This Insten replacement battery is designed to fit and work in an iPod Video 5G 80GB (2006 Edition). Because there are no instructions included with the kit, it is highly recommended that you watch some YouTube videos on how to open and replace the battery. Once you've opened the iPod (which is a delicate task, as the plastic pry tools that come with the kit become mangled and break quickly), you'll notice that the replacement battery is the same size and shape as the original, and the ribbon cable is about the same length - That was fantastic news. Make sure the new battery's ribbon cable is bent in the same way as the old one, and pay close attention to where it goes in the unit. In my case, the only way to get the battery in the right place was to install it with the label facing down. Otherwise, the cable may not reach the power connector when the iPod is closed. The battery should provide just enough charge to start the unit after you've finished installing it. I charged the iPod to full capacity, set it to sleep mode, and unplugged it for the night. The next morning I checked the battery level and it remained 100%, so the new battery seems to hold the charge just fine.



It's the opening of the iPod that's the most difficult part. The battery can be replaced in less than 5 minutes once it is opened. Because of the poor quality of the pry tools (I needed a small screwdriver to complete the task), I'm deducting one star from my rating, but otherwise, I'm very pleased with the results - my 10- The iPod, which has been dormant for over a year, has been resurrected.

I've had my iPod video for quite some time, having purchased it used for very little money about 5 or 6 years ago. I have an iPhone, but when I'm not at work, I'd like to be able to listen to music without being interrupted by push notifications. This battery came with a ZIF to Compact Flash adapter, which I purchased separately. I had a 32GB compact flash card that I wasn't using, so I used it to do what so many other music geeks have done: I converted my old iPod to use the Compact Flash card instead of a fragile hard drive. My iPod's original hard drive still worked fine after all these years of heavy use, but the CF setup makes the whole iPod feel faster. It also consumes less energy; this battery can play music for about 9 to 10 hours. I tested the battery for a few days with the hard drive still in place, and a full charge gave me about 7 hours of music. br>br>I also purchased a line out dock for my iPod as well as a headphone amplifier, allowing me to easily drive my high-impedance headphones. br>br>If you don't use the opening tools correctly, they're useless. If you look at them the wrong way, they'll fall apart. Instead, I recommend opening your iPod with some Tortex guitar picks. I've had a lot of luck with the 0. 60mm ones, to be precise. br>br>Overall, this battery is great if your 30GB iPod Video doesn't hold a charge or needs to be recharged every few hours. Installation is simple, and there are numerous resources for repairing and customizing iPod Videos and Classics available online. It's a shame that Apple's products aren't all as repairable. Now all I have to do is replace the front face and the clickwheel, and my iPod will be as good as new!.

This battery appears to be in good working order so far, and it arrived promptly - Although the wire lead is possibly a little shorter, it appears to be very similar to the original. Because this didn't come with instructions, I watched a YouTube video on how to install it. It does, however, come with some handy little prying tools. It took five minutes to complete. To open my iPod, it took me ten minutes. Although the tools provided aren't particularly sturdy, they were sufficient for opening my iPod case. Now for a word of warning. br>br>I'm writing primarily to alert others to the fact that my original battery was firmly glued in place. It was glued onto and on top of the ribbon wire that controls the hold function, and prying it loose took a lot of effort. As I began the procedure, this wire was not clearly visible from the top, and it snapped during the battery extrication, rendering the hold function useless. That isn't a big deal for me because I don't use hold very often. I'd like to caution others that the flimsy ribbon may be tacked down behind your original battery, and that damaging it during this procedure is a possibility. I should have thought of using heat to loosen the glue, but I didn't think of it at the time. br>br>I'm happy with my purchase overall, and I'm looking forward to having more than 30 minutes of battery life!.

I have an old iPod 5th generation video 60 GB with a battery that was starting to fail. I don't blame it for needing a replacement given that it's about 12 years old. I read a few reviews and was hesitant to buy one of the batteries after reading them. But, given Amazon's low prices, I figured it was worth the gamble. So, I replaced the battery, and the iPod booted up and displayed a charge of about 3/4. I plugged it into my old iPOD charger, and it was fully charged in under an hour. Now I'm going to put it to the test to see if it lasts as long as the original battery. If I don't post an update, consider this replacement to be sufficient. I don't expect it to be identical to the original, but as long as I can use the iPod for six hours between charges, I'll be happy. I'll be very happy if it takes 8 hours. br>br>They include a very inexpensive tool. As expected, one of the tips broke off, so I used a jeweler's screw driver to repair it. Take your time and don't force anything; I scratched and nicked the case trying to open it. Start at the bottom, where the charge plugs in, and work your way around each side; there are plenty of videos on the internet to watch if you want to learn more. The battery is simple to replace.
