This is exactly what I was hoping for. Coconut flakes, similar to shredded coconut but larger, were what I was looking for in a snack mix. The coconut pieces are dry, but not crunchy dry, and the right size for my mix. However, 3 pounds is a significant amount. It was a lot more than I expected. Because the bags are resealable, I won't have to worry about finishing everything before it spoils. br>br>The flakes have a coconutty, slightly sweet flavor, similar to that of dried coconut. This is not the product for you if you're looking for something sweet like shredded coconut from Walmart's baking aisle.
As is, it's very tasty. When toasted with a little sea salt, I'm sure they'll be a hit. br>The following is an update to my short review from a few days ago. br>I continued to play around with this product, mixing 1 tablespoon of Agave nectar into 1 cup of chips, then seasoning them with sea salt before baking them for 10 minutes. On a parchment-lined cookie sheet, bake for 12 minutes at 300°F. It turns out to be a lovely golden brown. br>They were so good that I couldn't stop myself from eating the entire batch. They were all gone when I came to a halt.
Anna and Sarah's products are among my favorites. They are almost always delicious and fresh. These coconut flakes, on the other hand, are a different story. There was a serious flaw in the situation. As soon as I opened the bag, I knew. There was a foul odor, so I took a few from the bag and shoved them into my mouth, being the moron that I am. I spit them out as soon as I got to my kitchen sink. YUK! Thankfully, Amazon was kind enough to issue a refund to me. I'm thinking about giving it another shot; When it comes to organic products, Anna and Sarah has always been one of my top sellers. This had to be a coincidence!.
Unlike sugared coconut, it has a great flavor. I really like how there are flakes and chips in this dish. I came across a recipe for keto "oatmeal" chocolate and peanut butter cookies that didn't require any baking. The coconut is used in place of the oatmeal. They have the same flavor as my mother's no-bake oatmeal cookies. Mine are the only ones that are keto friendly! I also came across some of the most delectable "oatmeal" chocolate chip cookies. They're fantastic. You've done it again, substituting coconut for oatmeal. These are also keto-friendly, but they must be baked. When I first tried some plain Organic unsweetened flakes, I thought they were bland. Only if I chewed slowly enough, could I detect the nutty flavorful nutty flavor of pure coconut. Oh, my goodness, these flakes are fantastic in both cooking and snacking. With a healthy dose of protein. This is the second time I've ordered a three-pound order. The fact that they are available in two sizes is a plus. 5 pound bags that can be resealed My first bag is still with me. However, I go through it quickly, and my first order's first bag is nearly empty. I didn't think I needed to place another order just yet. Only on rare occasions does the Seller run out of stock. As a result, I can't afford to be without this delectable food staple. Several times during the last week of May, it came dangerously close to running out. After that, it was depleted. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to obtain any more. I don't want to run out of something so tasty and nutritious!.
People who had read some of the reviews for this product had said that it was bland and flavorless. While I understand their point of view because of the "American Diet," which includes sugar in everything, I can taste the subtle sweetness and buttery flavors of natural coconut in the soft, thin chips now that I've cut back on sugar in my own diet. br>br>Another review convinced me to buy the product: it recommended toasting the chips on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper in the oven. To make a light glaze, I mixed 1 tablespoon honey with 2 teaspoons water, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and 14 teaspoon vanilla. In a large mixing bowl, combine the mixture with about 2 cups of coconut chips, then spread it out on my silicone baking sheet. For ten minutes at 300 degrees F, I had a delicious pile of lightly sweetened, crispy heaven that was still full of the delicious and light flavor of the coconut chips after 12 minutes in the oven, stirred about halfway through. If this doesn't satisfy your sweet tooth, try adding more honey or a pinch of stevia (a little goes a long way). br>br>When I'm out, I'll be sure to place another order.
When I received the coconut flakes, I was pleased because the product appeared to be fresh and at a reasonable price. br>I planned to reorder before my current supply ran out, but the item became unavailable. I decided to look elsewhere, and I'm glad I did. In order to make coconut milk, I almost always use coconut. The coconut fat solidifies on the top of the milk as it cools and is refrigerated, so I strain it out. This is not the case with this brand; if it is RAW, where is the natural fat/oil? br>(purchased in store TJ's) My newly discovered brand produces solidified oil as it should, is white and clean, RAW with large chips, and is cheap. The brand I used to order, which came from the Phillipines, was discontinued (it also produced a sufficient amount of solidified oil). br>This Anna and Sarah was nicely packaged and smelled fresh, but I'm not a fan of the consistency of my milk, which seems "fattier" without the ability to skim it. br>I'd recommend trying the other brand if you're making coconut milk, but if you're just cooking or baking with it, this one should suffice.
These Coconut Chips were toasted in a 750 watt microwave for 5 minutes at 1 minute intervals. br>In between each minute of nuking the Coconut, I stirred the contents. br>For a 1000 Watt Microwave, I recommend 4 minutes of 1 minute intervals. br>For a 1250 Watt Microwave, I recommend 3 minute intervals at 1 minute intervals.
Unfortunately, they have been out of stock for a long time, so I decided to order the Anna and Sarah brand from Amazon. These are just as tasty as Trader Joe's, but they're even better because the chips are smaller and easier to chew. I believe those who left negative feedback were hoping for a sweet treat. These chips aren't something I'd eat on their own. I use them in my homemade baked granola and as a breakfast topping on oatmeal; they're perfect for this. I only get a hint of natural sweetness (no added sugar) and a great coconut flavor. This product has piqued my interest, and I intend to purchase it again.
