This was ordered because I have a car in my shop that requires it. My smoke machine, which I had been using since 1986, finally gave up the ghost. The complete lack of quality control, as well as the $165 price tag, astound me. Smh, I'm not happy at all. I did place an order for a replacement, but my expectations are low. After I receive the replacement, I will revise this review. Take a look at the completely obstructed supply line, which is not only broken but also blocked. It's as if someone in the factory despises the public. Edit: It works now that the replacement has arrived. The claim of 8 to 12 psi is highly dubious. I couldn't get it to produce more than three. 7 PSI. It does, however, smoke when compared to the one it replaced. It's worth noting that the cables that connect to the battery on this one are different. I'm not implying that one set is superior to the other, but rather that the product's consistency falls short of the marketing campaign's claims. I would recommend a different smoke machine, but this is only the second one I've ever owned, the first of which was from 1986 and ran on 120V AC current.
There were two leaks discovered. The car smelled like a blow dryer. We're fleeing somewhere through gasses. It smelled like a toxic mix of oil, gas, and exhaust, and there was probably some carbon monoxide in there because it made me dizzy. This tool quickly revealed that the leak was caused by a faulty oil filler cap, which also explains the odor. Furthermore, I discovered a leak in the intake pipe behind the MAF sensor. Great tool, and I'm glad I didn't take the car to the mechanic because both issues are very simple to fix! I was able to save a significant amount of time and money as a result of your efforts.
I plugged it in, let the car vape for a while, and it fixed itself.
After ten minutes of use, it stopped working. It appears to be working, but! There is NO SMOKE INCLUDED, which is not stated on the box or at the time of purchase. I'm not sure what it's all about. Was extremely dissatisfied. It has a terrible return policy. This is a store you should avoid buying from.
This smoke test tool is of excellent quality. It only has one button to turn it on, and it runs on regular baby oil (not included). The power cable connects to your battery and includes a hook for hanging it from your hood latch. It also comes with a conical adapter that fits most intakes; however, larger intake systems may require an inflatable bladder, which is not included in this kit. br>br>In comparison to other models, this machine is a great value, and if you only need it to check your intake for small leaks, it's ideal: simply connect the hose to the intake adapter, fill with mineral oil, and turn it on. It takes a few minutes for the smoke to really start flowing, but it's effective, and I was able to quickly detect a small leak. Because the leak was so small and in a hard-to-see location, I tried other methods such as soap, but they didn't work well enough. So it was worth having just for that before I began replacing my car's expensive sensors. This unit can also be used to check for exhaust system leaks by putting smoke into the tailpipe and seeing if smoke comes out anywhere in the exhaust system. br>br>In addition to intake system testing, it can be used to check for exhaust system leaks by putting smoke into the tailpipe and seeing if smoke comes out anywhere in the exhaust system. You can also check for engine leaks by putting smoke where your oil goes in or through the dipstick hole and seeing if any smoke comes out. EVAP systems can also be tested with this machine. I didn't try it, but I did try the exhaust test, and there were no leaks, which is good. br>br>Overall, this small smoke machine is simple, but it does an excellent job of detecting small but annoying intake system leaks. I've had no problems with it, and it's an excellent tool to have when diagnosing vehicles for small leaks, which are common in older vehicles. I can't say how dependable it will be over time, but so far it appears to be a solid little device that should do the job in my home shop when I need it.
The most surprising aspect of this is that the documentation is comprehensive enough to be useful. I wasn't expecting "MR CARTOOL" to come with a manual with enough information for someone who isn't familiar with the tool to use it without having to look it up on the internet, but it does. It includes detailed instructions for filling it with oil to make smoke, determining how long it can run at a time (apparently only 5 minutes, which was disappointing), and turning it on and getting it running. Fitted foam top and bottom inserts keep it in place and protect it in the box, and the packaging is also surprisingly nice. Because I use a smoke machine infrequently, keeping it in its original box is convenient, and this unit fits neatly and securely in the box. The accessories are in good condition. The product is well-designed and finished, making it less frustrating to use than many other "no-name, all-purpose" products. Amazon has a plethora of "caps" tools. br>br>Here's my main gripe: the product description fails to mention that the unit is designed to run for "short periods" of 3 to 5 minutes. When it comes to troubleshooting a difficult leak, this might not be enough. It is essential to be aware of this prior to making a purchase. br>br>Overall, this unit is a good buy with a surprising amount of functionality. quality.
I like that it comes with a hangar so I can simply hang it on the car hood latch to keep it out of the way. br>br>I don't have to worry about the power clamps popping off or overheating on the battery terminals because they feel sturdy. br>br>I like how they used a nut to secure the hose, so I don't have to worry about any smoke escaping or the hose dislodging while I'm using it. Using basic mineral oil, it creates a nice, strong cloud. I used food grade and got a nice whispy smoke that's great for really showing up where I have a problem. Overall, it's a fantastic tool. br>br> br>br>Strongly suggested. br>br>.
