You have time to convert 8mm and DV to digital media during this pandemic of staying at home. My old cable, however, was misplaced, and I was able to locate this one. For what I needed, it worked perfectly. It appears to be of good quality and has a good construction. There were no issues with the shipment when it arrived on time.

Several dozens of 20-year-old Sony camcorder Hi8 tapes must be converted to digital format. There is only a 1394 connection. The cable is in perfect working order.

When it arrived, it was defective

I tried transferring tapes from a MiniDV camcorder with this. It was not recognized when I tried it on three different FireWire ports. Maybe it was just bad luck, or maybe the low-cost cords aren't the best option.
