Questions & Answers

My motorcycle is a R12GS; Bluetooth is unimportant to me. How well does the 390LM navigate me through unfamiliar cities and back roads in a safe manner?

Both the 390LM and the 390LM The 590LM comes with a feature called "Curvy Roads," which allows you to ride on back roads rather than freeways. highways or byways The decision between the 390LM and the 590LM is based on your preferences for screen size and the 590LM's additional functionality. Please keep in mind that any existing Garmin GPS mount on your motorcycle will need to be replaced in order to accommodate either of the new models!

Can you tell me what's included in the GPS box?

Is there a motorcycle handlebar mounting system included with the 390LM? What should you do if that is not the case?

If my memory serves me correctly, There is a mount included. Is there a direct link to a Sena 20 from this?

It will, in my opinion. If it's a Bluetooth device, that is.

On sunny days, it's a disaster
3/5

The Good- Zumo is a fantastic app that is extremely useful on a trip. br> The Bad - Basecamp software is a real challenge to get to the point where you can plan out a trip, but if you keep trying, after several hours of watching videos and reading other people's reviews, you will eventually get to the point where you can use it to plan out routes. br> Visibility of the unit on a bright sunny day- This is where Garmin fails miserably, and you have to wonder how anyone could market this as being visible on a bright sunny day while riding. When the sun is shining directly on the screen, even with the brightness set to the maximum and the map theme with the highest contrast, it is impossible to see what is on the screen. There are times when the glare is so intense that it appears as if the light is turned off. I've tried mounting it in every possible location on the bike, and your only hope is to make some sort of massive shade device out of Kydex or tinted plexi-glass. Glass to help or pray for clouds and rain each time you ride; it's a shame because seeing the Zumo is extremely beneficial. Overall, Basecamp is a mediocre program for route planning, and the unit receives 5 stars for how well it works early morning or late afternoon, but it receives 0 stars for use during the day, as it is nearly useless. So decide for yourself how important a GPS is to you. Also, I don't believe the issue is specific to Zumo; based on my research, it appears that they all have the same issue.

Finally, a GPS that fulfills my requirements

what I haven't tested yet is whether I can export from Garmin Base Camp and have that export 100% on the GPS - The previous ones kept recalculating the route and changing it. br>br>The plastic is very sturdy, with a nice weight and a solid feel. The only irritant is the way they handled the motorcycle cradle. You can't use the USB port while it's on the cradle. Power is supplied by the cradle's own pins. and the dreaded traffic receiver is connected to the charging cable via USB. So when you put it on the cradle, there will be no traffic because you won't be able to plug in the USB because the cradle will block it. I'm not sure if this was done on purpose or as an "ooops" moment, but it's certainly stupid. However, the traffic data provided by these GPS devices is never accurate enough - It's easy to fall into that trap because there's always enough time. As a result, I don't give a damn about this flaw.

For two reasons, I gave it four stars instead of five: the brightness is insufficient when viewed straight on, and the price is too high
4/5

When I installed mine, I discovered that the U bracket that came with it was too small to accommodate the handle bar's dimensions. I spent $3 at Homedepot on a stainless U bracket. br>The provided Ram support appears to be very sturdy; however, without the GPS installed, it appears to be quite unsightly; therefore, the factory may consider an aftermarket cover. br>4 stars instead of 5 for two reasons: the brightness is insufficient in direct sunlight, and the internal processor could be faster for a $500 unit; the screen becomes sluggish, similar to a 1990 computer. IMPORTANT REQUIREMENTS FOR INSTALLATION: br> br>Don't connect the GPS to your battery directly; the small little box in the GPS wiring is a 12 to 5 volts converter that will eventually drain your battery. br>Connect the wire to a source of ignition, such as the headlight fuse or something similar. br>By connecting the GPS unit to the ignition point, the GPS unit will turn on/off when you start or stop the ignition with the key, without draining the battery or causing any unpleasant surprises.

Motorcycles will love it
5/5

This has been in my possession for about 6 months and I am pleased with it. I've never had any issues with it, and it's always at full brightness and easy to see when it's charging on the bike. The only time I've had difficulty seeing it is when the sun is directly behind me, in which case I simply move my head a few inches to block it out when I look down. The disadvantages: br>br> And it's a disaster! Basecamp, Garmin's trip planning software, is the most incomprehensible piece of nonsense I've ever seen. It isn't user-friendly in the least! Find something else to do; I recommend the Harley-Davidson ride planner, which is free. All you need to do now is export the. Manually drop the gxp file into the device.
