Questions & Answers

Is it better to keep the radar on your windshield high or low?

When it comes to radar range, it's best to put it up high, but it can reduce laser range.

Is it possible to use this detector in the United States?

No, it will not work in the United Kingdom. At the very least, it won't pick up on Europe's Ku band radar.

In miles, how far can a device be detected?

Of course, it will depend on the terrain as well as the band in use. When we were out in the middle of nowhere, I was getting pings from a deputy sheriff vehicle with Ka band a few miles ahead of me. I hadn't used a radar detector in a long time before purchasing this one, but it's come in handy on several occasions. Extremely fragile.

Is it better to keep the radar on your windshield high or low?

Low so that the laser signal aimed at your license plate can be captured as much as possible.

The product is garbage, and the return policy is garbage as well
3/5

For the past 40 days, I've been using this product. The radar detector's speaker stopped working after 35 days. I won't be able to return it because it only has a 30-day return policy. Amazon has yet to return my call regarding this matter. My recommendation is to go to Best Buy rather than Amazon to purchase one. You have a better return policy and are almost always successful in resolving the issue. I'm not happy.

Prior to purchasing, I researched and compared
5/5

For more than a month, I've been using this detector. It's already repaid itself. It's extremely sensitive, but I don't mind if it occasionally sends out a false signal. It's easy to set it off with Dollar General stores. With the whistles, beeps, and dings, I've figured out what it's trying to say. From now on, I will always carry a detector. I went through a thousand reviews before making my decision. Both advantages and disadvantages are discussed. Value. At a distance. I'm glad I splurged on this one. I don't require any additional tickets. All I do is drive very quickly.

There is no way to control the volume
3/5

It's been a few months since I got it. It's a detector that's extremely sensitive and precise. The issue I'm having is that when I set the volume low, it automatically gives audible warnings at maximum volume as soon as it detects a maximum signal. This irritates me greatly. This option should be customizable for the price because it is not suitable for sleeping babies and other similar situations. On my PC, I attempted to update the firmware. The utility program, on the other hand, is never aware of it. Every USB cable I had was put to the test. It's also small. Micro-USB rather than USB USB, like the majority of today's products. I spent a lot of money on something I'm not sure I want to keep installed. Uniden used to be a good brand, but I'm going to sell it and try something else because I'm disappointed.

It does the job, and it does it well! It was well worth the money! I'm still getting used to the signals and learning how to read them
5/5

I get alerts from miles away, and at first I wondered if it was worth the bother and questioned the accuracy, but I no longer have any doubts. I've discovered that the alerts' intensity is proportional to their proximity/strength, and I can "see" them getting stronger as I get closer to the location. I travel on US and state highways on a weekly basis, passing through small towns, and it's not uncommon for the officer to have left by the time I arrive at the location where he or she was. But, because I drive the same route to and from a large city, I'm getting to know "the spots. " An alert was sent to me from a distance of over three miles. Due to topography, the signal would fade in and out, but when it returned, it grew stronger, eventually sounding "urgent," and I was still unable to locate the officer. Until I came to a sweeping curve at the top of a slight rise. It also picks up signals reflected off vehicles traveling in the same direction as me but a long way behind me. Obviously, they are weaker, but I understand where they are coming from because I drove past the location and saw the officer.

Bad Unit
3/5

One of the worst radar detectors has an annoying ritual of beeps and noises that it has to go through every time it turns on. My old 9500 xi blocks it off because this unit doesn't learn the locations of fixed radar setups. It's very difficult to set up, and you almost have to set it to City to avoid all of the false signals. I'm going to stick with my Uniden 9500 xi for the time being.

Oh, for the love of God, This creature is a monster! In the last decade or two, I haven't had a radar dector
4/5

In this day and age, I asked a friend if he had or knew of a good one. He didn't do it, but his pal did! He said it was a Uniden R3. So, after debating between it and the Radenso XP, I went ahead and purchased one. It's like something out of Star Trek, coming from the Cobra 6 band! br>br> It has insane range, ranging from a quarter of a mile to up to a mile! I don't always see the cop because the range is so good. If you have a lead foot, there will be plenty of opportunity to slow down. br>br>Wow, this thing has a lot of options! The customization options are insane, almost as if it were a Samsung phone. I just leave the defaults because it's fairly quiet. I tried messing with the settings once and it made the thing more chatty, so I reset it to default. Maybe it's just where I live, because I always run it on highway mode. City mode, on the other hand, seems to work fine. br>br>I gave it four stars because it does not include a USB cable for firmware updates. When it comes to firmware, mine came with version 1. 48 as well as version one As of this writing, the most recent version is 50. I went from v1 to v2. It appears to be a lot more chatty at 50. I believe 50 was supposed to fix some bugs, but it appears to have given me more. v1 is said to be the first version. 52 is in the works, and I'm hoping it will make mine as quiet as v1. I'll downgrade to 1 if I don't get 48 points. You can do that with 48 because it allows you to. br>br>Upgrading is a pain because you have to download the installer, install the installer's drivers, connect it to your PC via a USB cable that you must purchase separately, then run the installer and load the firmware package into it. Whew! br>br>Overall, it's an excellent value for money detector! It's something I recommend, and I think you should as well.

WINDOW MOUNTING EQUIPMENT IS EXTREMELY POOR, despite the good detector
3/5

The radar detector was one of my favorites. It appears to be successful. Uniden sold me a windshield mount with a big suction cup. I worked once, and when I removed it and attempted to replace it on the window, it stayed in place for about an hour before falling off, every time. The windshield mount is terrible. So I experimented with the bracket's small suction cups. Those are at least three days stuck to the window. It will take 4 hours for them to fall off. When I contacted Uniden, they said they would replace both of them. The package I received was at best a joke, and they never replaced the large suction cup, instead sending me two small clear suction cups that could not hold anything. I tossed them and replaced them with window suction cups from a competitor, which have worked flawlessly since. I'm never going to buy another Uniden. Over the years, I've owned BEL, Whistler, and Escort radar detectors. I've never had a computer with such severe hardware problems.
