This camera adapter extends the inner threads of the camera into the 1/4 inch mounting threads. The spring loaded 3/8" adaptor slides into place and needs to be pressed down to extend the smaller threads. There is no obvious way to remove the 'adaptor', so if an unsuspecting person tries to remove it, it won't come off. ((Each time, Amazon, request this vendor provide this information to the new purchaser.

Push it down to make it go You did a really good job designing that. Thanks for the design, but the word "spring" should be spelled out somewhere on it. It can be on the top plate, anywhere, or it can be on the bottom plate. I just see this as a warning for idiots like me who try removing the bushing. By the way! I am amazed at the toughness of this thing! Though my wrist is sore from trying to pull this off, the spring and all the working parts are still there! This is a great product that I can use in my business. The 3/8 bushing adapter was attached to it, but it did not come with the 3/8 bushing. There is no way to remove it. The top of this adapter does not feature a flat head notch as you would find on other similar The adapter is too difficult for me to remove, so I will have to return the product as it is unusable for me, since I need 1/4 - inch. My only wish would have been for this product not to come with the bushing adapter installed so I could buy it from another manufacturer.
The purpose of this extender was to increase the depth of 1/4th a little bit by 1/4th. An adaptor for 3/8th to 1/4th bushings was provided that was easy to install. I found the extender to be very well made and of very good quality. The only problem was that the adaptor for the 3/8th bushing would not come off. In my morbid curiosity for the adaptor, I realized that no amount of finger pressure or even protected pliers grip would be capable of removing it. Even though it's only $24, it is still a good price. As a result, I shaved away two sides of the 3/8 adapter with a grinder. As a result, I clamped the edges in a vice and used a vice to twist them Sorry, but nope! My adapter had snapped at that point, so I ground the stud into two halves and tried to remove the adapter I still haven't made it. If you are looking for a 1/4 to 3/8th extender, this one is highly recommended for its build quality. However, if you want 1/4th to 1/4th, you should look for something else.
It works well once you get the adapter to spring once you have it mounted. It would be great if there was a little piece of paper in the box explaining this.
