Questions & Answers

What if you throw a hard bolt of LIGHTNING at it?

I would like to ask you a question. Are you able to be more trivial and asinine? There is no electronic device which can withstand the impact of a good hard bolt of lightning,

Would you like to know how the sound and bass are? Do you think it would be good for a small party in your backyard?

The detailed review of this outstanding piece of equipment can be read in my post from Regarding sound and bass performance, I would like to make the following comments I believe the Fatbox has one of the greatest audio performances I have heard from a device of its size. It is comparable to the Bose Wave radio in performance. It's tough for me to make ends meet A fan on the end of the pipe The Fatbox is not equipped with a subwoofer, therefore I was concerned that it might not perform properly. Other reviewers have been correct, however. The Fatbox has stellar low-noise performance. With or without its 'Loudness' function, it will still deliver a high-end performance. Although I hit the volume button at low volume, I found the bass to be a bit distorted after the loudness was increased. Near the Fatbox's maximum volume, however, the Loudness function makes a slight improvement in low-frequency performance In my opinion, it is a matter of end performance.

Can you tell me if the 2 metal pieces above & below the display (shown in one of the customer images) are there for protection? Thank you. ?

Hopefully what I explain is what you mean by the metal pieces. A sturdy metal support bar runs across the top of the radio and along the front portion of it in order to keep it from falling. I really enjoy this radio, it is very structurally sound.

A little help here would be appreciated by an old geezer. Is it useful to be able to plug in an iPhone? Can I charge it just like that?

In 9th grade, I was Whenever he uses his phone, he keeps all his favorite songs in it. For him, it is important to be able to listen to his phone's music on an external speaker like this.

A perfect choice for the price, size, and weight of this radio
4/5

The U3 is heavier than this radio, weighs more than 10 pounds (I don't want to carry that extra weight up a ladder), and is about $30 more expensive (at Despite the shortcomings of this radio, it's a very good radio indeed. This is the antennae. The reason for this is as follows. There are many reviews that complain that the sound distorts above 75% of the maximum That's not the case. It is the second time I have owned one of these radios. When the powerful AM talk station I listen to on low volume - one of the hottest (meaning it has the strongest signal) - was crackling, I returned the first one immediately. It was a bad speaker for me. He sounded like he had been blown away. I have replaced my TB There was no difference in sound between 100 and 101. Since I doubt I would get 2 factory duds in a row, I played with the radio for a while. Tuning the radio to a hot FM station that I know comes in five-times-five, I tuned the station. My ears did not pick up crackles or pops. I still got distortion at volumes over 50% to 75% even when the battery was charged. As soon as I had the radio plugged into AC power, I could crank the volume 100 percent full blast without any As you can see, it's quite a power hog for C batteries with a 5 watt speaker. I would expect Sangean's engineers designed the radio to run on D-cell batteries, or perhaps a large 6 volt battery (but then it would be much However, people have been perceiving the antennas in this radio as having too small size, which results in a less-than-ideal reception in this radio, rather than a bad speaker or a mismatched speaker-amp combo. What is the height of the FM antenna outside the vehicle? This is absurd! Sangean's antenna is flexible and rubber coated, and the device is about 12 inches wide, so there is no reason they couldn't fit a flexible 12 inch antenna in the box. I had a cheap Sony desk radio with a large antenna (17 inches). There should have been an FM antenna on this device - 12 inches In that timeframe. It has an internal ferrite AM antenna measuring only 3 inches in length. HOW many inches do you have? Are you serious? I'm calling on you, A general rule of thumb would be to put in the longest ferrite antenna you can fit in your radio cabinet when constructing the radio. GE Superradio III did you know about this venerable model? There is a famous AM reception there. Nearly 8 inches are needed to fit the ferrite antenna into the unit! Antennes are sized differently according to their size. In my opinion, Sangean should have installed a longer ferrite. As long as possible, if possible. In any case, I'm a pretty critical and picky individual when it comes to my radio gear. I'm a former radio DJ, former CB'er, and an overall radio enthusiast. It is to its credit that this radio, even with three inch ferrite, picked up AM stations 141 miles away while indoors, under a 150 watt halogen light, during the DAY (AM reception is usually better at night on every AM radio). A very thick, sturdy plastic is used for the construction of this radio, which weighs about 7lbs. If you have the right materials, you can knock the antlers off a moose and listen to your favorite song at the same time. For a few seconds, the display is backlit and a large, easy-to-read display is provided. There is the option to adjust the tuning steps to adhere either to the European or To the USA It has been pointed out that some people are not happy with My personal opinion is that the tone is good. I have tested it on a wide variety of The following categories can be found in music jazz, contemporary Christian, alternative rock, bluegrass, 80's pop, and All of them sound good to me. There's no too much bass in this song For Talk, this could be heavy. This is a full and rich sound, but it is clear as well. In order to test my iTunes library, I connected the Aux input. As long as I used the iPhone Settings for Music app, I was able to select one of the EQ presets and adjust the tone of the music. My general rule is that I find Acoustic and Jazz to be the two settings that work best for most varieties. low-end level for this cabinet stands out a bit more than the high-end level The mid-range is much better if you lower the EQ so that those frequencies are lowered. Sangean includes crappy antennas with this radio, which is disappointing to me. I do recommend this radio, though I am generally pleased with it. There were better things they could have done. The warranty expires in a few months, so I may decide to crack it open and replace the antenna. The size of the room should be increased. The inventive or handy can borrow a whip antenna (from a car or old CB radio set), cut it to the appropriate length, attach it to a threaded female portion of an appropriate size for the antenna port, and make themselves a longer FM antenna for this purpose. What a boy! It would be well-suited to use a 2 or 3 foot whip on this to pull in the FM. While I complain about the antennas and reception, many others appear to be happy with them, so the problem isn't severe enough to cause the radio to malfunction. I like the way it works. As far as my radio goes, I'm a bit picky. Despite a few small antennas, it's a good, sturdy radio for outdoor use. This is what you need!.

