Questions & Answers

Is there a way to remove the wrist rest?

Yes, it's magnetic, and it should be very simple to put together. Both must be on a stable surface or they will detach.

Is there an on-screen keyboard on this keyboard? If attached to a device that does not have the razer software installed, such as a XIM4, is there enough on-board memory to store the color profiles?

Yes and no. It has some presets (such as the rainbow wave, color breathing, twilight, ripple, and so on) that you can set and then use on another system (even the XIM4) that doesn't have Razor's software. However, none of your custom settings will be remembered. You can, for example, change how quickly the colors change or which colors appear, but those changes will only be visible on the system that is running Razor's software. On all other systems, it will only display the default settings from the last preset you used.

Is it water resistant like the Logitech G213 Prodigy, which is semi-waterproof? Is there any way to tell if a membrane will break if water is spilled on it?

An IPX rating indicates whether or not a device is water resistant. To obtain an IPX rating, they must at least deceive someone who knows, which costs them money. Instead of relying on whatever random statements Razer makes on the box, you should use that to make your decision. "Spill- "Resistant" could literally mean anything to them. It's similar to the phrase "all-inclusive." Arsenic is an "all-natural" poison. Despite the fact that it is "natural," even small amounts can easily kill a person.

Is it possible to use this keyboard with a Macbook Pro?

Yes, it does, and I'm using it with a 13-inch MacBook Pro from 2014. I had no issues installing the Razer Synapse software.

For transcription, this is an excellent keyboard! However, if you're looking for something on the upper end of the mid-range, (UPDATED 8/2018) a profile with high-quality issues An overview of overall performance is presented in the first half of this review
3/5

