Questions & Answers

Is there a rechargable power source included with this radio?

Unfortunately, my radio didn't come with a charging cable, but most mechanical keyboards are built so that spilling any sticky liquids can ruin them because the steel plate on which the key switches are mounted cannot be removed for cleaning. While this can result in a loss of $90 to $140 in a matter of seconds, it also results in the provision of extra parts. I sympathize with you if you or a friend has recently lost a keyboard in this manner, but if the keyboard connector is Mini-USB, You now have the ideal charging cable in the form of a USB cable. It's as simple as plugging it into a powered USB hub to turn it into an instant charger.

I'm having trouble getting the unit to play AM radio. How do you tune in to AM radio stations or scan for them? Please accept my sincere gratitude. ?

Select MW on the MW/LW button, then hold down the ETM button until it flashes to scan and store AM stations. It will scan the AM band and record any stations that are received. The rotary dial can then be used to navigate through the saved stations. By pressing the VF button, you can manually tune AM stations. For a few seconds, the screen will flash. Rotate the tuning knob while the light is flashing. The " indicates that you are now in manual tuning mode. ", which is located to the right of the display. Slow tuning is done in 1kHz increments, while fast tuning is done in 10kHz increments. A " will appear if the tuning is done quickly. > You should play around with the tuning speed a little bit. Touch the ETM button to return to the ETM and any saved stations. I hope this has been of assistance.

Would this be a good option for getting clear AM reception in Boston suburbia?

I think this will work fine in Boston, but because it doesn't come with an external antenna, you'll have to rely on the antenna and clip wire that came with it. The downside is that you'll have to move your antenna around a lot in certain areas, which can lead to the antenna coming loose. If you live in the suburbs, I'd recommend the Kaito ka1102 (my personal favorite) because not only does it have an external antenna, but it also has a built-in antenna.

What does it sound like when it's connected to good external speakers? It has distortion issues, according to something I read on the internet. For me, that is a deal breaker. Thanks?

My grandson received this as a present. He claims that the sound quality is excellent, but he was listening to it through the internal speaker. I don't see why it wouldn't be satisfactory with external speakers.br>

Selected User Reviews For TECSUN PL-380 DSP FM Stereo. MW. SW. LW. World Band PLL Radio Receiver, LCD Display, ETM Function Added

You'll get a lot of bang for your buck when it comes to radio! For 61 years, I've been a shortwave listener, 32 years as an amateur radio operator, and many years as a military communications officer
5/5

