After the baffle is placed precisely in the opening, the speaker is dropped into the baffle, followed by speaker screws that are passed through the lip of the baffle to secure not only the speaker down, but also the baffles in place.
My guess would be about 4 or 5 inches. I put some MB quarts on it and it essentially fit perfectly. I made a small hole and filled it with silicone to seal the hole once the wires ran through it. But they are working properly now.

I have read on the internet that car door speakers are designed to work with what is called "an infinite baffle. " I may be wrong, but that is my understanding. In essence, this means that they shouldn't be placed inside a tightly enclosed space (such as this one) as the tightly enclosed area can generate positive air pressure (for instance, on an inward stroke), generating resistance to the movement of the surface. What everyone generally agrees on at this point is that if you cut off the bottom half of the baffle, or if you poke a hole in these, they make excellent rain hoods to protect your speakers from water damage should rain make its way past your door's rain seal. The uses are precisely what I used these for and I am satisfied with them for those purposes. My aftermarket speakers won't be soaked after driving in the rain. I'm sure that this isn't the intended application, but it'll make me feel better knowing that the next time it rains, I won't have to replace them.
I LOVE your sound! If you don't have a baffle, enclosure, or sealed deck area, you MUST purchase this if you intend to mount a speaker without the benefit of a baffle, enclosure, or rear deck access. Listen again to them after you add these to the rear of the ones you currently have. If you don't believe me, I advise you to add a pair of these to the back of the ones you've probably already mounted. You will notice a world of difference when you do so. For someone who truly enjoys their music, it would absolutely make sense to get these for any stereo system they have a need for. Adding these to your car audio speakers will help if you do not have speaker enclosures on your other speakers. Additionally, it is a good distributor! The pieces I ordered were delivered by the expected delivery date and came with other pieces of my order. I was able to install everything on time. We were not able to get the other stuff we ordered. Inside as well as outside, we apply deadening mat liberally. Using my new 6" tamper-proof baffles behind it, we were able to create a better sound. These are size 5s and they've got the perfect fit. The only hole I punched through during wiring was so I could get the best protection, and I did not notice any loss of sound quality during the process (or at least not in my application). A high degree of sound quality is heard in the vehicle no matter what time of day it is. By reducing vibrations from the speakers, the speaker area around the speaker will be less likely to rattle, and the sounds will be directed much.
The speaker baffles do not work, even after I added them to my six speakers, they left a rattling sound. A negative aspect ZERO STARS due to the high price because it's a basic design and construction is way to fragile, they puncture easily and don't last long due to their weak construction.
To protect my speakers from further rusting and water damage, I bought these closed cell foam speaker baffles. An older truck I own typically has vent wing windows that allow more water to leak inside the door than ventless windows. The door panels are covered with upholstery. I am not sure if they actually improve the sound since I hid my speakers behind them. If you plan on using either of these, make sure you have enough room within your door. With a depth of 3" to 3 1/4" and a diameter of 4 1/2", they are slightly tapered and have a 3" to 3 1/4" depth. Even though the foam is quite thick, it compresses down when tightened. In my case, I used Pioneer 6 or 6 1/2" 3 way speakers, and they fitted pretty well inside. As far as protecting them is concerned, they should do a great job.
