Questions & Answers

Is this the most recent version of the product? And how does this compare to DSM350?

They appear to be the same module, in my opinion. Viper (yellow box) markets and packages the VSM350, while Directed Electronics (white box) markets and packages the DSM350. Viper is represented by the letter V, while Directed is represented by the letter D. My theory is as follows:

Is this starter compatible with the Mercedes Sprinter 2016?

It will fit ANY VEHICLE you want to use it on.

What makes the vsm350 different from the vsm250?

right, but we've all been rerouted to T- Believe it or not, you can use your mobile phone without any problems. It's a huge improvement over the previous one. I can use my phone app to locate and start my car in the garage of my building, where I live with at least one other person. The odds were 50/50.

Is it possible to use this with the Viper 5305V?

Yes, all viper/avital Remote Start/ Remote Start alarm systems are compatible.

VIPER REFUSED TO ABIDE BY THEIR WARRANTY! The system worked fine for a month before losing connection to the cellular service; I even tested it with a new unit, which connected without issue
3/5

I sent the unit to Viper, who returned it, claiming that the warranty would not be honored because it was purchased on Amazon. VIPER WAS UNWILLING TO HONOR THEIR WARRANTY!.

Installed on model 5706v and works flawlessly
4/5

br>br>If you have a data port, it's simple to install. br>The GPS function is about as accurate as my phone's. br>Has a boundary feature if you want to go out of town, but it only goes 1 mile. br>When it was installed on my alarm, it messed up the settings, so you have to reprogram it. It's not a big deal, but it can be inconvenient if you add the smartstart later. br>The time it takes for a call to connect appears to be random. Sometimes it takes less than a minute, and other times it takes much longer. It doesn't tell you what the trigger was when it does notify you. It only went off, that's all. I wish it would make an automated call out in addition to the app alert, but that may be too much to ask for for the price. br>br>On the whole, it's not bad. It appears to be in good working order, with no major issues, and it is well worth the price and subscription. 12/7/2017 - br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br update- br>Up to this point, the product has performed as expected. Since I got it, it's been extremely beneficial to me. I've locked my keys in the truck a few times. br>br> Another time, I was fishing and accidentally dropped my key in the water. Although I was able to locate my key, the FOB had become waterlogged and was no longer operational. My alarm could be disarmed using my phone. Which is great because disarming the alarm with your key is inconvenient if you've set up your alarm correctly. You won't have to worry about messing up the code if you leave it at default, but anyone who knows about alarms will recognize it. Not related to the GPS module, but the lcd key fob still works perfectly fine after being submerged in saltwater and dried out. br>br>Just something to keep in mind. Metal surfaces and certain types of window films can interfere with the GPS/CELL signal, so keep that in mind when installing this unit. Your cell phone is subject to the same rule. As a result, don't attach the module to any metal surfaces when installing it. Install this as high as possible and as far away from the fire wall as possible when mounting it under your dash. You're probably wondering how window film could cause signal interference. Metal flakes, which are used to deflect heat and light, are found in most high-quality/high-end window films. Because metal can interfere with cell/gps signals, it's no surprise that certain films can be problematic. 3m crystalline is the only high-end window film I'm aware of that doesn't contain metal flakes. br>br>But that's beside the point. Make sure the unit is mounted beneath the dash when installing it. as far away as possible from the firewall as high as possible without being seen, and directly beneath the front windshield (Film with metal flakes is not found in most front windshields. ) As a result, there will be less interference.

UPDATE 03/18/2017 Hans from Viper got back to me and explained that per their terms of service, they pre-authorize everyone's credit card in order to avoid service interruption
3/5

That does not appeal to me as a pre-existing condition. It's a bit excessive to cancel a card a month ahead of time. Of course, none of this addresses the inability to directly contact a customer service representative or cancel through your app's interface. I'm pretty sure these are all shady tactics to keep customers paying and staying with them. Normally, I ignore reviews that aren't verified purchases, but because Viper does not honor any warranties when their system is sold and fulfilled by Amazon, I believe it is critical that everyone reads all of the reviews. br>br>So, here's what I've learned about the Smart Start system. I purchased this system for a new Jeep Wrangler about a year ago, thinking it would be fantastic! I bought it from a local authorized retailer and had it installed for me. First, I noticed that if there is any obstruction between my vehicle and the sky, the app's automatic start feature would not work. Furthermore, if there was no obstruction but a heavy overcast sky, the app would not start. On rare occasions, even if the weather was perfect and there was no obstruction, my car would not receive the start signal from the app. I suppose it got lost in the void of signal? I park my car at work in a garage so 70% of the time the app was useless for my purposes due to the absence of a direct line of sight to the sky due to br>br>As far as real-time tracking is concerned, it is "real-time," as my car will frequently be found sitting at my house hours after I have left for work. It will sometimes update and display the current location, and other times it will not. Basically, I'd say the application and systems in place aren't ready for prime time, and they don't appear to be improving in that regard, at least not in the year I've had the service, with the exception of changing the app's appearance. br>br>Now for my main gripe, which I believe everyone should be aware of. I paid $99. 00 for a year's worth of service a year ago. 99 ($105. After taxes, the price is $99). One would assume that you would be billed another $105 a year later to the day (or possibly a few days earlier). For the following year, I'm going to aim for a score of 99. Viper and its parent company, Directed Electronics, do not operate in this manner. They deducted $105 from my credit card. My subscription is about to expire in less than 30 days. While they falsely advertise $99 for a year, it is actually $99 for 11 months of service. What's worse, Viper/Directed Electronics is one of those companies that makes it nearly impossible to cancel your service or speak with someone about unauthorized charges (i. e. (such as the one I'm currently dealing with). In your account settings, the only option is to renew your subscription. There is no way to stop or cancel auto renewal. When you call their corporate offices, you will also be unable to speak with anyone at all. Even if you select the option to speak to the receptionist, no one ever answers their phone or returns your call. br>br>It wasn't until I googled "Viper Smart Start Can't Cancel Service" that I came across a Facebook conversation between a customer in a similar situation and a Viper representative who was told to e-mail the customer. mail is the device's AIR ID number, and they should send a cancellation request to a generic email address. I was already turned off by the service due to poor performance, but the billing situation solidified why I am canceling and have no plans to return. I'm basically going to give them 48 hours to reverse the charge or I'm going to file an unauthorized charges complaint with my credit card company to get it reversed. In case AMEX requires proof, I have printed and saved last year's and this year's receipts, which show the deception in billing me a month early. br>br>The moral of the story is to be wary of unreliable service, unethical billing practices, and a lack of customer service support.

When the movie was over, my wife and I simply used our smart watches to start our car! We took 9 minutes to get to the car, and the heat was already on!.