The bottom half contains an update on quality control and slow replacement issues, which prompted me to downgrade this from a 4-star rating to a 3-star rating. to a 3- a 5-star rating br>br>I didn't buy this keyboard to play games with; instead, I bought it to type on. I work as a transcriptionist and face many of the same issues that gamers face. I type faster when the keyboard provides adequate tactile feedback; it must not be too loud, and the key spacing must be adequate. Even ghosting is an issue at this point. The Ornata is one of the best keyboards I've ever used, and it's helped me get more work done. br>br>Key Atmosphere: I'm a big guy, and I'm not afraid to show it. I'm a left-handed typist, so I find membrane to be more convenient. A good click, on the other hand, is something I enjoy. Having a 'tickity-tocky-tocky-tocky-tocky-t With depression, I find it easier to stay 'in the zone' while typing. When I'm not working, I prefer to type on my Macbook Pro keyboard, which is a membrane/mechanical hybrid like the Ornata, which is one of the main reasons I chose it. You get the 'click' while maintaining a softer touch. The Ornata keyboard has a stronger 'click' than a Macbook keyboard, but it still has that hybrid feel. Key Height: br>br>Key Width: br>br>Key Width: br> The Ornata bills itself as a "middle of the road" vehicle. On the Razer website, there's a profile key (I'm not sure why it's called 'low profile' in all the professional reviews; Even by gaming keyboard standards, it isn't quite up to par). That was an excellent suggestion. With low- Full-profile keys (and especially full-profile full-profile full-profile full-profile full- When typing at full speed (on chiclets), it's all too easy to press multiple keys at once. The Ornata, on the other hand, has keys that 'float' above the keyboard base's profile. The final effect isn't quite as dramatic as high-profile keys, but it's still quite impressive; I was expecting something a little shorter. Hand fatigue is exacerbated by key height, particularly if you're a heavy-handed person. It would be closer to'mid-sized' typist if the keys were set a little deeper into the base of the keyboard, or made a little shorter. 'Profile' is a term used in the trade to describe a person' You get easier cleaning (see Cleaning below) for this key seating. anti-br>anti-br>anti-br>anti-br>anti-br>anti-br Ghosting: When I type quickly, I frequently find myself pressing the next key in a sequence before my finger has fully "disengaged" the previous one. This means ghosting on any other keyboard I've used. I'd use 'thes' rather than 'these' and so on. This is avoided by the Ornata, which improves my work efficiency significantly. I spend less time correcting 'thes,' 'tht,' and 'thoug's than I usually do. Key Volume: br>br> This is a mid-level game in my opinion. It's all about the volume. It's a lot quieter at 15-minute intervals. year- "THUMPITY-THUMPITY-THUMPITY-THUMPITY-THUMPITY-THUMPITY-THUMPITY-THUMPITY-THUMPITY-THUMPITY-THUMPITY-THUMPITY- WHACKITY," but it's no match for my Macbook in terms of quiet. I can still transcribe without the key volume making it difficult to hear my files, but a friend who works on the phone pointed out that their customers would be able to hear their typing. The volume is too loud for a hybrid key in my opinion. It appears to be trying to make a noise. That, I believe, is the part that irritates me the most. It's made of inorganic substances. It doesn't have a 'natural' feel to it. It would be fantastic if it were the same volume but with a less sharp sound. This isn't the keyboard for you if you're looking for a'stealthy' keyboard. br>br>Programmability: br>br>Programmability: br>br>Programmability: TBA. I haven't played around with it yet, but I do use a few macros while working. After I've fiddled with it some more, I'll update this review. The keyboard updates are a minor annoyance, to be sure. You won't be able to use your keyboard until you restart your computer, as I discovered the hard way. br>On the other hand, the Synapse software frequently disappoints. I'm a part of the new version's beta program. Although it performs better, the "improved" main interface is massive, slow to load, and unattractive. For no apparent reason, there is a lot of negative space. It also lacks the customization features you'd expect: the keyboard is fully customizable, but the interface cannot be customized to only show the options you use. The Chroma (color-related) is a term that refers to the color spectrum. The customization screen (change) is still a little awkward to use, but it's a lot better than it used to be. br>br>Color br>br>Color br>br>Color b Programming in Colors: It's amazing. For me, the color is just icing on the cake, but it adds a lot of variety to my workday. It has a nice color scheme and is rich and lovely. a change in color It has a few flaws in terms of programming. The first is that the software is in need of improvement, though the new Synapse beta is far superior to the old one. I'm still having issues with the keyboard's color cycle being reset to default after updates. Cleaning: br>br>Cleaning: br>br>Cleaning: br>br>Cle Someone asked a question about it, and I realized how simple it is to clean this keyboard. My dogs drool all of the time; In other keyboards, fur tends to accumulate between the keys. I don't get as much fur between the keys because of the 'floating' set and spacing, and whatever does get in is easy to get out. With just a napkin or my nails, I can tease out almost anything that falls between the keys. With canned air or a paintbrush, it would be simple to clean up. A Q-tube could be dampened even if something was stuck to the membrane. Remove it with a q-tip or a stiff paintbrush. br>br>Overall, I would strongly advise it for heavy-duty applications. typists who need to type quickly and accurately with one hand. I deducted a star because the click volume was overcompensated, and the keys were taller than they needed to be for true'mid-range' typing. height. 'br>br>UPDATE: The rating has been reduced from 4 to 3 stars: br>After about eight months of use, the keyboard's LEDs began to malfunction. The Razer customer service team is outstanding; I've dealt with them twice now and both times they've been fantastic. I requested a replacement for my old keyboard from Razer. I was grateful for the free shipping both ways, but it was only by ground. It took nearly a month from the time I shipped it to them until I received my replacement. br>br>Six months after receiving my replacement, the black coating on the center of my space bar is beginning to wear away. I'm the proud owner of a. A 5 inch section has completely worn away, while a 2 inch section has a heavy gloss from wear and is about to wear away. The coating on a shoddy laptop keyboard lasted five years longer than this one. The strange thing is that this didn't happen on my previous Ornata after six months of similar use. br>br>When I contacted Razer customer service, I received prompt, professional responses, and the agent double-checked my issue with a specific department. Unfortunately, this is considered normal "wear and tear," and my warranty period begins on the date of purchase. Replacement key caps are available from Razer, but when I contacted customer service, they were out of stock. br>br>You'd think a gaming keyboard would have key coatings tough enough to withstand heavy, rapid key press abuse. It's a pity that it's only been six months. This could be a quality control oversight, but if so, the Ornata clearly has QC issues; this is the second time in less than a year that something has gone wrong with a brand new Ornata. br>I wouldn't mind so much if this was a $30 keyboard. However, a keyboard with a $100 MSRP cannot have quality issues, let alone replacement shipping that is as slow as it is.

