Questions & Answers

I use a condenser microphone from AudioTechnica, model 350. Will this be a good option for boosting it for mobile recording, or would a different mic be a better alternative?

Yes! It's something I use on my Aston Origin large condensers! I prefer Aston because it is the most affordable condenser mic with virtually no floor noise, white noise, or hiss. This can be a problem if you're recording natural sounds. Best wishes to you.

For the SM58, which fethead do I need?

Since a sm58 does not require power, a regular fet head can be used.

Will using the phantom fethead in conjunction with my Scarlett 2i2 audio interface (which provides 48v phantom power) increase the mic power of my cardiod mic?

Yes, it boosts the signal to make it a little louder and a little cleaner. It doesn't make much of a difference if your preamp is clean, but if your preamp is noisy, this can help boost the levels significantly.

Is it possible to use this model with a condenser tube microphone?

Yes, this is designed for low-output powered condenser microphones because it allows power to pass through. The other Fetheads are designed to be used with dynamic microphones.

Use a Rode NTG-100 with a regular Fethead (NOT this one)
4/5

I'm giving it four stars because that's the average rating for this product at the time of writing, and I don't want my opinion to sway the outcome. br>br>I bought the Fethead Phantom to use in the field, along with a Zoom H4N and a Rode NTG-100. This Zoom/Rode combo is known for producing low output levels, so when I learned about the Fethead, I decided to give it a shot. br>br>When I got it, I noticed that the Fethead was *adding* a lot of noise to my recordings! After reading other reviews that said they frequently shipped DOA, I assumed that was the case and exchanged it for a new one through Amazon. The replacement, on the other hand, was having the same issue. Triton actually recommends using a REGULAR Fethead (not the Phantom) with the Rode NTG-100. 2. Using a battery instead of phantom power for the microphone. Because it isn't mentioned anywhere else on this page, I wanted to make a note of it in case any other NTG-related issues arise. There are 2 people who have visited this page. I'm going to purchase a regular Fethead and will report back on my experience.

Only when I connect the Fethead to an AT2035 do I hear hiss
3/5

The interface does not receive any audio. The Fethead is not connected to the phantom power, and the mic works perfectly without it. D appears to be the case. br>br> It's a shame, because Triton has gotten a lot of good press. I sincerely hoped for a D. The problem was not as widespread as some reviews suggest. br>br>I'm undecided about whether I want to reorder from Kellards through Amazon or go through an authorized dealer. br>br>I've made contact with Kellards. I'll keep you updated if anything happens. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ and came back to me br>br>The Kellards Phantoms I ordered had signs of physical wear and tear. Each one had a chipped matte finish on the center ring. The units themselves were filthy, and they appeared to have been handled and used. "New" was written on the tube's label. I'm not sure what to make of it. Kellards appears to be a reputable company. br>br> I'm not blaming them because the chain leading to my front door has several links. Although it's difficult to pinpoint the source of the problem, I've enlisted the help of Triton Audio. When the Fethead Phantoms are at their best, they sound fantastic. I'm just hoping to get something that works. br>br>All I hear is hiss, and no audio is sent to the interface. I tried a variety of condenser microphones and even swapped cables and ports on the mixer, but nothing worked. Without the Phantom in the chain, everything runs smoothly. I experimented with different interfaces as well as a public address system. Because I've used the Fethead Phantoms before, I know they're great, so this isn't the norm. The Testing Equipment: br>br>

I sincerely hope that this rating will be improved. For dynamic mics, I've had great success with the Fethead Standard. With the same testing equipment as the sE DM1 Dynamite, it outperformed it. I'm confident that if I can get a working Phantom version, I'll be just as happy. br>br>In addition, I received a response from Kellards, who stated that they are an authorized dealer of Triton products. They're also listed on Triton Audio's website, which is encouraging. After the last Phantom was returned, I messaged them again to explain my situation. I'm currently awaiting a reply.

The feedback is reliable
4/5

This thing is incredible. I absolutely adore it. I have an ASMR phantom powered mic, so I had to get two of these - One was defective, but I simply returned it to Amazon and received a replacement that works perfectly. I'm very pleased with the improvement in sound quality; the noise floor has been significantly reduced. They work with my mixer and my H4N, and they drastically improve everything. br>br>Definitely worth the purchase; just be aware that if it arrives DOA (as it did to at least one other reviewer besides myself), the return process is quick and painless; no worries, I had a new one in a few days and the return went through without a hitch.

The noise floor of the shotgun mic on the H4N zoom recorder was reduced thanks to the use of a small inline preamp
5/5

This preamp was purchased to accompany my Zoom H4N recorder. I like how it performs and how it allows me to lower the input levels on my recorder to reduce or eliminate hiss. When I used a Boya PVM-100, I noticed a significant reduction in noise level. Shotgun mic with 1000 shots I also gave it a shot with a microphone. I experimented with the Technica AT875R shotgun and discovered that by adjusting the levels, I could improve off-axis rejection or make it extremely hot, extending the range. The FetHead also served as an adapter, allowing me to connect the mic to the H4n without the use of a cable, which was a nice bonus. This is a great little hand-held foley recorder.

It would be fantastic if it was dependable
3/5

I ordered a fethead phantom to connect my scarlett solo to my se electronics x1s condenser microphone. The first five hours felt like a dream, but then the phantom fethead died. This is a miracle device when it works and a complete waste of money when it doesn't. I did an exchange, got the replacement in, and it died within two hours. Now that I've experienced the quality that a real preamp can add to my sound, I'll be saving up for a real one, most likely a rack mount, but I won't be wasting any more of my time on the fethead phantom. br>br>Ps the seller MZ Photo was fantastic; it's not their fault that Triton Audio has produced an unreliable product.

Both of the units had failed to function
3/5

I was hoping for a successful outcome. I've read and seen a lot of positive feedback. My first unit, unfortunately, was dead on arrival. It didn't pick up any sound from the microphone. When I used phantom power, however, I was able to hear a local radio station. I know, it's a little strange. On the second try, I'm hoping for a better result. br>br>I also have a FetHead for my (non-fetish) fetish fetish fetish fetish fetish fetish fetish feti Dynamic microphones (phantom) – It's also very functional. br>br>A week later, here's an update: Despite the fact that the tube stated 'New,' the second unit arrived DOA and appeared to be in used condition. I asked for a refund and returned the item. I'm not sure if this was a bad batch or if Triton has issues with quality control. br>br>Does anyone actually test these before they leave the factory?.
