Questions & Answers

Is it possible to read the screen in direct sunlight?

My wife drives all day with the Tom Tom and has never had any difficulty reading the screen in any light. It even switches to night mode at night to help with visibility. br>It looks great in any light, from direct sunlight to the dead of night.

For this item, I'm looking for a replacement cable. Have you been able to track one down?

This is a MicroUSB cable that this unit uses, not a "mini HDMI" cable as previously stated.

What is the total number of languages available?

I'm not sure how many there are, but you can count them if you want! : The following languages are used for Spoken Street Names*: Danish Dutch, Finnish French, German Italian Polish, Russian Portuguese, Spanish, Dutch Irish, Welsh, Czech Serb, Norwegian Norwegian, Spanish, Italian. *Languages may differ slightly depending on whether the country has spoken French or Flemish.

Is there a map of Europe in it?

It all depends on where you buy it. If you purchase it from Amazon in the United States, the map of Europe will be missing. However, if you purchase it through Amazon UK, it will include it. You might be able to buy the Europe map separately and download it before going to Europe. The memory on the device is 4 GB. After downloading the new Europe map from Tomtom's website, you can delete it and reinstall it on your computer.

The lifetime map is a load of nonsense
3/5

The device will not be able to last more than a few years. Three years ago, I purchased this item. Students travel during their breaks, so there isn't a lot of use. I attempted to update the map three months ago, and that was the start of my long story. The file is corrupted or there are no maps. I tried all of the options on their website, then contacted their technical support, which I called more than ten times over the course of more than three months, and each time I stayed for hours and worked on the options they recommended. There were no solutions, so I became dissatisfied and emailed them that I was finished, to which they replied. "We've tried all of the options, and if the map still isn't updated, you're dealing with a hardware issue. " Because it's been over a year, it's no longer under warranty, and we can't help you. We can only offer you a discount on a new device if you email us back at the address below. br>The lifetime map is a farce, as their device is incapable of lasting more than a few years. It's a nightmare in and of itself to keep the map up to date. Their treatment of me as a customer is also deplorable. They are a complete waste of money.

What an ordeal! We had been using a Garmin since our much older model Tomtom died last year, but we really missed the Tomtom interface, so we decided to get this model and were very excited to have one again
3/5

br>Well, it arrived, and we did what anyone would do - we did what anyone would do. Check for updates so that everything is nice and current. br>br>UPDATING THE MAPS WAS AN ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE! The new map would take more than an hour to download, and then it would stop working halfway through installation. The device is not responding, and an error message appears. So you restart it, and then you get the message "No map found. " I gave it one more shot. time after time time after time Nothing was going to work. We now had a brick; after all, what good is a GPS if you don't have a map? br>br>After doing some research, it appears that this is a very common issue, despite Tomtom representatives responding to similar complaints and advising that it should now work because new updates had been installed. We finally got the stupid thing working after nearly a week of trying and being on the verge of returning it, but we're not happy; getting a brand new GPS up and running shouldn't take that much effort. br>br>Today, I received an email from Tomtom informing me that a new map version has been released, and we can update once more! HA! Thank you very much.

Frustrations, Frustrations, Frustrations, Frustrations, F br>Editor's note: Without the assistance of official support, I was able to get the original device to work, and my star rating was raised from one to three
3/5

In the end, this is most likely a good GPS for the average user. It has a user-friendly interface and a number of useful functions. You're on your own if there's a problem with the device. There aren't many options for help. For the money, it's fine. br>br>br>Wow, what a terrible product. When I first opened it, I followed the instructions to get "MyDrive Connect" and then some updates that it installed to the device, but now it says "ANTI THEFT" and I can't do anything with it. I dialed the toll-free number toll-free number toll-free 486- They gave me the 6866 Customer Service number and told me to return it because they couldn't help me with the technical issues. I'm not impressed; there are no hard reset options on the device, nor is there any way to access the system via Windows and manually correct a corrupt TomTom OS. Everything is neatly packaged and kept out of sight of the customer. Previous Tom Tom systems would allow storage drives to mount to the operating system, allowing you to repair them if something like this occurred. It appears that TOM TOM wants to use "MyDrive" to control the device, making it act as a network device rather than mountable storage, and you won't be able to help yourself if it breaks like mine did. It's worth noting that "My Drive" doesn't provide a factory reset tool or anything; instead, it simply informs you if you need to update your computer. This is extremely beneficial. This garbage will be returned to you. This TomTom VIA1505M was a bad buy because it didn't come with lifetime map updates
3/5

See the most recent update for changes. Guess what? On this model, Tom Tom does not support lifetime map updates! Yes, but obtaining the necessary information is extremely difficult. ]

It's not worth the trouble
3/5

I purchased this device because I had previously owned one that had performed admirably. This one, on the other hand, is a disaster. It takes around 5 minutes to find a signal when I first turn it on. It doesn't seem to keep up with me when I'm driving (and I'm not going at Autobahn speeds). If I make the mistake of driving through a tunnel, I lose signal for about 2 to 3 minutes after exiting the tunnel, and I may need to reprogramme my destination. I programmed it on the top of a garage the other day, but by the time I got to the bottom, I had lost the signal. I had to park outside the garage and wait nearly 5 minutes for the signal to return. After driving in circles for a while, I realized the GPS had somehow jumped ahead to my final destination and was giving me incorrect street names, etc. , so I had to pull over again and reprogram it. I can't tell you how many times I've been on the verge of rolling down my window and throwing it out. It's not worth the aggravation.
