Color correction of magnified images at eight magnifications is provided by a forward-facing nosepiece with 4x, 10x, 40xS (spring), and 100xS (spring, oil) DIN achromatic objectives.

What kind of microscope would be appropriate for an adult who wants to learn more about the world around them, including biological specimens?

This has been a fantastic one for us at home, as we work with children of various ages. It may not be of the same high quality as those used in university laboratories, but it is quite nice and should suffice for a novice investigator.

Is there any blank slides, cover slips, immersion oil, dust cover, or lens paper included in the package?

It included a dust cover and immersion oil (in a small bottle). Slides, cover slips, and lens paper are not included in the price.

A beautiful scope for the price

I use slightly larger scopes when teaching college, but this one is just as nice. Very good optics. The book, on the other hand, is quite nice! It was purchased primarily for my children, but it has proven to be extremely useful in terms of coming up with small experiments and project ideas.
