I took this unit and threw it out the window of my truck because it is the biggest POS ever seen. The ride took me on an 11 in New Jersey. The U-shaped route of 5 miles There was no need to turn when this was unnecessary. Adding insult to injury, the driver took me two hours up north when I didn't need to go that way. Updated the maps after spending numerous hours trying to figure out what to do. The most frustrating thing about this device is that when you need to make the turn or bear left or right, it tells you to do so right away. The directions are not very clear and are merely dictation of where you ought to go. Over the past two years, I have owned a large I and have used this piece of junk. The company I used to install the unit in my Mercedes sprinter 2500 series vans did installations all over. The five of them are now available on eBay, and the sixth one is coming soon. Those who are now on the road belong there.
When I went to update the map, I was disappointed to see that no new maps were available. A support representative stated there was an issue with the trucking line maps from 2014, and that updates should be available once the 2015 maps are released. The rest of it is great. With the link to my Android, I have access to weather information as well as RADAR on the go. The vehicle interface was also delivered to me. However, there is a disadvantage to the vehicle interface, such as you must use the automotive mode rather than RV or Truck, which will cost you many of the settings and notifications related to weight, size, etc. Having a large display, it shows so much more than my Nuvi, I can see far off in the distance. The only thing I wish Garmin would concern themselves more with is making maps work and making the vehicle interface work with any vehicle.
Its only limitation is its inability to do certain things. With over 2 million miles under my belt, I've been a professional truck driver for over 10 years. I am using my 3rd Garmin product for the first time and for the first time using the truck specific version. There are a lot of features on this unit that are very It is very useful to have weather radar, live traffic, and voice command. Navigating is the only thing it cannot do. It will take you off of the interstate and down some downtown truck routes then put you back where you came from. It will find ways to go that make absolutely no logical sense on its way to the shipper from the interstate. In the program, I programmed a hazmat load and it wanted me to route me through downtown Dallas. I was warned that I-70 would be affected by the blizzard out of Lincoln, NE Route 80 does not allow gross vehicle weights over 40 tons and has wanted to take me through county roads instead. Those who are new to truck driving should stay away from this unit as it can Thankfully, I have a GPS system that is powered by TOM TOM in my car. This tool does about 95% of the time what you expect it to and it isn't even truck-specific.
As an adjunct to these other resources, it is a useful tool. The program will give you the choice to accept responsibility and proceed, if a particular route is reported as being restricted to trucks you know not to be on it. In case you are unsure of the direction you want to take, use one of the above mentioned resources. If you use the GPS, it will provide you with routing information that is only as accurate as the information provided by the state department of transportation. Those of you who have driven a truck for any length of time know how accurate (or not) some of that information Since I was a teenager, I've been driving trucks off and on for about 32 years. After 12 years of local and regional driving, I have just recently begun heading "over the road" again and have found that there are some new tools to make it In my research, I concluded that the Garmin Dezl 760 is the best option. For my purposes, this is a very good GPS. It is my job to drive a golf car for a company that supplies major golf car manufacturers. Our services are offered to country clubs, resorts, golf courses, and auto dealerships across the United States. The places are some of the most exclusive and remote in the world. Recently, I delivered a load of new golf cars to a resort community in Rociada, New Mexico. This city is not included in the Rand McNally motor carriers atlas for 2014. The Dezl 760LMT brought me to the airport, including about three hours' worth of fuel It was smooth sailing on 1 and a half miles of gravel roads. I cannot begin to name all of the features you'll find in this device. It's great that you can get free map updates and live traffic info. There are a few features that no one It is a great thing to have a 7" screen with split-screen mode, as well as accurate pictorial representations of upcoming intersection lanes. There is a truck profile option for which you can change the truck weight, length, and height You can specify the height of the unit, and the unit will project the most direct route. The ability to handle oversize loads is obviously the most valuable. * Bluetooth connection for phones In addition to complying with the hands-free requirement for all states, this feature also meets the requirement for states that do not require head sets. You should consider the optional external microphone if your device is more than 2 1/2 feet from your face. If your device is mounted more than 2 1/2 feet from your face, your party may not be able to hear you. The voice command feature allows you to program destinations and uses other features without using An external mic might be useful since it uses the bluetooth system. * Driver profile 5) This will keep your log book updated electronically. The units system has not been accepted by the Department of Transportation The paper logs I use at work are still loose leaf paper logs, which is fine with There are speed zones in the city An advance warning of 5 mi is given prior to a change in the speed limit. A weight station Prior to the arrival of a weight or crmv inspection station, 5 mi warning is given. * State lines or border crossings There is a warning of 5 miles to state lines Construction delays may be warned by as much as 30 miles. Due to the fact that I do not subscribe to the traffic subscription, all I get are the construction sites reported by the state. As much as 30 mi or more warning of live traffic backups, during which the construction delay is unreported. Added to that An investigation of a trucking company I saved more than $100 by buying a "factory refurbished" unit on Amazon.
It has everything I need, including weigh stations, rest areas, truck stops who's name I know (by name) and parking areas. The product came with a brand-new warranty and I could not tell it from a new one. I find this unit to be extremely useful and a great investment. The system is recommended to anyone who requires a GPS system for his or her large or heavy vehicle.
A GPS device we saw in one of our friends' cars led us to order it. As a result, they put it in their car while staying at their destination in place of the RV. Besides having an RV, we also have a smaller Garmin that we had been using, but after seeing how easy this is to read, we decided we also needed one of these! The device also has voice activated functionality, which we thought was useful, and knowing that it was a Garmin, it would be something we were already familiar with. This GPS is very good and I highly recommend it! As an added bonus, you can use it outside to wash your car or truck, too!.
The software leaves something to be desired. Whenever it sends me to places trucks ought not to go, it sends me to empty spots. The app also adds a route to my route then warns me if trucks can't go that way. If you don't have an alternate route, it won't offer you one. What is that, and why is it happening? spent a lot of cash on this thing, and it wasn't able to carry me where I wanted In addition, no Garmin will send you along the most direct path. This is the shortest road and turn sequence. Unless you have a GPS, this may seem out of the way, but if it is the way you would give directions to someone who has no idea where they are going, why can't a gps do this? It does not satisfy me in the slightest.
