Questions & Answers

Can you tell me what color the cable is?

As described on the package, the cable we received is grey, not white. This cable is not for those who are looking for vibrant colors.

Can this be used on a MAC?

The kind of device you have depends on what type of mac or Apple it is. However, Apple does have adapters for devices that cannot accept a direct Ethernet connection.

It is very long, but it is soft I have used this cable to connect my modem to my router around the perimeter of my room
4/5

It has worked well for this purpose. In addition to offering fast speeds as advertised, the cable fits nicely into Only the material used to wrap the cables brings me to my only complaint. Despite being flexible on the inside, the cables feel rigid on the outside. If you plan on moving this cable often, make sure you install it correctly, as some of the plastic appeared to be forming cracks even when the cable was set up. For the cable to have a solid hold in place, I used small nails to run them around the perimeter of my room. It seems strange that they made a cable so stiff out of a flexible material.

The outer casing has begun to disintegrate
3/5

The PRO is Using this cable, you will be able to transfer signal from your hub/router to your device, and the signal seems fine

CON I use this device for light to medium work, and the outer casing has started falling apart after just a few months. The following are more details In fact, my wife uses this cable because she is always having troubles with her WiFi connection on her MacBook (a topic for another time and It is the 25-minute clock she uses We need a cable that more than 8 feet long so we can plug it directly into our cable modem/router in a room adjacent to the modem. She typically coils it up and stashes it out of the way at the end of the day. In the attached photos, you can see that the casing has developed numerous holes along its length, where the individual signal wires can now be observed. It is predicted that it will become completely inoperable at some point, likely over the next few months.

If you are going to buy something that will last longer than six months, don't skimp on the price. The quality is pretty low on this one.

If you are looking for decent quality, do not buy this cable
3/5

The AmazonBasics ethernet cable is so bad it is a waste of money. I've bought other cables from Amazon before and had no issues, but this one is even worse (and the two 50 foot ones I bought 4 months ago are headed to the garbage). I have a problem with them, what do I do? There are two things to keep in mind *** 1) The jacket is made of plastic (and very thin). Because of this, the cable will not be able to lay flat once it is uncoiling, but that is not even the worst thing about the jacket, which is. If you even look at it the wrong way (which is to say, if you look at it at all), it cracks open. It is likely that once it cracks, the cracks will travel along the jacket's length. 2) the connectors do not fit snugly enough into my laptop computer, causing sporadic outages due to a small amount of play. The previous 50 foot Ethernet cables I have bought have all had thick, rubbery outer jackets, and have lasted several years before failing after a while according to the usual pattern There is a break in the tab that locks the connector into place. In summary, my opinion is that you should not consider buying this at any.

There is nothing to complain about with this Saving money by going cheaper is a There is nothing to complain about with this It is not so easy to screw up cables as long as you avoid the cheapest
5/5

Be sure to read the reviews of this cable as well as any others that you are There is a certain level of disposable nature to cables. If they break, it's a hassle to replace them, but it's cheaper and easier to buy replacements instead of getting another cable of the same quality replaced by a warranty. With over two decades of experience as a network engineer, I have expertise in a wide range of technologies. My own cables have largely been made over the years however, the higher data rates of today have me avoiding them whenever I can. As a result of these higher data rates, it is also important to avoid the cheapest options. When they partially fail, the worst case scenario is that they are not functioning at all. Even if you get connectivity, you will still have to retransmit a lot. It is not feasible for most networks (including my own at home) to monitor the ethernet connections they are using to identify problems caused by cheap cables. When a cheap cable can destroy most of the data transmitted between you and the internet, why pay for 50Mbps service? Having the AmazonBasics brand means (to me) that they will supply a product that still maintains the Amazon image of quality without having to spend time and money on replacing so False economies are cheap cables. The reviews are deservedly bad for the cheap cables. In their pursuit of durability and quality, they compromise.

It was of poor quality and internally failed
3/5

I spent hours trying to clear up my network problems, even trying to splice in a new RJ-45 A cable consisting of 45 connectors can be found on various sections of it. Nevertheless, there is no progress. For the issues to go away, I had to replace the entire cable with a known good cable. I do not know why this cable failed internally since it was used indoors at room temperature, and there was never any foot traffic on it. The size of the measurement is I measured 6 ohms of resistance through each wire at various lengths along the way, but apparently that's not good enough for my ethernet card to get a decent There must've been an internal oxidation process running in the copper. In the future, I will not trust Amazon Basics ethernet cables.

A defective cable that I bought to run from my cable closet to my living room router has been returned
3/5

I got a replacement because the first one didn't work (no connection was registered on any devices). The replacement cable I ordered from Amazon arrived one day later, and Amazon gets points for that, I was surprised to learn Both of these options do not work. There is no error message on any of the other Ethernet cables I own, but none are long enough - I know it's the cable and not the I was only able to see the amber link light for approximately half a second before the line went dead again when I plugged the replacement into my router.
