R3 upgrades it to include GPS tracking. You can use it to mark red light cameras or speed traps. You can also prevent false alarms in common areas by locking them out.
I've only used the power cord, but from what I've heard, it can be set up to charge so you can go cordless.
Yes, if the third-party seller is a licensed dealer.
Because the best buy does not include a smart cord, it is less expensive.

So, if you're looking for an unbiased opinion, you've come to the right place. My name is Joe, and I'm just a regular guy. I'm a techie who enjoys having the latest and greatest, and I've been using radar detectors for over 15 years. I know which detectors are a waste of money and which ones are worthwhile. There's a cop who sits on the interstate almost every day, and he runs the K and KA bands, and he's usually in the same spot. To be honest, it picks him up just as well as my old 8500 X50 did. I've yet to witness the magical distance that these people who have a vested interest in selling you one of these detectors claim. They'll tell you that this is going to blow the X50 away. That I am not convinced of. Since getting this device, I've had a lot of real-life experiences. Things I enjoy- the same level of sensitivity as I am used to. The OLED display is a welcome change from the V1 and X50 I previously owned. I like how you can customize the radar bands with your own tones. I'm used to having a power cord with a mute button. It's safer than trying to silence it by reaching up to the windshield. With the K band filter turned on, the filtering is quite good. Even with the filter turned on, it activates/falses in nearly all of the same places that my X50 and V1 did. So, with the exception of TSR rejection, I simply turn off the filters. It doesn't bother me because I'm used to wearing false teeth in the same places. I'm not a fan of locking out with GPS. In my town, there are cops who sit right where I pick up the typical false signal and run radar. Using GPS to lock yourself out could have serious consequences. It's helpful to know if you're being hit by multiple bands of radar, which bands are hitting you, and how powerful each band is. It's similar to Escort's "expert mode. " " To be honest, I haven't seen anything with the R1 that is significantly better than the previous Escort and V1 detectors I've owned in terms of range. With those detectors, I was able to pick up both police K and KA (all variations) from a considerable distance. If someone who previously owned a mediocre detector purchases this, they will undoubtedly be pleased with the range. It would have gotten all five stars if it had completely blown me away, as all the reviewers who have a financial incentive to rave about it will do. I'll update the review if I have any unusually large extreme range detection with this R1 in the future.
A Uniden radar detector was about as effective as putting a jelly donut on your dashboard 20 years ago. X-ray of my passport I figured it was time for a new detector because 70 had been around for a while. When I read the detector reviews, it seemed like the Bel Redline killer was the only thing on everyone's mind. The R1 and R3 are two new scanners from Uniden. After doing some research, it became clear that Uniden had completely missed the mark with these units. Because my factory GPS is programmed for red light and speed cameras, I went with the R1. Following a journey along the I-95, 90 in upstate New York, I can attest to the fact that this detector works! On the ka band, it's insane! I was getting a couple miles warning from the NYSP with constant on ka. Detection in the K band is also better than any of my other detectors. I like that it can be updated with new firmware. Uniden's customer service and firmware updates are excellent. The best part was the price; nothing else in this price range even comes close to this unit's performance. This unit is on par with the $500 units in terms of performance. In most cases, it outperforms them. Another plus was that I had previously hardwired my passport/Bel detector and was able to reuse the same cable! There is no new setup. My purchase has made me extremely happy.
After perusing the fantastic RDForum, I've come to the conclusion that the best bang-for-your-buck is for- the- The Uniden R1 would be the best bang for your buck if it didn't have the premium features (most notably GPS support). I was completely correct. br>br>First and foremost, the RX65 era bit me on the arse when it came to false alerts. Modern cars with features such as Radar Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitoring, Cross Traffic Alerts, and Reverse Sensors, among others, cause older units to freak out and provide a lot of false K-points. Alerts from the band. The Uniden R1 does not have this problem. True, some door openers still do, but I've memorized the ones on my route. br>br>From a great distance, the unit has been flawless in detecting KA band speed traps and patrol cars. It easily outperforms the RX65. On a forested four-lane expressway, I received a mile warning, and on regular highways, I received a mile and a half warning. You have a lot of time to slow down. br>br>Take your time setting up the device, either using RDForums or the Vortex Radar Youtube guide, and make sure to check for any firmware updates before using it. The R3 is definitely a step up if you want GPS features like red light camera warnings and door opener lockouts. However, if you still use Waze for navigation, the R1 is an excellent upgrade.
