Questions & Answers

I'm looking for a GPS for my bike, which has been discontinued. ?

TomTom Rider messed me up. I had spent a lot of money on this unit (around $400) and had only used it for about two years. Then I received an email from them informing me that the maps had been updated. In order to install the update, I carefully followed all of the instructions. It began by erasing all of my unit's previous maps. After that, the updated maps would not load. It wouldn't work any longer, no matter what I tried. I contacted them to inform them that it was their fault that I was unable to use my unit due to the update. I inquired about the possibility of them repairing my device. "No," they said. They are not repaired by us. "Well, you'll have to replace it because your "update" caused it to fail, and it was working fine before I tried to install the update," I explained. "Sorry, your unit has reached the end of its warranty period," they said. " I was enraged, and I demanded to speak with a supervisor. "The best we can do for you," a manager said, "is give you a $10 credit toward a new unit." " It was fantastic while it was operational. I had to get rid of it in the end. I switched to Garmin and am very pleased with it. I would not recommend TomTom to my worst enemy because it is much more reliable and has better customer service.

How does the screen look in natural light?

In direct sunlight, I found it to be nearly useless. I couldn't believe the designer had ever tried it out on a bike during the day. It was given to a friend who had a similar experience with it, and he threw it away. I now use a Garmin 600 series, which is unfortunately much more expensive, but it performs admirably at all times of the day and night. I've had good luck with Tom Tom GPS units in cars, but the motorcycle version is a complete waste of time and money.

Is it possible to charge it while riding with a microusb port?

To charge the device, you will need a cigarette lighter adapter. When you're using it, however, it won't fit in the factory dock, so you'll need to get a new mount. My Tom Tom Rider 2 was fantastic, but I now use a Garmin because their products are well supported. Almost $600 was paid. I paid 00 for my TTR2, and the mount/charger failed within a year. This component is not available in the United States of America. I sent several emails to the company but received no response. I purchased a mini USB charger, which worked fine, but the cradle was difficult to adjust. When using the mini usb, the unit is exposed to the elements, and the watertight door on the bottom of the unit must be kept open to accept the usb plug.

What is the best GPS unit for all-around use?

My Tom Tom Rider 2 was purchased in 2007, and it is without a doubt the most powerful GPS ever produced. I've dropped it a few times, it's been wet, and I've used it in my truck and car. Despite all of the abuse it has received, my tom tom has never let me down. Once you've connected your phone to the helmet's SET, the bluetooth works flawlessly. I'll admit that it's a lot of money for a GPS, but it also comes with a lot of GPS for the money. The countdown to a turn feature is one of my favorite features. If you have a PC, updating is a breeze, but if you have a Mac like me, it can be a pain. On my Mac, reloading my favorites is a pain, but on my wife's computer, it's a breeze, so I use her computer. So, if you're looking for the best all-around computer, I highly recommend the Tom Tom Rider 2; you won't be sorry you spent the money.

It's not worth your money
3/5

I have two TomToms, one a Go930 and the other a Rider 2. br>If you have multiple TomToms, you must register them with separate email addresses. br>You cannot combine them into one account. There isn't currently an alternative solution from the same device if you purchase a map update, that the phone isn't able to use the map update on both maps It does allow a trippin through point with its gps capabilities. As much as you will be able to return mapped routes br>If you're on a road trip, TomTom Rider 2 won't record it. If I had to do it all over again, I would buy the other guys' GPS. br>br>TomTom Rider is a __________!.

TomTom R2 is a GPS navigation system
3/5

If you've used TomTom before, you'll be up and running in no time. If not, experimenting with the settings and controls will quickly bring you up to speed. br>br>Excellent br>br> The majority of the time, precise directions are provided, and satellites are quickly synced. New computer software that is simple to operate. Surprisingly, the headset performs admirably. br>br>It's not going so well- I'm worried about the motorcycle mount's actual strength. It appears to be a little less expensive than I believe it should be. The braces' ability to snap in half will be determined in time. The mount is designed to be left in place once it has been installed, power cable and all. I don't use GPS on a daily basis, and I wish there was a way to remove and conceal the power cable without it being unsightly. br>br>Worst-case scenario: Expensive! I got a good deal on this, but it's still a lot more than most GPS devices. Also keep in mind that you'll need the car mount kit to get audio in the car, and the speaker will need to be plugged in at all times to be powered.

I rode about 4500 miles cross country in two weeks using this model, which has a poor user interface but is otherwise good
3/5

It was able to withstand drops on hard concrete as well as torrential rain. It continues to work flawlessly. br>br>The device has a TomTom-style interface. You'll know how to use this if you've ever used a TomTom navigation system in your car. br>I've had a TomTom car navigation system in the past and disliked it. Interacting with TomTom devices is painful after being spoiled by the intuitive UI of the iPhone's maps application. If you disagree, you'll probably enjoy this device. br>br>People in the 1- to 5-year age range Star corner appears to have a problem with visibility, but I've never had this problem. In fact, I've never used a bluetooth headset for navigation and have always relied on the screen. Even in complex crisscrossing intersections, I found the display to be clear enough to guide me. I've also heard that turning it on is difficult: br>br> If you don't have the finger strength to operate this device, you probably shouldn't ride a motorcycle.

In direct sunlight, the sound is good, but it's difficult to see
3/5

Getting the unit to work with my phone took some cursing and frustration. We went to Verison in search of a working phone (the TomTom list was useless), and we tried everything in the store but were unsuccessful. The next day, I tried again, and for some reason (which no one could explain), it began to work. Because the sound from the ear speaker is good enough to hear over a very loud pipe and my lack of hearing acuity, the turn by turn feature is useful. The screen is difficult to see in direct sunlight, which is one of my complaints. I purchased a couple of glare-reducing screen covers, but they didn't seem to help much. I'll be taking a 2000-mile trip to Key West on Friday, so I'll be putting the unit to the test. Also, I'd like to be able to adjust the size of the letters so that I can read them better. That was something my old Garmin could do, and I miss it. On the other hand, it's cool to have a nice lady tell me when to turn. It's almost as if I had my ex-boyfriend back. I have a wife in the back seat telling me how to drive, but unlike the ex, the TomTom never gets irritated with me.
