I bought it for a few dives I had planned where I wouldn't be able to use my dslr. br>Because I was unaware of the existence of this tray, I was dreading having to start over with trays and light arms. When I finally found this tray, I was overjoyed to discover that it came with all of my arms and other mounting hardware from my previous gear. To switch to this tray, I simply took my go pro out of its regular housing, attached it to this tray, and then transferred my light arms over using the quick release. It's that easy. br>After a few dives, I'm thinking about getting rid of the lower grip because I'm almost exclusively using the side grips. I guess I just stuck to what I knew and was comfortable with. I upgraded to a metal tripod adapter for the GoPro before diving. I've had a few of the plastic adapters break in the past, so upgrading seemed necessary, but I'm not sure if the mount included with this tray is any more reliable. Underwater, the complete setup (GoPro Hero 4 Black, dual Sola 1200s, and dual light) The locline arms (motion locline arms) were "basically" buoyant. It was only a minor blemish on the negative, but it was noticeable. If I let go, the entire setup would hover for a split second before slowly sinking into the salt water. br>Overall, this has been a great addition to my travel gear because it can be disassembled and packed easily.
For the Hero style camera, this is an excellent tray. The handgrip surprised me because I didn't think I'd like it, but it's fine.
It's well-made, and all you need are a couple of lights to get started. This is what I use to record diving videos with my GoPro.
I'm hoping it's a one-time thing. After the first use, the GoPro mount that came with it and was installed broke. The thread inside the mount had broken, and half of it remained stuck to the mounting screw, making removal difficult. It was inconvenient because I had three more dives left on my trip. A higher-quality go pro mount, such as the all-aluminum one that came with a recent selfie stick purchase, is required.
For the GoPro setup, this is a fantastic option. It provides a solid foundation and plenty of light system connections; I plan to use it for larger still photography systems in the future.
