline. I stuck it in the fridge and hadn't looked at it since. I was looking for nutritional information when I noticed the "Best By" date, which was only a few weeks after I bought it. Worse, the apparent production date was nearly a year and a half prior to my purchase. Before I bought it, the bag had been sitting for over a year. br>br>I assume that's now available on Amazon. Bob's Red Mill products have long been a favorite of mine, which is why I selected this particular item. But there appears to be a significant disconnect here: either shredded coconut is a rarely purchased item (which seems unlikely, but who knows), or the bag fell behind the warehouse shelf and was only recently discovered. After that, it was thrown into my delivery box. br>br>Perhaps this is a one-time thing. It's a rare occurrence that causes a problem. I, on the other hand, experienced it. So this bag, along with the "milk" I just made, will be thrown away, and I'll have to find another source of shredded coconut.

It's great on its own, as a topping, or in a baked good! I enjoy all of Bob's Red Mill's products, but their coconut is one that we keep on hand
