It took me a while to get the 7810 up and running, and much of the Owner's Manual required reading. It's been a few years since I purchased my Sony TV and Sennheiser headphones, and I'm having trouble figuring out how to connect them. The headphones only work with TV, but not DVDs, etc. The Denon model I replaced was very plug and play. Until I realized I would have to go buy a fiber optic cable for my system, I was unable to get sound through the speakers. (I later discovered this solution on In addition, the menus under the system were difficult to understand during installation. As a result, after I installed the fiber optic cable and went through the AV Setup Guide app again (which is easily downloadable), the TV is now working. There are only a few details that need to be tweaked, so now all I need to do is figure it out. In conclusion, one feature I truly appreciate is the phono connection on my turntable. This can be accessed with a button on the system remote and I like having it. It is important to remember to turn off the turn table preamp (if it has one) before turning it on if you use it as well. It was a little unnerving to see the option of "refurbished". Although the product comes in a factory-sealed box containing all the components, it is not fully assembled. If the firmware isn't up-to-date, I urge you to do so. There is a possibility that the firmware may not be up to date, even if it is refurbished.

2 Yamaha receivers in the past. One of them is still functioning fine, but the other died after 5 years. I had said I would never use Yamaha again when I was a kid because of its reliability. In the end, having used Onkyo, Pioneer, and Denon receivers for the past few years, I am thrilled to have my sound back. My experience with many of them is fairly good. Even though Denon is #2 in sound, I find it difficult to compare. I think it is a pretty good deal to get an $850 MSRP for $280 refurbished, actually it is brand new in the condition it was received. I can't think of anything I would like to complain about.
