This replacement mount has three flaws: 1. br>br> It's not tall enough to go on the main frame rail of most trailers and clear the side rails if you install it on the frame as they suggest. As a result, you'll need to weld an extra riser to mount it to. It must be the same height as the tire or very close to it in order to function properly in the intended scenario. br>br>2. Carriage bolts are the lugs that come with the kit. That's fine, but the problem is that when it's time to remove them, they fall out, which is inconvenient. They should be held captive on the mount while still being able to move around freely. They would not fall out as a result of this, but the result would be the same. br>br>3. When most trailers use 13/16" nuts on lugs, or some smaller ones 9/16", the lugs supplied are 3/4" in diameter. I'm not aware of any trailers that use 3/4" bolts, so you'll need to keep an extra socket on hand just to get your spare off so you can install it. There should be two sets of lugs included, one for 9/16" and the other for 13/16," and you should be able to choose which ones to use so that they match the lugs on your trailer.
When the trailer is disconnected and the spare tire touches the ground, it acts as a brake with the tire attached. When the trailer is parked on a slight incline, this feature comes in handy.
I used the spare tire to mount this to the side of a utility trailer. I was afraid the trailer railing would be twisted as we drove down the road. The frame and tire holder had to be braced with a sheet of metal. The wobbling then came to a halt. I'm satisfied with the result now.
This was a breeze to set up. It's been 6 months since I put it on the trailer, and everything is still in good working order.
This made it simple and secure to attach the spare tire to the trailer. It's also a little out of the way. That's exactly what I needed!.
I bought two and mounted them side by side on my aluminum boat trailer. The provided hardware makes it simple to install. Brackets that are solid.
Simple to set up and use, and it does exactly what it says it will.
