Questions & Answers

Does it need to be upright or can it be angled?

Mounting at an angle is possible.

A Chevy 700R4 has a pressure side and a return line. Does this filter go on the return or pressure side?

As for me, I have mine on the pressure side. I run it from the transmission through the radiator into the filter and then into a transducer After the cooler, it is time for As far as I can tell, there are no issues.

Upon installing the filter for my truck, is there a washer shaped magnet I should also include in the filter?

The oil pan of my transmission is equipped with a magnet. As part of the installation of the remote filter, I cleaned it off and changed the internal All I need to do now is change the filter every 25k miles and top off the fluid.

The en filter size that this kit uses is what size?

Filters of various types are available. Fits well with the Ford FL1A filter.

Selected User Reviews For Derale 13090 Transmission Filter Kit

This is the best thing you can do for your transmission! By installing one of these external spin-offs, you'll be able to Integrating an automatic transmission cooler circuit with an on-filter kit could prove to be the most valuable move you There are a variety of micron ratings for internal transmission filters, ranging anywhere from 100 to 200 microns for most (if not all)
5/5

We're down in the 21st century with these external filters A flow of at least 7 microns and a micron range There is no restriction on the amount of water that can be released per minute. A number of brand names are available for these transmission filter kits. I have used three different kits in the past, but this Derale kit is definitely the best. I just wanted to let everyone know that the filter is a very common one and can be found by yourself at low cost at any local auto parts store under a dozen different brand names, at about half the cost This is an exact replacement for a Champion PH253 filter (which BTW is a Champion PH253), so pick your favorite brand, and tell them you want an exact match. BETTER YET, if your garage has the space to install a larger filter, then use the 1515 NAPA Gold number, the FL1A Ford number, Fram number PH8a, or any other There is no comparison between that filter and the smaller ones, PLUS there is about three or four times the surface area of the filter media. Moreover, it is such a common number that it will likely only cost half of what the small filter would cost. This means you will get a much better filter for less money. If you want even better filtering, choose a replacement filter with the same flow rate, bypass valve setting, etc. but with a much finer micron rating of 15 or 10 or even It will make you SO GLAD you installed this kit the next time you need to change your transmission's oil and filter (such as WIX 51307, 57088, etc. ). You can change the oil and filter of your engine as easily as you do when changing your engine oil. The only thing you need to do to drain the transmission if it has no drain plug Take the spin-off out of the equation Once you have the drain bucket under the mounting plate of the filter, start the engine and let it idle until the fluid flow stops, and then shut the engine down. The number of quarts drained should be measured, and the volume should be refilled Using the same number and a little extra for the filter, fill the trans with the same amount. The new filter and replacement fluid must be installed before operating the vehicle. After it has been fully warmed up, the fluid level should be checked and appropriate adjustments made. For the past 20 years, I have performed this procedure about every 20 to 25 thousand miles on four different vehicles (all GMs). I always have clean transmission fluid, and I don't see any wear particles or debris in the drain oil (since they are all trapped inside the filter) so I always feel at ease. No matter what kind of vehicle I drive, I'm unlikely to ever have a transmission issue.

It would have been wonderful if I had done this years ago! The Ford F-150 I own is a 1999 With the 5
5/5

9, the 250 Super Duty is a powerful truck. The 4R100 transmission comes with the 4 gas. Since December of 2003, I have owned it. Having done this decades ago would have been a great benefit. To begin with, the hose included is 5/16 th in size. Due to the 3/8th barbs and the fluid line, I didn't want to battle to get it together, so I went to the auto parts store and bought 3/8ths is not the right size instead it is between 5/16ths and 3/8ths. It is 11. 32nds. Secondly, avoid using thread tape and go to the hardware store and buy some Master Plumber TFE Paste pipe thread compound instead. A substance that is non-aggressive to seals and valves (will not harm them). The material can withstand pressures of up to 10,000 psi. The temperatures ranged from -28°F to 29°F There is a temperature range of 50 The product is compatible with water and steam, and it can also be used in natural and distilled water. Hydrocarbons such as gas, oils, fuels, and distilled In addition, let hold over night to ensure it is fully cured. Apply to threads, assemble and as a final step, let dry. There is no complete drying of the paint. The third thing to note is that Derale's filter is 21 microns thick. There are some who suggest a finer micron, such as 15 or even 10. Unlike hydraulic fluid, transmission fluid does not act as a As long as the hydraulic fluid is the right one, you can In a similar way to a limited slip differential ( rear end ) that requires a fiction additive , automatic transmissions have clutch discs that require a fiction component in the fluid in order for the transmission to function properly. Microns of fineness will filter these components out, according to Derale. Make sure to stick to Make sure to do your research if you have room to use a larger filter. My choice of Wix 51515 XP was the right one for me. With a height of 5 inches, a width of 4 inches and a color of orange Set the Pass Valve to (8- It is 11 p. m. The same max flow rate ( 7-33 l/min ) The ninth letter of the alphabet is it is 21 microns thick. In any case, the hose barb fittings are made of black anodized aluminum, they are NOT plastic.

Rather than what you expected to receive, they'll bait you and switch you
3/5

The one I bought on eBay six months ago was pretty good. My truck is now using the device and I am impressed with it. Amazon because I had some other items, so I ordered it to install on the other truck. It was a few dollars more expensive than the eBay seller, but I had some other items so I ordered it. Unlike the kit pictured in the print advertisement, this kit uses plastic barb fittings instead of brass ones. ahead and punched the brass fittings to ensure the job was done properly. What's the point of doing all this work if you're going to use junk and You need to add To get these, we will add 00 to the price and take 40 minutes. The wait and switch tactics they use to maximize their profits are totally disappointing to me, and I want As much as I would have liked to have purchased again from the seller I used earlier on eBay. This is what's going to happen if you buy these and you get the cheap plastic parts.

You can save yourself transmission damage by installing an external filter
3/5

I can't figure out why Amazon removed "warmth" and "sheerness" from their review features. I don't know. You'd need to leave it on for too long. Anyway, keep your transmission clean with this option. I found that my stock 92 HDJ81 filter isn't very effective in screening out anything other than large chunks of metal, having the external filter adds an extra layer of protection, now I can change the filter about every 10k miles or so and keep the engine free from It's not clear to me why some people have trouble with their kits coming with plastic fittings, because mine came with metal Now that I have this set up along with the 34 row cooler, I have less to worry about. * Update * Despite using thread compound to seal the threads, this thing leaks out of the out port on the adapter no matter how tight I screw it on. Rebuilt it after taking it apart and reassembling it I have applied the compound multiple times, to no effect (I tried tape as well, but it really made matters worse). The review was updated to reflect this change.

You should be careful when purchasing! Make sure you do not get caught! A picture and a description These brass 3/4"NPT x 3/4" barb fittings are shown in the description
3/5

All you have are two cheap plastic fittings that break when you put any pressure on It was a complete and utter waste of money! The NPT plastic fittings are not going to hold up after a few months of usage if someone installs this. Buying brass fittings is a good idea. It is cheaper to spend a couple of bucks rather than replacing your transmission if these plastic fittings fail. This is a joke -- for its outrageous price, they couldn't include brass fittings like the description says they would? As a reminder As well as the hose clamps, the screws are junk. There are plenty of quality sets on the market.
