Questions & Answers

Is there any information or special routes for hazmat loads on the Rand Mac TND 720?

Yes, haz mat routing is available in the settings. There is a figure to specify the vehicle type, haz mat weight, and length.

Will it tell me which roads and bridge heights are best for trucks?

Yes. It will provide truck routes, and one of the best features of this GPS is that you can program warnings for bridge heights, weigh stations, sharp curves, and off-road routes, among other things. You can program it to route you around short bridges and weigh stations, and you can set the warnings from a distance of 1/10th of a mile and up. You can also program it to avoid certain bridges if they're too short, as well as set custom heights that you don't want to cross, which is useful if you're transporting a large load.

Will this tell me which commercial roads I need to take in order to use commercial license plates?

Yes, it specifies which roads your truck is permitted to travel on. You can change it from a car to a truck or the other way around. You have complete control over the alerts you receive and how they are configured. However, the answer to your question is a resounding yes. It calculates the best route for you without taking you on roads or bridges that trucks are unable to cross. But, just to be safe, I always double-check my routes. I hope this has been of assistance.

Is there a mount included with this item?

Mrs Dixon, how are you today? Yes, it comes with a mount, but the mount for this 7 inch screen model does not work at all because it is too heavy and does not hold it on the windshield at all, so when I tried to use this Rand Mcnally, I bought velcro tape, which has a sticky side that you mount to your dash and then velcro on the other side to hold the device down, however I am still currently using my Garmin because I am a regional truck driver and know most of my routes, but

Very good product! To begin, I am a die-hard Garmin fanatic who owns five of them, two of which are for large trucks
4/5

This product is a dream come true when compared to my Garmin 465t and 560 dezl; it has much more accurate maps, speed limits that are far more accurate, road restrictions that are spot on, routing that is far superior to either Garmin, and truck services information (poi's) that are accurate and simple to use. The device is a little more difficult to use than the 560, and the graphics aren't as flashy, but it makes up for it in accuracy and features like fast routing, poi's, Tell Rand, and wifi. br>Corrections are simple to make on the device and can be reviewed on your PC before sending them to Rand; poi's have a personal rating and a community rating to make trip planning easier; and customer service far exceeds that of Garmin. br>Overall, I'm happy with this product and would recommend it to other OTR drivers; I haven't found anything I don't like about it yet, except that I'd like to see a little more information in the POI's, such as the number of parking spaces, showers, DEF at the pump or not, and restaurant names if one is available. br>Thank you, I'm very impressed!.

Mine was from a few years ago, and it wasn't particularly thorough or reliable
3/5

Their maps seemed to be out of date all of the time. I went through several memory cards because the unit kept crashing. The memory cards would automatically back out, causing the unit to be unaware of their presence. After about 2 years of trying to update it, I gave up. Updates required me to call their tech support, which was knowledgeable and friendly, but my unit was needed on the road, not at home. I'm still behind the wheel of a semi, but I'm losing faith in this vehicle. I believe I've already discarded it in the recycling bin.

Upgrade is fantastic
5/5

When I upgraded my husband's GPS from the 400 series that he had been using for three years (I forget which 400 series it was), he was taken aback. It was significantly larger than the previous one, and he adored it! The power button is on top, which is far superior to the previous one, which was on the bottom left. As a night driver, he was taken aback by the night settings. br> His favorite feature is the Bread Crumb feature, which allows him to mark off-road trails, which is useful because he works in the oil fields, where there is a lot of off-road driving with bad directions from dispatch, so this helps him save time and avoid getting lost. br> The power button is customizable, and the one thing he uses it for is one push and it saves your current location. It's also very useful to be able to group or categorize destinations. This is an excellent purchase! Rand McNally has done it again with a fantastic product!.

I'm sick of trying to follow a top-of-the-line gps that couldn't find its way out of a paper bag on a regular basis
3/5

I went all out and bought the best, only to be disappointed yet again. Despite the fact that you set the height, length, and weights, as well as the types of roads to avoid, this thing gets lost and directs you into developments. br>On the plus side (which isn't outweighed by the drawbacks - I'm returning it. ) The screen size, graphics, and audio are all appealing to me. The mount is of the highest quality. The keyboard frequently refuses to let you type in the address you want; instead, it auto-inserts addresses that are frequently incorrect. Over the course of a long weekend, I drive a couple thousand miles in an entertainer coach. I require a unit on which I can rely. For me, this is not the end.

Perfect
5/5

I'm a trucker, and it has a nice big display, and the mount that comes with it is very secure. You have complete control over when you want to be notified and how you want to be notified. If you want to use it while driving in a car, you can switch it from truck to car mode. If you're a lease or owner operator, there's a screen where you can log all of your trips and fuel costs, and it'll tell you how much it'll cost you to get from point A to point B. br>The weather is also very nice, but you'll need to be connected to wifi as well as the traffic option to take advantage of it. This trucker GPS is fantastic in general. I would strongly advise any truck driver to purchase this GPS.

Although it is not heat resistant, it has a lot of utility
3/5

I like it because it catches satellite very well and is very nice in general. However, if left out in the sun on the dashboard, it will quickly perish. When I had days off at home in Tennessee in June, I kiled two units by leaving it on in a truck in the sun with the windows rolled up. If you go home, I believe the trick is to turn off your GPS - When it gets too hot, it explodes: (As a result, keep the temperature below 110 degrees Fahrenheit or turn off the unit. ).

This GPS is most likely best for OTR Truck Drivers, but it is not suitable for
3/5

This GPS is probably best for a long-haul truck driver, but it isn't suitable for a passenger vehicle driver. AT ALL TIMES, D CITY DRIVER. The first time I used it, it led me to a dead end, from which I had to back out 1/4 mile because the streets were not in good condition. It is out of date, and it lacks up-to-date construction data. This device has put me in some really bad situations, such as pulling double trailers into residential areas and breaking my set to turn around. This has happened twice: the first time was on a snowy day, and the second time was on a rainy day. Once on a crowded street, and once at night on a dark dirt road. It doesn't have its own battery and needs to be plugged in all of the time. When the power cord broke, I had no choice but to stop using it. together. Since then, I've had no problems using my phone's GPS.

Fair, but a tad underwhelming
3/5

In 2011, I had the TND710. It appealed to me more. When multiple highways merge into one, this one becomes very confused. I just need to tell you to stay on whatever highway you want to stay on instead of staying to the right on another road and then back to the right on this road because it is trying to keep you on that highway by forcing you to switch lanes for no reason. They should also get rid of log timers. I keep my own logs, and many trucks now come equipped with E-ZPass. We don't need another "Big Brother" to keep an eye on me because of the logs. br>Another flaw is that they claim you can get live traffic and weather. Yes, for a fee, and you must be connected to the internet via Wifi. Garmin GPS comes with traffic for free and requires no internet connection. br>I like how small it is and how simple it is to use it to locate POEs. In general, it's satisfactory.
