This authentic New Mexico green chile will be a treat if you're used to Ortega and other canned brands (which are mostly made with Anaheim peppers). If you're a GC connoisseur, you'll probably find this to be slightly milder (compared to the hottest NM green chile, though almost all of it is less spicy than jalapeo or serrano). Even so, it's far superior to anything canned. It's best to get a high-end freezer if you can afford it and have the space. final choice (Big Jim cultivar FTW! ) has been dropped- During the roasting season, your order will be delivered to you. For long- However, for long-term and convenient storage, this is a good choice. If you're unfamiliar with proper GC, try it on a cheeseburger, pizza, or scrambled eggs, rather than just in Mexican food. It's used on almost everything in New Mexico, except desserts.
These won't completely satisfy your cravings if you've had and miss real Hatch green chiles (or any new Mexican chile for that matter), but they'll take the edge off and get the job done, just like my nicotine mints. I'd argue that they're better for stews and other slow-cooking dishes. Cooking foods may vary depending on your circumstances. If you've never had green chile before, there's no better way to learn about it. I will continue to buy.
These are Hatch green chiles, which are well-known. They aren't as good as frozen or freshly roasted green chiles, but they are far superior to store-bought canned green chiles. They're a little pricey, so I only use them occasionally, but they're well worth it.
Hatch green chilies are now available on Amazon, which is fantastic. After years of living in New Mexico and then relocating to the east coast, I miss the culture, particularly the food. These chilies are used in a variety of dishes by me. They're delicious on hamburgers, in meat and bean chili, and in omelets. even when it comes to steaks Simply combine chopped onion with a little olive oil in a pan and sauté until golden brown, then top with grated white cheddar and serve on steaks, potatoes, or whatever you like. soo good!.
If you want HOT chilies, DO NOT purchase these.
Update: The seller offered a refund as well as an apology. The ad for these Chiles says they're Fire Roasted, but they aren't. I only bought them because they said they were Fire Roasted on the package. I'm very dissatisfied with this seller because they misrepresented the product and it's not returnable.
But NOT! It's way too costly. The "Hatch" name is being paid for. I have the impression that I have been duped.
As a transplanted New Mexican, I set out to find spicy and flavorful green chiles from New Mexico. On Amazon, I ordered several different brands of Hatch chiles. This is a huge letdown. They don't have any more flavor than store brands, and they're no hotter than store brands labeled "MILD. " " I've read in other reviews that these can vary, but all eight cans I received were tasteless. Other Hatch and New Mexico green chile brands that come in jars and are super flavorful and truly range from medium to fiery hot are available on Amazon. They're even more expensive than these mediocre chiles, but they're well worth the money.
