Questions & Answers

When it comes to these puzzles, what is the suggested age range?

Because there are small parts in the alphabet puzzle, it is recommended for children aged 3 and up, while the number and fish puzzles are suitable for children aged 2 and up. I would hold off on the number puzzle as well if you have a child who still puts things in their mouth.

Is the wood used in the puzzles?

Yes, the majority of Melissa and Doug's products are made of wood, and they're of excellent quality.

Do the pieces lay flat when inserted into the correct location, or does the peg go all the way through, causing them to be elevated?

They lie flat on the ground. This is a fantastic product that has been expertly crafted.

Do the puzzles come in individual plastic bags?

Yes, so make sure you don't remove the plastic with the puzzle facing the wrong way. Some of the plastic may adhere to the pegs in the pieces, but this is not the case for the most part. Melissa is one of my favorite designers. Doug is perplexed by everything. I wish there was a new "latch" puzzle available.

Selected User Reviews For Melissa & Doug Classic Wooden Peg Puzzles (Set of 3) - Numbers, Alphabet, and Colors

Overall, the puzzle is of good quality, but don't expect it to be "chunky
4/5

" We have a wide range of Melissa and Doug products, all of which are extremely durable and long-lasting. These are a little thinner and smaller than I expected, but they are of excellent quality for the price, and I recommend this set. Here are some comparison photos of the number and alphabet puzzles in this set versus the Melissa and Doug shapes and dinosaur puzzles we previously purchased. If you don't already have the shapes set, I strongly advise you to do so. My son's preferred puzzle is this one.

Although not of the highest quality, I suppose you get what you pay for when it comes to the price
3/5

To begin, I'd like to state that I adore Melissa in general. I'm a big fan of Doug's products and have bought several for my daughter in the past. They're all of decent quality, for the most part. These puzzles fall short of their usual standards and are at best mediocre. br>br>The first one I opened was a numbers puzzle, and I immediately noticed the poor quality. The pieces aren't all cut well, and I had trouble getting a few of them into the board (including the ZERO). I'm not sure how a toddler can do this without becoming frustrated. After a few rounds of playing with the puzzle, I noticed that the stickers on the front of the puzzle were peeling up around the edges. When my 18-month-old realized this, she began to tamper with the sticker, and I was forced to put the puzzle up to prevent things from getting any worse. I'll have to go over everything again. Glue them to the edges of the paper. br>I opened the fish/colors puzzle in the hopes that it would be better put together. . . but it was just the same. . . peeling off stickers. The cuts appear to have improved. My daughter is pretty good at puzzles, but she still gets frustrated with these because the cuts aren't perfect enough to fit in the board. br>I haven't opened the alphabet puzzle yet because I'm afraid it will be the same, and I don't want it to get ruined. I suppose I'll have to wait until my daughter is older before I can use these.

There is room for improvement in the design
3/5

I would have given fewer stars if my granddaughter was not only 2 years old, but I'm going to assume for the time being that her difficulties with the alphabet and number puzzles are due to her age. br>br>Remembering that one of these puzzles - a puzzle about fish - Because the game is explicitly about colors, I find it strange that neither the number nor the alphabet puzzles have useful color coding. That is, the colors in the images beneath the puzzle pieces are not the same as the color of the puzzle piece that fits. Why not, after all? It would be SO simple for the vendor to offer that little help, but the color difference makes my granddaughter second-best. She continues to second-guess herself. It becomes less of a problem as she memorizes the locations of each piece, but it appears to me that providing that color-coded list would be beneficial. What purpose does it serve to confuse the young learner in this way? Coding boost could only help the new solver of those puzzles, and what purpose does it serve to confuse the new solver of those puzzles? br>br>As far as the alphabet puzzle is concerned - When it comes to learning the alphabet's shapes, it's pointless because the puzzle pieces aren't always the same shape as the letters. Furthermore, the rounded edges make several pieces look a lot more alike than they should. I'm disappointed in this puzzle because my granddaughter's mother had an alphabet puzzle when she was a kid that had the correct shapes for the pieces and she loved it, so I was hoping to give my granddaughter the same experience. br>br>In conclusion - These are not appropriate for a child who is just learning his or her numbers and alphabet letters. There are alternatives that are better.

Puzzles that are highly recommended
5/5

When my daughter was 19 months old, I purchased these puzzles. She has now reached the age of 23 months. My husband and I wanted her to practice her fine motor skills, and we figured these puzzles would be useful in teaching her colors, numbers, and letters. In just a few weeks, she was able to solve these puzzles. She is particularly fond of the fish and number puzzles. She'll pull these puzzles out and solve them several times throughout the week. In addition, we paid less than $20 for three of these puzzles. Each puzzle is worth between $8 and $10 on its own. $10. This bundle seemed like a great deal to me. These puzzles come highly recommended by me for any mom with a young toddler.

It's not your typical M
3/5

Melissa is a woman who is passionate about Doug is our family's go-to brand when it comes to our children. We have a number of toys and other puzzles made from them and are very pleased with the quality. These puzzles were not of the same high quality that we are accustomed to. They aren't made of the same type of wood as our previous puzzles. These are extremely light. I don't think they'll last as long as other puzzles. (Example: We've had the three-piece pet puzzle for ten years and it's still going strong! ) I'm afraid that if my toddler chews on any of the pieces, it won't last long; I'm disappointed because this isn't M's style. The standard of excellence.

On these, I was a little off

My 17-month-old daughter has figured out her farm puzzle. I decided to purchase these in advance so that she could grow into them. The alphabet puzzle is a complete disaster. It's difficult to match up because it's not an exact letter cut out. I'm familiar with the alphabet, but putting it together was a chore for me. The other two are fine, and she prefers to throw them out on the floor to putting them together. Without a doubt, I will seek out a better alphabet version.

Good but
4/5

These puzzles are extremely well-made and sturdy. My two- year- They are very popular with my 12-year-old granddaughter. But I'm not sure what they were thinking when they created the illustrations to accompany the letters. For Q, there will be quail. Really. Queen is a good example. Yarn for the letter Y. what two- year- Old is familiar with the term "yarn. " Why not try your hand at yoyoing? When the majority of children learn ball for B, they should be able to make a basket. The letter K is represented by a set of keys. It would have been far more logical to use the words "kite" or "king. " Her daycare is working with her alphabet as well, but it's difficult when I'm using different site words for the same letters as they are.
