Sangean does say JIS4 on their site. However, JIS4 is not really a water standard in the sense that it deals with drinking water. It is not a proof standard, but a watermark Were resistant to. My dear Catie, I am in love with the remake, what a sweet romance My only complaint is the reception , it can be horrible at times, however, being digital it cannot be easily turned , BUT you can use an electric , phone or whatever electronic you have , although I do not have any of that rubbish , just my AM/FM radio . It does not have FM, but for the coolness and durability of the radio, it is worth every penny, but it does need a bigger antenna, you can get one at Radio Shack.
However, while the product is rugged and resistant to the elements, it is not waterproof. Should it even come in contact with water, it might not function properly. There is an AC power option, so it cannot be used in serious wet conditions. This is a battery radio, but it can also operate on AC power.

The rating has been changed from 3 stars to 2 stars but I'd rate it as a 2 and a half. Having never used this radio, I'm not sure why it has such high ratings. I am not happy with the sound quality. Sound and bass in general are bad when there is too much. It is not something you can turn up on a jobsite, nor would you want to. I would be embarrassed to use it on one. Even though it plays loud enough, it still sounds too quiet. Due to its small size and single speaker, it is not able to put out much volume. In an attempt to overcome the poor reception, I had an antenna set up and a coaxial cable professionally installed after getting it in an attempt to rectify the situation, but it was not nearly as effective Although by now I am certain it isn't a good antenna, I would have returned it if I were aware that it would not receive good reception. However, after altering it, I cannot. Because it is the only reason I am doing this, I hope this update will add to the arguments for a different direction. That's what I mean by trying to help the consumer.
In spite of our high expectations, we were disappointed when we used this radio in our barn. Despite having local stations, the reception was terrible. A very old clock radio provided better reception and sound in the past. Unfortunately, it did not live to tell the tale. It didn't work. We tried moving the radio to different parts of our barn, trying to find a station (half of the barn is a metal pole structure, the other half is wood), but the reception just kept failing. It did not work for us. Taking the radio outside was the only way we got a reception, and the quality of the sound was poor.
