This should work because it replaces the factory hinge. We haven't tried combining the two yet.
I'm not sure, but there's no reason why it shouldn't be possible. It's a fantastic carrier that's far superior to the stock version. No rattles while holding my Fuel 17x9s with 35" Grabbers.
The short answer, in my opinion, is YES. br>The Hinge Brackets, as I call them, are installed first to replace the existing gate hinges. The new HD carrier is then bolted to the swing gate after being installed in those brackets. br> Before mounting the brackets or carrier, you could easily get them powder coated.
It'll be replaced with this kit. You can keep the factory mount if you just get the hinge portion, but only the hinge portion will be stronger.

I couldn't justify spending an extra $200 on the Terraflex mount and hinge, so I got this and got a free spare tire in the process. I chose the Xprite brake light that mounts inside the spare. I'm driving a 2016 Jeep JKU with 35-inch tires and 16-inch Cepek DC2 wheels. The weight of each wheel tire is approximately 115 pounds. Those who are complaining about the thumping should be careful when installing the hinge. I went through three stages of tightening. When you first wedge and attach, this is how it will look. Second, lift wedge and tighten it again after swinging it to the open position (about 20 degrees). The third time is when you put the spare in place and lift the wedge once more. It should be flush and secure after that. br>br>I've only had mine for a week, but I tested it on parking lot curbs and speed bumps at various speeds and angles to test the twist with drops and climbs, as well as straight on with hard drops and climbs. My stock tire carrier could no longer support the extra weight after I upgraded to 35s. This one looked fantastic and appeared to be quite sturdy, and I was correct. The installation was simple, and there are several YouTube videos available to show you how to do it. In about an hour, I was able to install this on my own. No matter how hard I hit a bump, my spare tire will not budge. There were no signs of shipping damage, and all of the parts were still in the box. The instructions are well-written and simple to understand. br>br>This came with a third brake light extender, which I didn't use because I wanted to connect it to the spare tire lights. You'll need some lock right for a couple of the bolts, as well as some wood scraps to act as shivs to keep the tailgate in place once it's disconnected from the Jeep. On a 2015 Jeep Rubicon, this is an excellent fit!.
After a few weeks, the temporary fix was so shaky that it moved around too much while driving (even after everything was tight). It made me so nervous to drive that I was only able to take my Jeep 4x4 out twice due to my fear. I came across this reinforcement kit and was impressed by the positive feedback. I originally found it on another website for $600 for the entire kit! What? So I went on here and found it for this unbelievable price, complete with all of the pieces, screws, bolts, and simple instructions! My father and I were able to set it up in just a few hours, and for the first time in our lives, we weren't rushing to Ace Hardware every few steps! It's extremely durable, and there are no more clunking sounds! When I drive, I feel so much better; I love this thing, and the price on Amazon is unbeatable!.
This carrier is extremely durable, but it was a nightmare to set up. The instructions are mostly clear, but they refer to each other when installing both the hinge bracket and the tire carrier, which can be confusing. All of the necessary hardware was included in the package. This carrier is HEAVY, and no amount of shimming will keep your tailgate in the correct position the first time; it took us about 2 hours to install because we had to adjust it several times. Drill and adjust the hinges, then attach the tire carrier, adjust, and tighten the hinge bolts. Adjust and tighten the hinge bolts by opening the tailgate. Adjust and tighten the hinge bolts after installing the spare tire. Open the tailgate with the spare tire attached, adjust the hinge bolts, and tighten them. We tightened and tightened and tightened some more, but my tailgate still has a minor sag, which I'm fine with for a couple of amateurs. This carrier makes no thumping or rattling noises and has a very secure feel to it. When it comes to installation, just keep in mind that it will take some time, patience, and muscle.
It's been about three months since I put it in. The installation was fairly simple, and I had my 17-year-old son do the majority of it because I want him to learn how to work on cars. We had no problems because I read the instructions and watched some YouTube videos. br>br>35" Nitto Terra Grappler tires and Armory wheels are fitted to my 2016 JKUR. They're quite substantial. I mounted them on an extension to the stock tire carrier. I was worried that the tailgate would sag over time, particularly when bouncing over rough trails. The purpose of purchasing this item was to strengthen the hinge. br>br>It gets the job done, but the hinge is tight and the tailgate is now more difficult to open. I used lithium white grease to coat the hinge, but it didn't work. My wife is unable to open it, but the majority of the population is able to do so. br>br>My 35" tires just clear the third brake light extension. It should be a couple of inches higher. br>br>A 1/2" or larger hole in the center is required for the tire holder. My back is mounted- Install the camera in the spare wheel hub's center and connect the cables to the wiring harness in the tailgate through the center of the hub. Because there is no hole in this carrier, I am unable to do so. I considered drilling my own hole, but drilling a 1/2" diameter hole through this thick of steel would be a difficult task. In addition, I was missing a 1/2" cobalt drill bit. br>br>I'm working on a 3rd brake light extension and a back-up light. camera in the air I'm going to make a 3D model of it. I'd like to upgrade my back-up system. In any case, up camera.
I bought this product without reading any reviews, so I feel obligated to do so now. The components appear to be sturdy and well-made right out of the box. With helpful illustrations, the instructions are fairly simple to follow. br>br>The fit on MY jeep was less than perfect, and even though I followed the instructions to the letter, I had a misalignment issue that required me to use a round file to work the holes a little to help with alignment. br>br>Another feature that I don't care for is the tire carrier's limited adjustment; you can only move it out a couple of inches. Now, if you have a wheel with a greater back spacing than my 3, you can use it. This may all work better for you if you have a 75" 15x8's. My carrier won't let the tire preload against the hinge because it's too far in. We'll see how that goes in the future. br>br>I chose this carrier over the Teraflex carrier solely on the basis of cost.
