Questions & Answers

Does it last long enough to power a security camera system and Can you help me with something to keep my camera and dvr going in the event of a power outage?

If you could let me know how much current your appliances use, I may be able to answer your question more completely. Depending on how long the battery stays charged, it is determined how long it will last before its dying. In your case, though, a UPS supply is not the right device. In the event that the AC power goes out, your computer might crash if a UPS is attached. To assure that you have enough backup power to save your data and turn off your computer, make sure you have a proper backup power supply. For example, in some locations the AC is pretty reliable but the power gets interrupted for a short period of time By installing a UPS every day or two, you'll prevent your computer from getting messed up by those periodic A gas-filled candle holder can provide you with the same type of security as a battery backup if you're concerned about your power going out for a long period of time Generator powered by electric power. In the absence of more than a few low-end models If power is needed to run appliances, power can be provided by a small battery bank The battery life is long, but not as long as a computer UPS The result would be the same. There are switches that will switch your camera from the main AC to the battery backup bank. I'm not sure what I'm doing, but I believe that is what I'm doing. A power inverter is a device that converts 12 volts into 115 volts, which will be connected to your battery backup bank. The job of adding backup power to your camera is considered to be a "small, straightforward job" by contractors who work in solar panel installations.

If the battery needs to be changed, how difficult is it to do so?

My unit (450w) is open, so I can see what it's about. An important safety feature of the battery door is that it is held in place by a small screw that prevents it from opening by accident. Whenever you need a battery, you can probably get one right here on Amazon it appears to be a completely standard 9Ah 12V SLA battery.

Before it needs to be replaced, how long is the battery good for?

As of right now, I have at least 10 UPS devices in my house, plus another four spare trickle-charge devices As replacements, there are batteries in charge waiting to be installed. Sealed Lead Acid batteries should not be good for more than 36 months in my opinion. Like your car battery, it needs to be charged regularly It will dramatically decrease its capacity if you let it get too tired. It will be OK at some point, but when you need it most, it will not be able to function as it should. It is not a good idea to wait until you truly need a UPS.

What is the voltage regulation of this device?

The answer to this question is both yes and no. Unreliable wall current is converted to stable battery current on the battery side. As such, the battery voltage is somewhat "regulated" on the side of the battery. surge of a new era in the world On its only side (no battery), this function behaves like a standard surge protector. This means it doesn't keep the voltage consistent, but hopefully prevents critical spikes that could damage your product. If lightning were to strike your system, the battery would melt first, then your system. As a surge protector, it can arc and fry everything from the surge protectors to the outlet to whatever it is connected to. Computer, router, printer, monitor, and printer are vital items in the battery department. After I understood the disadvantage of auto restart, I revised my rating down to 3 stars
3/5

Besides that, I give the unit a solid 5 stars. Originally published in 2013 (check the revised update below)
OK, I appear to be one of the early adopters & I am quite impressed with this product. All seems to be well so far. Specifically, I bought the model with 450W 800VA. A power cord and an AC adapter are required An example plug would be A right angle plug whose prongs can be rotated so that it is easy to access the second outlet is a good idea. It is about 6 to 7 feet in length and the enclosure is some ABS plastic that feels supple and durable. I am not concerned with the thinness, however, since I am not intending the thing to serve as a foot rest or a doorstop that will be struck. There are no significant problems with the plastic finish. There is a battery that comes already connected to its internal power supply. This was not what I expected I thought it would arrive like APC units do, where you open up the battery compartment and see the microprocessor inside In this case, I did not connect it myself, which was a safety issue in shipping. An SLA battery of 9 Ah is provided in the 450W unit. In the future, when it dies, I can replace the battery. It appears to be a normal standard battery. Quite a few outlets on this thing, which is both a pro and a con Contrary to what most people believe. I provide a pro for The numbers are high, but they are all pretty close together, since their distances are not that far apart. You may have to use the every second outlet & power brick if you have power bricks that are slightly larger than the outlet you are plugging into You should reduce the number of effective outlets you have. Some people may find this to be a problem. It was not difficult to find enough outlets for my needs, although I had to alternate a few of them manual that comes with it is OK, but it does not mention, as it should, As for the software, it's similar to the APC software with a few extra features you can adjust, which I liked. I turned off the alarm as I didn't want them, and it shows you the battery health and other things. A battery's life will vary greatly depending on what is plugged into the machine. As of that point, the unit should have been able to run for the projected length of time. (It seems some people cannot do simple math or understand why a 1000W load is an issue if it's a 450W unit. *) -One thing that might be annoying & My unit might just be my unit, but when I plug it in, I hear a faint, but audible buzz from the transformer. While it is annoying, I am placing the unit in a place that is not convenient for siting, so in my application it would not be a factor. However, if the unit were connected to your workspace, the buzz might annoy you. The moment I noticed it, I realized that it might not be a one-off.
Since it is rated for continuous use, I believe it is a good value for the money, as long as you load it within the max capacity available. A question I have yet to resolve is whether it will automatically restart if there is a power outage & As I need it for a router and a laptop, I wanted to deplete the battery to the maximum. Modems commonly do not auto restart and it would be a pain if they did. I might need to drain it fully by experimenting and seeing if it works. Re-phrase the sentence Utilize power and knowledge to achieve success (I will see what happens when I have some free time. to 3 star Date 8/5/18
However, I do think a UPS should be able to restart itself after power failure. My question was about when the battery would run out, and no one could answer me. Today I discovered that it does NOT auto restart after running out of power. Our UPS lasted for the duration of an 4 hr brownout today, and it maintained power to my application for a nice long time. It did what it was supposed to do and took over when input voltage fell below a certain threshold (which is set Nevertheless, when the full line voltage came back and the battery was low and depleted, As soon as I turned off the unit, it refused to restart. I had to manually press the button to get it going again. Since I need an auto restart feature, this is a failure from my standpoint. Another APC unit did everything it was supposed to do, and that was the case elsewhere The Amazon UPS has auto-restarted, so I am ordering a new APC UPS shortly after typing this message, in order to replace it. I find this a deal-breaker, but it may not be a deal-breaker for you, as your application is yours alone, as it is mine & yours It was necessary for me to try something new. In light of this fact, I went from a 5 to a 3, but this unit is still a very good 3 star unit in all other areas, so if you don't need auto restart, I still recommend it. If you do need auto restart, do not purchase. Although I am sorry to say these things, I look forward to seeing what this unit can accomplish. The truth as I see it is all I give in my reviews, and you get the truth as I see it, with no bias. I hope you found this useful. In addition, I tried to answer a few of the unanswered questions people had posted on this device.