Good, but there are a few major caveats
3/5

Okay, it's a good keyboard, and I'll break it down into its various components. br>br>FUNDAMENTALITY: br>br>FUNDAMENTALITY: br>br> I'd never had to lubricate a keyboard before, let alone one that was practically new out of the box, so this was where I ran into problems. On q-, I was using teflon spray for the first time. Within two weeks, you will have a tip. Come on, Razer, you know what I'm talking about. You're scrimping on the lube on a $90 keyboard? They were using a viscosity that was far too high, and the keys were sticking. When you add a dab of teflon, it works like new and is much smoother. br>br>RGB LIGHTING: br>br> Individual color coding is great for hotkeys across multiple games because there is such a large selection of colors to choose from. SOFTWARE: BR>BR>SOFTWARE: BR>BR>SOFTWARE: BR>BR>SOFTWARE: DISTURBING. BAD is an understatement. Basic color coding and other such things are fine, but advanced lighting effects clash. When I tried stacking two wave effects in a relatively simple manner, it wouldn't adjust the speed for whichever was on the bottom layer, causing the sync to be thrown off. Other: br>br>Other: br>br>Other: br>br>Oth The wrist rest is COMFORTABLE, but it's also very delicate. The faux leather coating has already started to deteriorate after only a few weeks. However, I really like the cord management; there are three slots beneath the keyboard that allow you to direct the wire to the left, right, or back. br>br>Conclusion: br>br> It's a good keyboard; despite the lubrication issues, I like the tactile click, and it's not as loud as traditional mechanical switches. All of this is to say that my next keyboard will be from Corsair. I've been a fan of Razer since they first came out, and I've seen their product quality deteriorate over time, so it's probably time for me to find a new favorite gaming brand.

It has a Magnetic Wrist-Rest, which is actually MAGNETIC! When it didn't come attached to the keyboard, I was a little disappointed; I assumed it would slide around a lot, but when I nudged it up to the keyboard, I discovered it was magnetic
5/5

br>br>This keyboard is smooth. The keys make noise, but it's not loud or obnoxious in any way, as the other reviews have stated. br>br>When you press the keys, the click is actually a little satisfying to the touch. br>br>I've never had a bad experience with Razer. br>Let me tell you a quick story about my experience, and you'll understand why I'm such a fan: br>br>The gamepads (Razer Orbweaver Chroma) are one of my favorites. br>Well, I had one where the wrist-pad was sent with an excessive amount of sticky-tape. The rubber pad gradually slid off the gamepad due to the excessive paste. It was inconvenient, and after two years, the pad would not stay on, so I took it off. br>Even though I was past the warranty's expiration date (2 days), I sent them an email informing them of the issue. They couldn't even verify that I was telling the truth because I had already thrown away the rubber pad. "Send it in, and we'll send you a brand new gamepad," they said. br>Razer makes great products, and their support team is even better when something goes wrong.

Great keyboard; I've been very pleased with it thus far, but there is one annoyance
5/5

The keys have been "transposed" (to use a technical term). Consider the following scenario. If you're interested in learning more about the "? " key - This key usually has a "? " in it. " appears above the "/," indicating that a "Shift" is required. All "Shift" keys are labeled BELOW the standard character on this keyboard.
