The short answer is: Serial ATA and SATA are interchangeable terms. br>Here's the long version: The AT stood for "Advanced Technology" back in 1984 when IBM released its PC AT. The "AT Attachment" interface (also known as ATA) was used to connect hard drives. To connect CD/DVD drives and hard drives in modern computers, the "Serial ATA" interface, or "SATA," is used. Serial ATA and SATA are simply two different ways of expressing the same concept.
There are two types of CDs and DVDs: CD/DVD- R stands for 'Re-write once, read many,' or 'RW' (Re-write once, read many). Then there's Blu-ray, which is a blu-ray disc that can be written on. M- and Ray Disc, with the exception that I don't believe M- RW's are present on the disc.
The first problem is that Windows 7 isn't supported any longer. The second problem is that Windows 7 appears to be searching for a DVD Burner program. VLC 64 DVD/rw is a program that you should download. Ensure that Windows 7 is up to date, which may prove difficult.
Selected User Reviews For ASUS DRW-24F1ST - DVD SATA SUPERMULTI Burner - SERIAL ATA - BLACK - OEM Bulk Drive
Because my friends and I have come across some shady characters (for example: selling video cards as if they were brand new when they were cryptominer scraps). However, because the reviews for this drive were so positive, I decided to take a chance. The installation went smoothly and according to plan. It's a genuine ASUS 24F1ST that quickly and accurately completes every task I've given it. I'm getting so comfortable with it that I'm thinking about using it for archiving, which is something I've always wanted to do. Solid build with no unusual sound levels. It has read all of the media I've thrown at it with ease. I haven't attempted to use any of the suggestions. I can't comment on whether there were any compatibility issues with the free software because I haven't used it yet, but so far it's worked flawlessly. Many users I know believe that the CD/DVD era is over - After all, the internet never goes down, servers are always up, and you'll never have to reinstall a program in the middle of a business crisis.
I've purchased a number of Asus peripherals over the years, and this one meets my high expectations for their products. It hasn't failed to read or write DVDs yet, and the direct SATA interface is significantly faster than the USB2 external drive I was previously using. It's a win to only have to deal with one external box, cable, and DC power supply. These will almost certainly save me money in the long run because I won't have to rely on cables, plugs, or DC power supplies - It is only the unit itself. It is highly recommended. (Thickness?) br>br>(Thickness?) br>br>(Thickness?) br>br They want to know how thick it is? OK . It took up all five spaces. There are no gaps or overly tight fits in the 25" bay.
I've previously owned and used Asus Burners, and they've always performed admirably. This particular model or drive, on the other hand, is a disaster. When reading a DVD, the drive head makes a scratchy noise that gets worse over time. br>br>Each time a disk is inserted into the drive, the drive must first search the drive before searching/discovering the disk. br>br>The DVD drive will frequently fail to recognize or read the disc. Get a better burner by spending a little more money. Because I've exceeded Amazon's 15-day return policy, I'm throwing this drive out.
For several reasons, I consider this to be one of the best DVD burners I've ever used:
- It is capable of reading and extracting data from DVDs that no other burner can. Scratched or dirty discs can sometimes be recovered using this drive; not always, but most of the time. br>br>- I've never seen such fast burn rates. I'm frequently able to burn a complete DVD-R. In approximately 6 minutes, R will be completed.
- It has the ability to rip through non-absorbable materials. I doubt this drive has a "speed lock" because it plays copyrighted movies so quickly. br>br>- If you relocate to another country, you can easily (and only a few times) change the region code. 2- br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br>b UPDATE NO. 17: br>br>With older devices, this is incompatible. On old 16x IDE burners, burning a disc is nearly impossible. Pioneer, LG, Lite-On, and NEC are some of the companies that make hard drives. If you work in video production, this is extremely important. I've thrown away a lot of high-quality discs in an attempt to resolve this problem. Burning at a slower rate has no effect. br>br>Note: If you're looking for a unique way to express yourself, try using the words "creative It is NOT the media that is to blame. Since I've owned the drive, there have also been no firmware updates. br>br>nine br>br>nine br>br>nine b UPDATE NO. 19: br>br>I reinstalled this drive after not using it for a long time. br>It is a terrible drive for burning Taiyo Yuden TYG03 16X DVD-Rs. R media. br>I had three discs fail in a row once. br>br>Weirdly, at a slower speed of 8x, it fails to burn more frequently. br>br>In most cases, failures are sporadic. My personal best is probably six consecutive burns. br>br>PS I tried defragging my hard drive, but it made no difference.
Although this disc drive appears to be in good working order, I'm only giving it a half-star rating. Because it has to split the review with the other one I bought on 09/20/2020, which sounded like a coffee grinder the moment I installed it and then wouldn't eject discs even on prompt commands, I'm giving it a lower rating. ASUS makes it impossible to contact them for a warranty return, or at the very least makes it so inconvenient that the buyer gives up and buys a new one because the first one failed. THEN the Amazon cucks refuse to post your honest review because it contradicts their narrative; we'll see if this review is posted. If you're going to buy one, you should probably buy two so that you're not stuck with it if the first one fails.
It works fine for me, is quiet when running, took a few restarts to get it working (drivers loaded, seen by Windows, etc. ), but it now works perfectly. The price is low, but the quality appears to be good. If I have any issues with it in the future, I will update this review. br>br>14 May 2020 UPDATE: I've only put about ten discs through this writer, and it no longer recognizes new writable discs, always saying "No compatible drives" or "disc not writable" - BRAND NEW discs are included. Sigh. This unit is a POS, I have to say. This is probably one to stay away from.
The drive was only wrapped in plastic in that envelop, and it was in a wrapped envelope. Thankfully, no damage occurred, and the drive has performed flawlessly since then. It was immediately discovered by Win10. I believe it would have been in a box if it had to travel further than a short distance from the fulfillment center, but who knows? In any case, it all worked out, and I'm satisfied.
Optical drives have a limited lifespan. They don't appear to be built to last; I can see how the optics would get dusty, but optical drives have a short lifespan and are rarely resurrected by cleaning the optics. br>br>This ASUS was a cheap and easy fix. I was up and running again in a matter of minutes, and it's been great at playing just about any CD or DVD, including those burned by other burners.
