This item does not have a purchase order or payment. Karen, I appreciate your help.
Yes, they are non-toxic in all of their games.
I had the same reaction to the smell when we received it as a gift two months ago. We have other puzzles from this company that do not have the same odor. The odor persists even after allowing it to air out. I stuffed it into a closet, but it now stinks as well. I'm going to discard it.
I don't make them, but if you look at the product information at the bottom of the page, it says solid wood, which I don't believe is the case.

It isn't made entirely of wood. We were dismayed to learn that it is primarily made of MDF or particle board, rather than solid wood. It's made of paper pulp or fine wood fibers that have been pressed together and glued together with an adhesive, and it quickly disintegrated in our baby's mouth when she chewed on the puzzle pieces, as well as the paint on top. The pulp, as well as whatever adhesive they use, cannot be safe for a baby to consume. Melissa and Doug's decision to make a puzzle for 12 month old babies out of this material astounds me. At the age of twelve months, babies gnaw on everything. We've had better luck with some of their other products, but after this incident, we're no longer confident in their quality. This wasn't expensive, but it was a complete waste of our funds. We got rid of it and replaced it with a solid wood peg puzzle from a nearby store. It is more expensive, but it is made of baltic birch, which does not disintegrate as easily as the Melissa and Doug puzzle did. We will never buy another one, and I strongly advise you to avoid doing so as well. This is, by the way, made of wood, according to the product description. It must change in order to reflect its true nature.
I wanted to write a review to praise Amazon's excellent customer service; I received the product and it was damaged; I notified Amazon, and within 48 hours, a replacement product was delivered to my door. I really like this product; the little one hasn't played with it yet because it's a gift, but it appears to be quite sturdy from what I've seen. The knobs are secure, and the paper is adhered to the wood in a secure manner. I believe we will be able to use this for many years. This is clearly a toy that should be supervised by adults, as I imagine excessive drool could damage the puzzle pieces if they keep putting them in their mouth. We intend to use it, along with another puzzle we purchased, for a short period of time each day to help with motor skills. Also, if it matters to you, it's very cute, and I wouldn't mind having it in my living room with the wooden handles. It's brightly colored, and when my baby saw it while I was unboxing it, he was immediately drawn to it.
I've always admired Melissa and Doug's products, so I was taken aback by the poor quality of this puzzle; the wood is of poor quality, and the animal colors appear to be paper stickers rather than actual colors, so once baby put it in her mouth, it melted immediately. I wish I had read the reviews first before making a purchase. br>Also, the board is too heavy, and dropping it while carrying it around could injure the baby's feet. On the back, there's a large ad sticker that doesn't peel off cleanly.
It's not too bad for a beginner's puzzle. My one-year-old has been attempting to figure out how to operate the knobs. br>br>It just looks like it was thrown together and isn't very durable. Despite being brand new, it has cracks that aren't visible in the original product image, as well as cosmetic damage around the corners. br>And I had expected solid wood rather than cheap, chippable particle board. br>br>Overall, I was disappointed.
This was a birthday present for my 16-month-old son. He's obsessed with cats and has been since the beginning. He's getting the hang of putting the pieces together and naming all of the animals (as well as pointing to the majority of the shapes on our other puzzle). Yes, they're big, and getting in for little ones can be difficult, but they've survived throwing, banging, and toddlerhood so far. My little one hasn't had a chance to eat them yet. The edges are fraying, but he continues to throw and bang the pieces. I like how the pieces have "cracks" in them to keep them from sticking together.
I bought this puzzle for my one-year-old, but when I opened the package, it reeked like a dead fish. I tried cleaning it and airing it out, but the odor persisted, so I threw it out. I also don't want anything with that scent near my one-year-old, who eats everything. In addition, unlike many of Melissa's other paintings, these are not painted on wood. Doug's puzzles are designed in such a way that the images peel off almost immediately. This purchase was a huge letdown, and I would not recommend it to anyone.
This is a three-piece Melissa and Doug pet-themed knob puzzle. The illustrations are stickers, and it appears to be made of plywood sandwiched between particle board. Between the dog and the other two animals, there are two cracks in mine. I'm not sure if it's a flaw or a result of the manufacturing process. It is likely to sustain some damage if your child is a chewer due to the materials used (ie, the stickers for the art), but it appears to be sturdy otherwise. It's a good start to the game. My almost-one-year-old daughter has a lot of fun with it.
For my toddler, I chose to purchase this exact one. We used to soak it in water and soap at the daycare or spray it down and wipe it clean. Despite this, they appeared to be in good condition. Except for the fact that they were made of wood, you could see the water damage, but they still looked fine. After receiving mine and putting it to use a few times, I noticed that it wasn't holding up as well as it used to. I'm hoping it will last longer because it hasn't been exposed to water.
