Questions & Answers

Hello, how long does it take to get something delivered in Orlando?

Amazon Prime can be delivered in as little as two days.

Is this going to fit in the V's compatible mount?

It'll fit in the Nav 5's cupholders. If you're looking for a place to live in K- There is a replacement part available for the 1600 models that allows for a more customized fit.

Will this fit my r 1250 gs adventure, and will I be able to purchase maps from South America?

It will fit your bike, but only the maps from North America are included. Garmin offers additional maps for purchase. Thanks

I'm just checking to see if this fits the cradle on my 2016 R1200R, as the headline says "new for 2017." ?

Hello Chris,br>br>Yes, it will fit the 2016 cradle because the BMW Nav 5 mount hardware is retro compatible.

It's a great screen, but it's behaving strangely
4/5

This is a huge improvement over the Navigator IV I replaced it with, and I'd give it five stars if it weren't for two things: br>br>1) The touch screen behaves strangely at times, especially when it is cold (i. e. a temperature of less than 50 degrees Fahrenheit) outside. What I mean is that the spot on the screen where I touch (whether or not I'm wearing gloves - It makes no difference) actually activates the half-inch above it on the screen. When I try to type the letter "H" into the keyboard, for example, the letter "D" appears instead. This happens on every screen, including the keyboard and other displays - When you're standing outside in the cold, trying to type in a name to search for can be quite frustrating. This problem occurs on a regular basis - When I called Garmin, they said they'd never heard of it before - It returns to normal behavior once the ambient temperature rises a little. When it happens again (which I'm sure it will) and I have a camera, I'll take pictures to send to Garmin. 2) The unit's business-related data is woefully lacking (and I did download the most recent update in January 2018). That is, when I search for restaurants, it does not turn up a number of them in my neighborhood that have all been open for more than five years. It's understandable if a newly opened business hasn't yet been added to the database, but the absence of long-standing establishments is unacceptable. br>br>For those reasons, I give it three stars. On the plus side, the screen is a million times better than the one on the Nav IV. It's even better than the Garmin Zumo 595, which is the top of the line. When my friend and I compared tour GPS screens, his 595 was nearly as bad as my old Nav IV. The Nav VI doesn't even resemble the Zumo 595, where the Zumo 660 and Nav IV appeared to be nearly identical except for some firmware issues. While appearances are unimportant (though the Nav VI does fit in the Zumo 660 mounts I installed on my bikes), the screen difference is significant. br>br>Another significant improvement in the Nav VI over the IV is its operating speed. The VI appears to be at least 10 times faster than the PC, from startup to the process of entering search names and so on. Whereas the IV could take up to 2 seconds to respond when I pressed a letter key (for example, when searching for a restaurant name), the VI's response time is almost instantaneous - Once again, this is a huge step forward. br>br>So I'm sticking with the VI because it's infinitely easier to read in all light conditions and responds to keypresses much faster. The missing businesses issue is annoying, but hopefully someone from Garmin's BMW division will figure out how to add more up-to-date information. And the strange screen behavior (which is sporadic) is something I'll look into once I can get some photos of it. br>br>UPDATE: March 9, 2018: Because of Garmin's audible service, I've raised my rating to 4 stars (from 3). When I called the 800 number to report the problems again (I had done so about a month ago just to put it in the record), the representative simply said that they would issue a UPS label to return mine and replace it, having gleaned my ID from my phone number. My point is that customer service has once again proven to be an important aspect of the process. br>br>Now, if any of you using Garmin GPS haven't received this level of support, it's possible that it's because the 800 number I called is only for BMW OEM units, not generics (it could be used for other OEM models, such as Harley), but the point is that it's not the generic call in number. So maybe as a result of that, they treated me better - Garmin, on the other hand, was a pleasure to work with in this day and age of horrible IVR (interactive voice response) systems and uncaring customer service teams.

The screen is excellent, and the response time is much faster than the IV, but there is no audio
3/5

The navigator works well, and the information is very useful; the screen is bright and easy to see even in direct sunlight. But: If you don't use a bluetooth headset, you won't be able to hear anything. I was hoping to hook up to the motorcycle's audio system, but there isn't a way to do so. Perhaps it's a blessing in disguise; perhaps another owner who has upgraded already knows something I don't. I also had to replace the instrument cowling, which took about 5 minutes and the display fits perfectly in the new cowl. Bottom line: Yes, it's a fantastic device; however, it might not be worth the investment. There was a built-in speaker on the previous one. That is not the case here. We also believe the unit is between $300 and $400 overpriced, and the navigator's best feature is that it displays your actual speed. The speedometer on the motorcycle is approximately 4 mph higher than the actual speed. I'm not sure I'd do it again, but it's a good navigator. Let's face it, I'm a big fan of Garmin's avionics and road GPS units. The BMW VI is no exception; it's a pleasant upgrade, but it comes at a cost.

It doesn't add $1000 worth of enjoyment to the bike
3/5

My Zumo 390 had a built-in speaker, a physical 1/8" audio jack, and a microsd slot, all of which were all accessible from the outside. The Navigator has no speaker, and the only audio output is via bluetooth. It can play MP3s from the microSD card, but for some reason they sound terrible. The wonder wheel interface appears to do little more than zoom in and out, and it can be quite irritating when you bump it and your map slides away. The Nav appears to be very knowledgeable about the motorcycle, including the color of the paint. It also appears to be able to tell you why the yellow triangle light is on, rather than just that it is on, which I can see for myself. Also, could you please reset my maintenance reminder? That would be extremely beneficial. The low fuel warning is on when I have 1 Gallon of gas left, which is 20%, and the Nav begins to bong about once every 10s until you refill it again until There's no way to get it to stop talking. You can even turn it off, and the bike will turn itself back on in about a minute. You know, I'm busy riding my bike and looking for gas, so don't bother me, I'm working on it. The maps are inaccurate in the curvy areas of the world where I like to ride. (While you do get lifetime map updates, they are still incorrect. ) ) I mean, in cities, accuracy is more important, but being directed down a road that is no longer maintained can be confusing at times. I have the potential to be a lot better than I am right now. It must also be turned on in order to charge the battery.

The screen is not working properly
3/5

It was just delivered to me. It has a screen that is very inconsistent. Areas of unusually bright light Look at the image. I was hoping for perfection from a $1000 GPS. No, I don't think so.

Too much and too soon to require technical assistance
3/5

I've had this expensive item for a week and have only used it three times on my bike, and today the screen is frozen and on. Inside the cradle, it will not turn off. I tried everything, but nothing seemed to work. I guess I'll have to reset everything. I'd be irritated if I really needed this or if I was in a bad climate. The customer service provided by Garmin is terrible. It's like trying to find a human in a maze.

Excellent customer service; I kept this GPS in its carrier for a few weeks after my first motorcycle trip with it
3/5

It was dead the second time I tried to use it. I contacted the seller, who suggested a solution and followed up to ensure that it worked and that I was satisfied. The GPS system appears to be functioning properly.

I give it two thumbs up
5/5

I have a 2021 R1250 GSA and aside from how great it looks while riding with it installed, it provides a lot of information while on the road, especially in areas where cell service is unavailable, the device continues to guide you to your destination. It's a joy to have highly recommend it once it's properly paired with the TFT and your Sena.

The K1600 GTLE was introduced in 2014
5/5

The screen is much better and much faster, with much better visibility in bright sunlight. Touch screen reactivity has improved. Overall, it works flawlessly with the BMW motorcycle and helmet communication systems. From NAV V, this is a huge step forward. After selling my factory NAV V for $400, it was well worth it.
