In order to do the work I do, I need an RS232 port. A few years ago, I would like to purchase it for an old laptop. After I downloaded and set up my software (a C++ compiler) for this new port, it worked on the spot and I was off to the races. Those are the kinds of products I'm looking for. It works right out of the box, no need for special settings. Each one is worth a 5 star rating.
I have multiple adapters which are based on the Prolific PL2303 protocol which failed to I was able to use this adapter with the driver included in the package! It's also fun to have the lights blinking at the TX and RX!! reviews of the drivers supplied (on tiny DVD) have discounted their usefulness, but I found them to be helpful.
Hell, also known as Hellschreiber, and several other digital modes are available. With Windows XP and Vista, Prolific cables and drivers worked just fine, but with Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit), they wouldn't operate. I would freeze my PC after a few seconds when using MixW or Ham Radio Deluxe or even Digital Master 780, which is also built into Ham Radio Deluxe, or sometimes get the blue screen of death crashing my computer. It is amazing how wonderful they are - so much better than I expected. With a Dell 17R (N7010) laptop, I can sit it pretty close to the radio right now, but on a desktop PC, I would have needed a significantly longer cable than what is provided here unless the CPU and radio were placed on the same table. You would probably not be able to fit your computer beneath the table where the radio is if you tried to sit it on the floor. There are also longer ones available on Amazon, but they are more expensive. To use a HDMI cable on the Yaesu FT-110 I had to buy an adaptor that converts the HDMI cable to a male DB9 connector Since Yaesu is the odd man out in the amateur radio industry and installed a CAT port on their radio, whereas everyone else uses a female CAT port on their radio, we have the "1000MP Mark V". In order to use the old West Mountain Radio Rigblaster M8, I also needed to purchase a DB9 female to DB25 male adapter. There are USB ports installed on most newer models of digital interfaces and HF radios, and many newer digital interfaces currently available have USB ports. Furthermore, you can buy interfaces that have their own built-in sound cards, which eliminates the necessity of running audio cables between a PC and an interface.
It is likely we are all familiar with the FTDI chips as we work in embedded systems. Almost all operating systems, including Mac, Linux, and Windows, support these programs. I ordered a USB/RS-232 converter when I needed it Having tried a RS232 cable and not finding what I was looking for, the idea clicked that I could look for one that used the FTDI chip family I already have drivers for all Since there haven't been any reviews on this product, I thought I would give it my first impression. I found it after searching on Amazon for "FTDI. ". I have only just received it, but since no one has reviewed it, I thought I'd share mine. I had already installed the FTDI drivers, so it was compatible with the ones I already had, so I did not need to download any additional drivers. The drivers included with it were on ones of those annoying (and, on my machine, unusable) mini- CDs, so it is a good thing they weren't there The unit does not include a CD, so it only earns four out of five stars.
Overall, the unit is nicely built. With an LED activity indicator, it's very easy to keep track of your usage. For the DB-1000, the electronics are enclosed in a translucent blue shell The board is only nine, and is just a tad on the bulky side. This shouldn't be an issue normally, but if you had a tight squeeze on your serial port, it might
I'm very happy with my purchase, and will order a few more to have on hand. If you need drivers and cannot use the mini-cat, you can purchase them at http//www. pcpartpicker. com There are no restrictions on the CDs you can buy directly from FTDI The operating system may be either Mac OS X or Linux. It seems like this would be a good option if you need an usb/serial cable, especially if you run Mac or Linux.
My experience with them is that they work great at 250Kbps or less. There is currently an advertisement on the existing site that claims the device utilizes a ZT232E transceiver that is capable of 920Kbps (at least, that is what I assume "Ultra Fast 920K ZyWyn ZT232E" means). It turns out the unit I received has a ZT213LEEA, which is only rated at It should also be noted that the ZT232E is only rated for 250K, while the ZT232F is rated for As far as other aspects are concerned, the units work well.
In spite of their claim, I was not able to get them to connect under Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit or Mac OS Lion, even with the the latest drivers. This item does work perfectly under both Windows 7 64bit and Mac OS Lion, as well. In both, I've been able to install and test it. There is no need to install drivers for Windows 7, since it will be detected automatically and the drivers will be downloaded. Upon installing Mac Lion, you will need to either install the included drivers or download the FTDI drivers from their website. The USB device is listed under the USB devices list under Lion, and it has been added to Serial and USB under Windows. I am quite pleased with this and would highly recommend it to others. Bottom line, it works for all current versions of Mac Lion and Windows 7 64bit as mentioned, so I am very pleased.
So far, there have been no issues. I bought this product to replace my older Prolific PL2303 Although the old adapter is still working great and has been passed on to a coworker, it's getting harder and harder to find a real Prolific today with all the cheap knockoffs that don't work. Since I would rather avoid that whole headache, I decided to buy this FTDI adapter instead. If you want to use it, ignore the CD that comes with it and instead download the FTDI drivers. As of this point, I have not encountered any issues with the drivers or the hardware.