I've owned receivers since the 1920s, the majority of which I worked on and enjoyed for a long time. All of this is mentioned because it may give my review a little more weight than a review from someone who has no idea what they're talking about. On Thursday, I received the radio and put it to the test on MW, SW, and FM for several hours. The performance on FM astounded me greatly. It outperforms my Sony 2010 on FM, and keep in mind that the Sony was nearly eight times the price! Because of the mountains and hills in all four directions, I live in a terrible area for FM. The radio station you're listening to causes multipath distortion when its transmitted radio waves bounce off the mountains and hills, arriving at your radio at different times and angles. The signal from Portland, Maine, which is 65 miles away, is crystal clear on this tiny radio. My Grundig YB400 pe and Sony 2010 aren't quite up to the task. My Sangean ATS 909 Deluxe, which costs $ 289. , is the only other portable I have that can receive this station cleanly on FM. I paid $50 for modifications to the Sangean, and it was well worth it. The Tecsun costs $ 46 and is an excellent value. At this price point, the SW performance is excellent, and the variable bandwidth feature is fantastic! On MW, I know there is a station on 530 Khz that is broadcasting from Cuba, and the Tecsun was picking it up very faintly about an hour ago, which is surprising given that I live 85 miles from Canada. I placed it next to my Tecsun AN- I was able to hear it quite well thanks to the 200 MW loop antenna and the Tecsun pair, which really hauled the signal up. A word about some of the radio reviews: I've noticed that many of them lack logic. For example, there has been some criticism that this radio cannot be connected to an external antenna. Wrong! When he connects an outside antenna to his other portable models, one reviewer claims that they overload. Either shorten the antenna or take it and connect it to the whip inductively. It's a simple fix, so if you're interested, do some research on radio sites. One reviewer on YouTube said he liked the radio but that the only drawback was that it didn't receive ssb signals. What nonsense! That is not a negative statement because you wouldn't buy this radio if you wanted ssb capability. It wasn't built for ssb because it's an entertainment broadcast radio, but the engineers did an excellent job with this little gem. Oh, I did review a model airplane once, and it was a four-engine model that I adored. The only drawback was that it couldn't quite match my friend's Mitsubishi Zero in terms of maneuverability. Do you see what I'm talking about when I say it's all nonsense? This little gem blew me away, and it came with an English instruction manual and a one-year warranty. Take the batteries out of the radio and put them back in after 30 minutes or so if the radio suddenly refuses to turn on even with good batteries. In the winter, the air in colder climates can be very dry, with a lot of static. The circuitry can be locked up by a small static pulse caused by the radio being near a very small charge. You've performed a reset, which should resolve the issue. It happened to me with my 350-dollar Sony 2010, so don't blame the radio; it happens with memory-chip radios all the time. When I went to turn on my new PL 380 today, it was turned off. After a reset, I was able to pick up Cuba on 530 Khz without the Tecsun loop just a few minutes ago. Amazing for a radio that costs only 46 dollars. Yes, I believe that the audio produced by this radio is excellent and capable of filling a reasonably sized room. Have fun, read the manual, and remember to reset if something goes wrong!.

The Tecsun ® PL-100 from Kaito is yet another excellent audio product
5/5

380 . Crystal- The sound quality is excellent. •* if you're looking for a unique way to express yourself, this is the place to be Tecsun® PL- is a trademark of Tecsun Corporation. The number 380 is considered to be a very high number. AM of high quality (also known as "MW" for medium-weight) FM Shortwave Portable Radio (Wave) At around $45, this is a fantastic value proposition. 00 . The audio quality is crisp and clear. On channels broadcasting in FM Stereo, you can listen in STEREO with the included ear buds. There's also a Shortwave clip included. There's also a nice headphone jack and an antenna to clip to the built-in telescopic antenna. ETM (Easy-to-Manage) is an acronym that stands for "easy-to In AM/MW FM and Shortwave, the Tuning Method) allows for quick scanning and locking in of available channels. br>br>IMPORTANT: The importance of reading and comprehending the operator's manual cannot be overstated. which is included or can be downloaded to make it easier to read. This is something I can't stress enough. To get the most out of this radio, you need to know how it works inside and out. Allow at least an hour to read the operator's manual and comprehend it. You will not be disappointed if you follow this advice, and you will be well compensated for it.

This is an excellent radio to add to your collection or to begin one
5/5

This is a fantastic little radio. Small, compact, and sensitive, with a simple design. br>Since the 1960s, I've owned a number of portable SW radios, and this is one of my favorites. True, it doesn't have SSB, but I've been able to pick up stations from India, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, and even a BBC station aimed at Africa using my long wire antenna. br>br>AM is extremely sensitive when it comes to picking up a weak station near a much stronger one. I can pull into Cincinnati at 700 kph and not cross over from WOR in NYC at 710 kph, which I can do here in NW New Jersey. The same can be said for the 1120 and 1130 trains from St. Louis and New York, respectively. Of course, this is only possible at night, but even during the day, I can pick up some local stations that are difficult to find on other radios. br>br>While the FM is excellent, I purchased it primarily for the AM and SW frequencies. br>br>I liked it so much that I went out and bought the Tecsun PL880 with SSB and a few extra features. br>br>However, the PL- 380 is the one I listen to before going to bed. Because it is so small, I do not notice it if I roll over on top of it.
