Not much. This is not a case of heat shrinkage. Overlap it and tie it with ty raps if you're going to use it around wire.
On a large V8 engine, I have heavy gauge wire carrying high amperage running alongside the exhaust manifold; your application is just as important, if not more so. I am confident in this product for your application, as I am confident in it for mine.
Get a wrap for your exhaust if it's 1/4" inside diameter.
Yes, I used it to connect battery cables.

This is a lot of fun. Instead of just sleeving the small portion of the old hose that had a sleeve, I decided to sleeve the entire water hose that I was replacing. I should have gone with a larger sleeve because this one barely fit over the hose, making it a little difficult to put on due to the way the sleeve tightens when stretched. When I was playing around with it before installing it, I discovered this the hard way. I got my finger stuck in it like the Chinese handcuffs I used to have as a kid! I was a little embarrassed when I had to ask my adult son to free my fingers from the tube, despite the fact that it was hilarious! He laughed for a long time and couldn't wait to tell his other brother about it when he returned home from work! My words of wisdom for other mothers who refuse to grow up. If you're going to test this sleeve with your fingers, make sure one of your kids is nearby. Otherwise, you might find yourself stranded until help arrives!.
This sleeve works well in insulating the wiring from burns from the hot engine.
On my F150, I used this to protect the thin gauge wires for an LED light bar that were run above the engine, because I wanted to make sure they were protected in that hot spot in the engine bay. It was a success!.
This heat sleeve expands and contracts to accommodate a wide range of diameters within the range for which it was purchased. If you know what I'm talking about, they're almost like those Chinese finger cuffs.
This was used to encase two 18 gauge wires that were running against the engine case of a motorcycle. There are no issues with the temperature ranging between 150 and 200 degrees Fahrenheit.
I needed to insulate a couple of KnuKoncept 1/0 power wires that ran into the firewall, and I wasn't sure if the 1/0 would fit in this 1/2'' loom, but it does, and I couldn't be happier! I placed my order yesterday and got it today!.
It has the same feel as the Heatshield sleeve but is less expensive. I put it to the test with some wires and a lighter, and it works perfectly.
One side of the taco was sliced up. Inside was a helical wrapped wire harness that was zipped closed and used hi-tech materials. Overwrap zip ties with a temporary gold space reflective tape. It really works.
