I think this would be a great addition to an Its solid compression, extra thick graphite carbon tubes, and stable mounting in a 75 mm socket make it a great addition to my RT-90 There are three versions of a tripod 90C. The top of the camera will need to have a ball head to give it some kind of gimbaled action. In actuality, the RT90 bowl gimbal is limited in movement, but may be used for heavy loads because it is very stable. In most cases, I prefer to keep it there since it is quick to adjust angles and viewing positions. There is an adapter on the 90 that allows it to accommodate taller people than me This is a nice addition, but not necessary for tripods that go high enough as this would be for tripods that go not so high. If your application only requires simple height translation rather than the tripod legs being adjusted then this would be a great addition. With it I mounted a rather large 60 mm spotting scope which was extremely stable, and even mounted a 20+ pound rifle (with all the torque such mounting adds), which also was very stable. It is recommended that you use the center column, but do not overlook the versatility of the 75 mm bowl gimbal that comes included.
Since I have been using both this accessory and the tripod that goes with it for just a short period of time, I have to say this is among the most stable center columns I have used among much more expensive competitors. It's diameter dictated how large it would be and it actually When fiddling with the camera controls, there was no pronounced shaking when I had it fully extended while photographing a waterfall. It was impossible for me to say this about my previous tripod -- a much smaller and cheaper one which was noticeably shakey when I was 15 years old when I took this picture It would be less noticeable even towards the 15mm end of the 85mm lens, which is inherently less shake-prone. When you are on stable ground, then you have a firm base for the whole time you are carrying The only thing that I can find wrong with this center column is the spacing. To put it simply, if you want to see your composition at full extension, you should have a fully articulating screen, or at least be near a high rock, or bring a step stool, since at 6'2", I couldn't see anything without it. This is not really a negative though, as this was one of the many reasons I bought the tripod and this center column in particular.
The lights are not bright, but they provide you with a very good height to get over people and provide a different perspective.
