Questions & Answers

How simple is it to use?

The Garmin 2557 is a simple device to use. It's a lot less difficult than using my old 740. You simply turn it on and say "voice command," and it will ask you what you want to do, with several options on the screen to choose from, such as "find city." You then say "find city," and it will ask you what city you want to go to, and you tell it. It will then find it and ask if you want to begin navigation, which you say yes to, and you're on your way. To find an address, say "find address," and it will say "speak an address." You tell it the address, the city, and the state, and it will ask "do you want to start navigation?" most of the time. "You say yes, and then you walk away." If you don't speak clearly or consistently, it may ask "did you say," and if you didn't, you simply say no and start over. It also lists several places on the screen where you can see what you said and simply tap it with your finger to enter it. Since I've had it, I've never had to type anything into it, and I've taken it on two out-of-state trips. It's all been voice-activated so far, and it doesn't need to learn your voice to work; it'll work just as well with other people.

Is it possible to plan a route to avoid passing through an area (such as New York City) that you know you don't want to visit?

In my experience, you must set a via point for the GPS to route in the desired direction. Consider the following scenario. From central Kentucky to northern Wisconsin, I travel.br> The GPS will direct me through Chicago, including all toll roads and traffic jams. So, after entering my WI destination, I set a via point in Normal, IL. If you want to add it to the active route, the GPS will ask if it's a new destination. When you select "active route," you will be able to choose where it will travel in the line-up. As a result, if you want to, you can create multiple via points.

When the Garmin 2557 is not connected to "power," how long does it stay charged?

After you've fully charged it, it lasts about a week and a half. The 2597 is the most cost-effective option. When your phone's bluetooth connection is turned on, it also allows you to talk through it.

Voice Command Issues: I bought this Garmin GPS because it has voice command capabilities
3/5

Until the first update, everything was in order. When we used the "find place," "find address," and other commands, we began to receive error messages. I attempted the updates once more, but they were unsuccessful. When I went online to look for the same complaints, I was shocked to find a large number of them, some dating back several years. I did try some of the suggested fixes (reinstalling language files, reinstalling map files, ensuring text and voice languages were compatible, hard resetting, and so on). Nothing seemed to work. When I contacted Garmin customer service, I was told that the only way to fix the problem was to buy a blank SD card and reinstall the maps. This is why I find it unacceptable: It's a well-written piece. This is a well-documented problem. Despite this, Garmin continues to sell devices it knows are doomed. It also expects you to spend more money in order to repair it. Really? To me, this appears to be an unethical business practice. As a result, I'm posting this review as a buyer beware warning. If you purchase this device, it WILL fail the first time you update it. Definitely, not maybe. Garmin isn't concerned with your customer satisfaction. Make sure you have an SD card on hand.

advertisement that is false
3/5

It stated in the description that it included international shipping. europe . maps. It couldn't get a signal as soon as I arrived at the Milano airport in October and set it up in my car. In fact, it never received a signal anywhere I went; fortunately, I had rented a car with a built-in GPS system and was able to get by with that and my phone. br>This was a ruse to sell it as having built-in international maps when it didn't. Garmin should be ashamed for selling low-quality, faulty products on this platform. Please send me information about how to contact the manufacturer, Amazon. When you don't work on behalf of your customers to resolve issues like this one as soon as they arise, you lose credibility.

The GPS is excellent, but it can no longer store maps for all 50 states
4/5

I've been using this GPS for over a year and have grown accustomed to many of its incredible features. My favorite feature is that it shows a graphical representation of the road with arrows indicating which lane to be in and how to navigate through tricky exits or confusing roads. I also appreciate the fact that speed limits are displayed. The only caveat is that school zones are always listed as 20 mph, even when school is not in session. Furthermore, the device not only indicates how close you are to making a turn, but also what to look for, such as "Turn right after the McDonalds. " " Its routes are almost always the quickest, but recent construction can easily confuse it. Overall, I'd give this GPS 5 stars, but its internal storage is insufficient to store new maps for all 50 states in the United States. When updating the maps, you are limited to only selecting a portion of the country. Despite the fact that these sections are large and cover 20 states, they are still extremely inconvenient.

My Garmin Nuvi is one of my favorite gadgets
5/5

I'm on my second Garmin nuvi, and I'm in love with them. They have the best gps mapping system in the world, in my opinion. After purchasing a vehicle with a built-in gps system and using it, longer and different routes would be taken than the garmin nuvi. I couldn't stand it and didn't trust it, so I announced that I would be purchasing a new Garmin nuvi. It's funny how when I run them together, I can see where the built-in system is failing. I have a strong feeling that I can rely on my Garmin nuvi, which is critical when visiting a new location. Many people I know prefer the garmin nuvi to the built-in gps systems because it is more reliable. The screen is a good size, and I like the road pictures it shows you because they are so clear and easy to understand, especially when it comes to indicating where to turn on an interstate or in tricky areas. I was able to get through a very difficult area with ease. It also does a better job than my built-in gps at counting down to where you're turning. It also includes free lifetime maps, which is a nice bonus. It's a shame this brand wasn't included in the design of my new car.

**** DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY
3/5

This is a waste of time and money. a GPS unit that has been "built" br>It appeared to be in good condition and functioned correctly. . . . . . Then he died after less than a month. As a backup to her phone's GPS, I gave my wife my old Garmin (which she bought new over four years ago and still works fine). Every day, I rely on my GPS to get to new jobs as a contractor. When I saw that it was a "NEW REBUILT" one, I was excited because it had more / faster of the features that my old one did. I took advantage of the low price. br>BAD MOVE ON MY PART! I missed the appointment (and the job) because it died while I was driving to a new customer's house (home under construction, no power or phone). My recommendation is to BUY NEW and enjoy the peace of mind that comes with a warranty.

Nice GPS
4/5

This GPS has been in my car for five years and has now been transferred to my new vehicle. This is a fantastic navigation system. The suction cup remains attached to the windshield for the majority of the time of the time of the time of the time of the time of the time of the time of the It keeps track of all of my recent travels in an easy-to-find list. After that, all I have to do is press the start button. I'll have to say that I often find that the Waze app is more accurate because it displays real-time traffic and better alternate routes, which this GPS does not because it is not that type of technology. There are also some locations that aren't programmed into it, even after I run an upgrade. That's an easy fix; I just type in the exact address, which takes a little longer but is acceptable. Apart from those two minor niggles, everything else is fine. This is a beautiful device that is extremely easy to use. It always tells me how many miles and minutes I've driven, reacts quickly if I miss an exit, and warns me if I'm driving too fast. It lasts a long time when fully charged, but I usually keep it plugged in. This isn't a particularly good talking GPS, and I'm not interested in using it. I'd rather put my headphones on and listen to my music. The night mode is activated at night, and the screen darkens, making it much more comfortable to look at. This is a fantastic basic GPS that I keep in my car at all times. I'm sure there are some that are better. This gets the job done, and I'm happy with it.
