With the USB-C port on my 2019 MacBook Pro, I was unable to charge this. I wish I'd read the other MacBook Pro 16 answer here before returning this, because there are other reports of the same issue on the Apple community forums. I wish I'd read the other MacBook Pro 16 answer here before returning this. I already own a USB flash drive. This was a drive that I could use with an adapter on a single port, so it was of no use to me.
Yes. All USB ports are backwards compatible, i.e. USB 1. 0 will work with USB 2 and 3 but at a reduced speed, and USB 3 will do the same. Older versions of 0 don't work.
I've tried it on both Mojave and Sierra, and it works fine on both. I'm not familiar with the new Catalina, but since it's a MacOs, it should be fine.
yes. It's an external hard drive that works in the same way as a hard drive on a desktop computer.

For my late-model Mac Mini, I purchased this drive. Unfortunately, it can only read some disks. I tried reading the "problem" disks on two different drives, and both of them were able to do so. To be fair, the "problem" disks did have a few minor scratches, but I don't want a drive that only reads "perfect" disks. I tried chatting with an ASUS tech support agent, but he was unable to resolve the issue. Also, according to the tech agent, this unit does not have a firmware update. I've arranged for it to be returned. br>br>Recent changes: br>br> I bought a LG hard drive (GP60NS50 - as well as from Amazon) to replace the ASUS drive, and the LG drive is happily reading the disks that the ASUS drive couldn't. When it tries to read a compromised section, it makes some clicking noises, but it has always completed the read. I like ASUS products in general and have a number of them. When I made my purchase, I was swayed by the ASUS brand name. I'm not sure if my ASUS drive was faulty or if that model isn't capable of reading damaged disks. br>br>One last point. The ASUS drive needed a USB "Y" cable (included) to be able to draw power from two different ports. The LG drive comes with a standard (non-Y) cable that connects to one of my Mini Mac ports and works fine.
Works efficiently and precisely. br>I don't like having two USB ports, but I think it's one of the reasons it works so well. In the description, this fact should be highlighted prominently.
The fact is that a) it says it works with Mac in the description, and b) it comes with a USB-C cable. C cable, and c) the user manual expressly states that performance with a USB hub is not guaranteed. br>br>However, the 2019 MacBook Pro 16-inch is a significant upgrade over the previous model. Only USB-C ports are available on inch models. There are two USB-C ports and one USB-A port. The C port appears to be insufficiently powered; When the drive is connected, it simply clicks, but the system does not recognize it and it does not open. Sure, I could plug in the USB-C cable. With each USB-connected device, a Y cable is included. A USB port is also connected. Although some drives, such as those with a single USB port, do not require a C adapter, there are others that do. An adapter is used in conjunction with a connector. So, just to be clear: br>br> If you already own a USB drive, don't buy this. I cannot give a positive review to a MacBook product that is based on the C operating system. It may be a good drive for other applications, but it does not work for this one.
This unit appealed to me because it can be used with either USB type 2 or USB type 3. 0 and USB type C, and after using this CD /DVD Drive for several weeks, I find it to be an excellent value for the money, with no specific issues or problems to report. br>br>As an IT Professional, I can tell you that all External USB CD /DVD Drives manufactured in the last several years have one thing in common. The most affordable units have a compact / small form factor based on the laptop model, and the drive tray is usually quite flimsy. The drive tray's weakness is most noticeable when it opens and closes, but it's manageable if you use your equipment carefully. br>br>However, I bought this drive for occasional use, and I wasn't looking for extreme durability in a CD/DVD player that would be used on a daily basis for several hours. The USB- The C cable has a good length and connects to the PC's USB ports quickly and easily. The R/W speed is excellent, particularly when connected via USB. C, as one might expect. So far, nothing about the construction, appearance, operation, or ease of use of this CD/DVD player has caught my attention.
We have a 2017 Macbook Pro with no DVD drive and only USB type C connections, so we've been relying on our 2009 Macbook Pro with a DVD drive or a PC I built to handle all of our DVD needs. The Macbook Pro 2009's hard drive had failed. We were left with only one computer that had a DVD drive, so we purchased an external DVD drive to use with any of the computers. It was simply a matter of plugging it in and getting started. I've been using it for several months and haven't had any issues.
I connected it to a PC that was turned on for less than 10 hours per month at first, and it worked perfectly. While Windows watches the device come and go over the USB connection, it now only makes a quiet clicking noise. There is no way to return the unit to Amazon because it is completely inoperable.
I just received this product today, and let me begin by saying that it is fantastic. If you're thinking about getting one of these to install drivers instead of installing an optical drive in your computer, go with this brand and product because it works as advertised, it reads every CD I have, and I was finally able to install motherboard drivers that I missed last week while doing an online download. I was previously using a valoin external DVD drive, which was 27 dollars and had good reviews, before purchasing this device. don't. Don't buy it; it couldn't read any of my CDs and took years to read just one disk, and it was picky. Anyway, enough about that; this product, on the other hand, is a little more expensive, but it is well packaged and protected, and it is well worth it. Thank you, Asus, for consistently producing high-quality products that I can rely on when other brands fall short.
