Questions & Answers
A sheet of Bristol is thick, like a card. Thus, no tracing, since it is not thin enough. Tracking paper is produced by XL under the TRACING label. It may be helpful to you.
The specific brand of marker will determine the type of paper you will need, but generally speaking you will want to go with the marker paper rather than Bristol paper.
Unlike vellum, this is a lightweight cardboard product that shows sharp detail better than a toothed sketchpad. I use this product for pencil drawings since it is a bright white and takes pencil marks very well.
It is true that the sizes described are accurate. My heavy weight paper comes in a variety of sizes, and I will use it for a long time.
Selected User Reviews For Canson XL Series Bristol Vellum Paper Pad, Heavyweight Paper for Pencil, Vellum Finish, Fold Over, 100 Pound, 11 x 14 Inch, Bright White, 25 Sheets
In order to be clear, I've purposely selected bristol board (white paper substantially thicker than card stock) with a vellum finish. It can also be used for line work with drafting pens and blending markers. Because of the vellum matt surface I can get precise, clean lines with the markers, and the thickness of the paper helps them blend seamlessly. As long as you know what you're getting, this is an amazing product.
Layered colored pencils work well on this board because it's heavy and has the right texture. I haven't had this brand for long enough to know if it will yellow over time. Everything seems to be going well so far! I found the price to be reasonable.
Pencils made with oil do not blend very well with In addition to watercolor pencils, water-soluble markers work well too. This type of surface is suitable for acrylic paint. You don't need to submerge the paper in water if it gets wet, but it shouldn't get too wet. The price is well worth it.
This is great for colored pencils, as you can layer it many times.
The surface is smooth and it allows the use of fine mechanical pencils of any size, even fine 0's. Excellent for comic making. In both 3 and 0, there is no difference. There are no punctures on 5 of them. The Blue mechanical pencil lead I use to draw on the paper won't show up when inked or not inked once the image is added to the paper Using blue pencils to photograph. Despite its excellent quality, I am a bit disappointed that only a few pages are included per sketchbook.
As always, Canson Bristol is the best. I have never used any other brand of Bristol board and I won't if I can avoid.
Paper of this strength can accommodate paint, alcohol markers, and the like without a hitch.
There is something special about this heavyweight paper. . . It's not just for drawing and engraving. The four-page version of this document is actually printed You can print color photographs on it with an Epson 1100 WF wide format printer, and then mount them in a gallery exhibition. If you would like to print a basic image and then embellish it using a medium of your choice, this paper is perfect.
