You don't have to connect an Ethernet to your cable box if you need to. There were two of these of a very long length that we bought. Because she was having trouble holding WiFi between our router and her laptop, my daughter used the shorter one between them. Since she used to work from home every couple of weeks, she did this. As part of Covid, she worked at home full time. saved a large amount of money by purchasing a second (long cable) that would allow her to work anywhere in the house on her work laptop, In this case, it was really helpful to use a lap top and WiFi.

There is an My Monoprice Cat5e cables have an internal snag boot that prevents them from being unplugged by hand. The only way I could disconnect them was to press the locking tab with flat tools such as a feeler gauge, small screwdriver or butter knife. In fact, one cannot disengage the tab with just a normal (or even very excessive) pinching action between thumb and forefinger, because the design and stiffness of the boot are not conducive to this. After testing both ends of both cables with at least three or four different devices, including a cable tester, I was sure that the problem wasn't with the female socket. I've got a typical Ethernet cable. You can tell it's sturdy by the clips on the end and it's fairly flexible by the way it operates. Cable of good quality.
You can easily use this item on your laptop or any other device. The cords I connect for most things should be short. I prefer not to have tangled cords. When these types of connections are used, things look neater, fewer cord tangles occur, and there is less interference.
