There is something wrong with my gas cap that is causing my check engine light to come on

There is something wrong with my gas cap that is causing my check engine light to come on. It doesn't matter if I clear the codes, they come back right away. In my case, all I did was replace the old cap with this one and the old one was merely cosmetically old but functionally fine. The new gas cap is causing me a lot of trouble, as they say don't fix what ain't broken. It's a good thing autozone doesn't sell junk, so I guess I have to go there instead.

I had a problem with my tether

I found it to be cheap and light when I opened it, but it did seal well. I forgot the tether with gas, so the first time I got gas, it broke. Taking the cost into account, if you don't need a tether, it's no problem.
