Yes, it will work, but you must update the 1197 with the most recent software and contact Hummingbird for compatible software for the 898. They will send it to you free of charge; it is not available on their website. You won't be able to share with each other if the 898 doesn't have the most recent software.
The cable number and the picture are not the same, Jay. br>The 720073- is a telephone number that can be dialed from anywhere in the United States. Two AS EC 10E cables with threaded connections connect two Ethernet compatible systems or one system to a network box. I'm unable to communicate with Humminbird systems from earlier versions. My setup includes a newer bow-mounted 999 SI CS HD, a Minn Kota GPS-controlled trolling motor, and a console-mounted 798, all of which are all connected to a network box. br>I hope that this information is useful.
It's compatible with my Helix 9 Si and Helix 9 sonar/gps.
I BOUGHT TO CONNECT A HUMMINBIRD 899 TO A HELIX 9 BUT HAVEN'T TRYED IT YET, you may also need an adapter cable AS EC QDE, according to answers on Cabelas site.

Without purchasing an ethernet box, I used the ethernet cable to connect two Helix 9 G3N units directly. It was simple to synchronize them, and now I can see the same readouts at the front of my boat as I do at the console. I also have Humminbird 360 Imagining on both units, which I can see. So, for a fraction of the cost of setting up an ethernet network, this ethernet cable has provided me with additional capability. It's a fantastic product that delivers outstanding results.
There's not a whole lot to say about it. It's a network cable that runs from my Humminbird switch to the dongle in my Helix 7. It works! The cable ends appear to be well-made, which I appreciate given the high cost of these items.