Despite "AmazonBasics" offering $75,000 of connectivity equipment guarantee, it is falsely advertised
3/5

It's not funny at all. The WiFi network at my place of business was installed by our staff and we wanted individual UPS power supplies for each switch and WiFi Access Point. The Amazon branded product appeared to be the best possible match as I was looking for what would work best. It was a fair price, and I really liked their "Back by a limited one-year AmazonBasics warranty. " All batteries are covered by one-year warranty A $75,000 connected equipment guarantee is included in the program. It appears in the description at the end. There is no warranty on this product. Our building experienced a power surge, and most of the UPSs worked correctly, but there was 1 that didn't. A surge damaged all equipment connected to it, and all of it has stopped working as a result. The amount is over $00 worth of equipment was destroyed (most of it ordered from Amazon) and will need to be replaced. Basically, I just wanted some credit I could get, a gift card, anything! All the serial numbers and images I had of the equipment were available to me. As soon as I realized that the product was backed by a Limited 1-Year warranty, I contacted customer support and requested that we submit the issue. All batteries are covered by one-year warranty A guarantee for connected equipment worth $75,000 is offered. My Amazon Customer Support rep would only follow up with me within three days if I reached out to them 3+ times, but each time he said someone would follow up with me within three days. " I am waiting for my warranty claim after 5 business days. The total amount of time I spent was 4 over several days) of my time spent sending emails, talking on the phone, taking pictures and chatting online have not yielded any results. There is no timeline for following up on this issue, and I am always ignored, and I have been promised, "I will call you personally on (x) date. ". In the next few days, I no longer heard from her by phone or followed up As I followed up, I would email them back, only to have a different person respond and tell me I should call Amazon Customer Support (which means I would need to start over and explain my story again). There is nothing I dislike more than the repeated false promises and disregard (whether intentional or not) In particular, when you buy a new device, you are provided with a warranty. In spite of the fact that I am a regular user of Amazon services, I found the way this situation was handled very disappointing and I feel as though I wasted my time and was My recommendation is not to purchase this product.

You need to be there to reset the device before buying In addition to my router, I bought three of these UPS units to handle random short-term outages
3/5

The UPS units work well for this purpose. There is a major problem and a huge deal breaker when there is a longer power outage and the batteries run out of power. You need to physically be at the UPS unit after A/C power returns in case the battery power doesn't last, in order to activate the reset button and restore power to your UPS-connected equipment. In the event of AC power being restored, I was expecting the UPS unit to start back up, but it does not do so unless you are physically present to press.

When the battery is empty, the switch automatically switches to the mains
5/5

Reviews on this site claim that you need to restart the unit after a power outage, but some of those reviews seem inaccurate. According to the warning beeps that stopped after power was restored, this may be the case if the battery gets completely discharged, but I just briefly tested it after receiving it, and it switched back to the mains after power was restored. In case of a power outage involving a battery that does not get completely drained, you do not need to restart or reset your UPS, as it will switch back to mains without any need for manual action.

I don't like that it doesn't auto restart
3/5

The unit itself isn't too bad, but my main issue is that after a power outage and when the power comes back on, the unit continues to run on its battery until it is manually reset Certainly this may work for some people who are using their equipment at the time, but for me it's a real pain Two-minute) outages and shutting down everything to restart the unit are quite painful. The device would be the winner if it were able to automatically switch to main power when needed.
