Selected User Reviews For SVBONY SV116 Guiding Scope Ring Kit for Telescope Tube Diameter or Finders 43mm to 70mm with Pair Ideal for astrophotography
Even more than photographic equipment, astronomical goodies have exorbitant price tags that leave you wondering what exactly justifies the cost. Accessories like the Sybony SV116 scope ring kit provide a cost-effective alternative without sacrificing quality. You'll need a metric Allen wrench to put this kit together because it comes unassembled. Standing the base on end while tightening the screws makes it relatively simple to square the rings and base. The rings are solid aluminum castings with raised areas for additional threads to pass through when the screws are inserted. The screws are M5 with nylon tips to keep whatever you mount in the rings from getting marred. The mount is sturdy and solid once it's put together. I bought the kit to use with a 50mm Celestron RACI finder, but I had to change one of the rings to an 8mm hole to get the indents in the finder tube to line up properly. M6, M8,1/4-inch holes are shown on the diagram. M8, M20, and M6 are a few of the most popular. The M8 holes are all numbered one. M6 threads appear to be the much less common 0. 25mm thread pitch. Pitch: 75 mm M6- Screws with a diameter of 0mm will not be able to be used. Because the M5 socket head screws that hold the rings in place pass through these holes, you won't be able to use at least one of them for anything else. I've bought a few Svbony accessories and haven't been disappointed, especially considering that the same items are frequently rebranded and sold for twice as much or more.
Machined and finished to a high standard. If it comes up at this price again, I will buy it. Shipping was very quick. My only complaint is that the centering screws are excessively long. True, it allows for the use of smaller diameter tubes, but anything less than a 55mm barrel finder looks ridiculous. Why would you use 70mm rings on a finder with such a small diameter? This was purchased because my existing finder mount could only accommodate finders with a maximum diameter of 52mm. br>br>The long screws, combined with the barrel-shaped heads, protrude far too far out in terms of aesthetics. It appears to be a joke. When moving the instrument, it was all too easy to catch on a doorframe, bending one screw. I ended up drilling out the screw holes, helicoiling them, and replacing them with short SAE cap screws with flat Shear-Lock shear-Lock shear-Lock shear-Lock shear-Lock shear-Lock shear-Lock shear- Knobs that lock in place. Instead of just selling this one large mount, Svbony should offer at least one other size for smaller diameter finder barrels. It works well with 60mm objectives on finders and scopes. A finder with a focal length of 50 mm? It's getting a little out of hand. Yes, it works, but it appears to be out of proportion. Aesthetics matter if you care about the quality of your machining and finish. br>br>With my finder's 64mm barrel diameter, this ring mount with shorter screws and flatter knobs works and looks great. There's a lot of room to adjust the centering. Any scope larger than a 60mm short scope will be too large for a small finder dovetail. It might work mechanically, but the dovetail mount's small mounting area would likely damage whatever it's mounted on if the scope it's carrying was bumped in the dark.
I now have several for various scopes and finders, and I find them to be far more reliable in terms of holding their positions than the dreadful Synta finders. It's worth noting that the "foot" on Orion, Sky-Watcher isn't quite as wide as the standard shoe of the Chinese-made finders. Watcher and Celestron scopes (made by Synta) are the most popular, but almost any mating bracket will do-- However, every now and then, you'll come across a bracket with a tightening screw that's a fraction of an inch shorter than usual, necessitating the replacement of a slightly longer one.
These rings did an excellent job of remounting my Orion 50 mm guide scope.
It was a little difficult to align the rings with the dovetail base; it would have been much easier if the base had a shallow slot for indexing the rings. br>Other than that, it was fine, with the nylon buttons at the clamping screw ends being a nice touch.
This is what I used to mount my old Tasco 60mm refractor on my 6 inch telescope. Scientific Newt is a fascinating creature. as a spotting scope or a more compact scope I reinforced the mount with washers inside the reflector tube because the Tasco is a little too long for the job. Great!.
The Celestron mount that came with my finder scope was replaced by this scope ring. When I bumped the original mount, it would never stay aligned, so I had to realign every time I wanted to watch something. This set-up is ideal and extremely durable. I'm so happy I purchased it!.
SVBONY (do you know how to pronounce that? ) is a well-known manufacturer of high-end accessories. I'm not sure I'd buy their cameras or eyepieces, but their aluminum attachments are a lot less expensive than what the major telescope manufacturers charge.