Despite its ruggedness, this radio is very useful
5/5

but rugged boat is perfect for exploring Adding this radio to your garage or workshop will make it look great. This radio has also been designed to withstand rain, dust, and shock, so you can use it outdoors in the backyard, at a job site, or even on a beach outing. From a single 5-star rating, the sound is pretty good The speaker is 14" in diameter. Radio stations listen well on FM, but a few radio stations on AM are more problematic Maybe it just has to do with where I am. The Bluetooth system works like a charm and is easy to set up. Among the nice, useful features are the carrying handle on top, the cage frame design, the big backlit LCD display, the big knobs on top for volume control and changing radio stations, the preset radio station buttons on the Auxiliary inputs and outputs are also present If you want to add an outside source of music, you can plug it in. You can run this radio with the AC power plug that comes with it, or with the standard "C" adapter You need to use the right size of There are regular alkaline Duracell "C" batteries, but you can also use rechargeable "C" batteries, since the radio has a charger that will recharge That is a lot of good information and just wanted to offer it to you. We are very happy with the.

After 2 days of working, the program was stopped
3/5

Until it died, it had been running for about 4 hours. I read the instructions that came with the radio when it arrived. Plugging the charger into household current, I inserted four rechargeable batteries, turned the switch to charge them, and plugged the charger in. In addition to the LED lighting brightly when the batteries were charging, the battery cells started charging as well. Even though the batteries were not being used, we ran the radio for two days on house current and the battery charge LED started flashing. When that happened, the radio ceased to function. The sounds on the bands are completely silent. We removed the batteries, switched out new batteries, and used just house current, but it didn't work. This was purchased primarily to take advantage of the on-board charging capabilities when plugged into a 110V power outlet. I should have listened to the reviews about the unit failing after a couple of days. We could not return for a new one unless we put a credit card number on file.

The bass is heavy and the sound is good! A compact radio with all the features you'd want is on the whole a decent radio, but not perfect
4/5

Despite the single large speaker's bass heavy sound, the sound is fairly subdued. There's a bit of washed-out color in the mids and highs. Although this isn't major, it shouldn't be dealt with too seriously. When you are in a loud environment, the speakers will seem quiet, so you need to amplify them. My working environment is very busy and loud, so you should take my words with a grain of salt.

I also appreciated the digital tuner, which picks up digital signals for greater clarity. Also, it has static mitigation so when you'd otherwise get blasted with white noise, the volume will be lower. A total of 5 presets per band (1 FM, 1 AM) are available. This might leave you with a bit of a void. I use Bluetooth to listen to music on my iPhone and it is always connected to my iPhone. Roll cage should help it survive a drop. Build quality is good, and it is probably drop-proof. Although, due to its plastic construction, it might not last long if it's tossed into a truck on a regular basis. The water-resistant material is also great for the pool, but keep it out of the water. Splash proof is all it is. Even a rainstorm would probably not harm it. This is a great feature the built-in battery charges the device while it is in use. Pick up a few Ni-MH batteries and recharge yourself The Honourable Mr C If you pick this radio up, you will need to provide a cell battery. It appears that the only downside is that it won't charge the batteries unless the radio is turned You can, therefore, find that it can be a bit of a hassle if you do not intend to leave the radio plugged in and running when you are not With its price tag and the use of Bluetooth, this stereo is a good choice for those interested in the technology, but not everyone can afford it. The radio is neither the most rugged nor the loudest nor does it have the best reception.
