Questions & Answers

Has this been purchased for a child who is left-handed? What was your experience like?

Ours is collapsing from my child's left-hand side. use of one hand I bought it for her birthday, which was only a couple of weeks ago. I'm not sure how safe it is to use (wires are now exposed) because the cord is already starting to detach from the pen.

Is it able to recognize words or only the child's name?

Letters and shapes If you put your child's name on the screen when it first started up, it will spell it out for you.

Does the screen light up with letters and numbers that can be traced?

I believe the numbers and letters are at the top of the small screen, and your child will write that number or letter on the large screen below. I hope this answers your question, and thank you for your time.

I'm sorry, but I'm not a fan
3/5

My three-year-old can't either. Unfortunately, it fell short of our expectations. Here's why I gave it three stars. 1 - It's not a particularly loud noise. Yes, it's set to maximum volume, and yes, I have four children who make it difficult to hear anything. He, on the other hand, spends the majority of his time frustratedly asking, "What did it say?" 2 - This is a significant step forward. V Tech completely ignored the fact that not all children are right-handed. Because my son is left-handed and the pen has a short cord attached to the right side, you can get it to work if you are careful every time you pick it up. However, the cord frequently catches on this little "lip," causing it to become extremely short; it's extremely difficult to write comfortably with the cord stretched that far, so I find him trying to use it right-handed. For both of us, this is extremely aggravating. 3 - It's a mystery to me why the eraser bar is on the bottom of any mangetic doodle type board. He's writing away, catching the "eraser" with his shirt sleeve and undoing what he's doing in real time. Every time he does it, he becomes extremely enraged. It's a shame, because it could have been a fantastic toy. The activities are enjoyable, and the stencils are conveniently stored in the back. Unfortunately, rather than being a fun and educational toy, it has been a source of frustration for us.

This isn't for you if you're on the left side of the political This was one of those books that I desperately wanted to like
3/5

For the past year, I've had it on my wish list for my son. I finally bought it for him for Christmas, even though he is almost two and a half years old. This seemed like an appropriate age to me. That is, if he was right-handed. My son's left hand appears to be the dominant hand, and the pen's connection is on the right side, making it difficult for him to use with his left hand; I, on the other hand, am a righty, so I guess this is just the beginning of the challenges we will face. For children who are not right-handed, it would be preferable if the pen was connected in a more central location. However, I do have another magnetic pen that was detachable from a dollar store set that we can use with the set.

Read! Be cautious when opening the battery compartment
3/5

This is a fantastic toy that my three-year-old son adores. Every day, he uses it as a toy. I write and draw on it, and he meticulously records everything I do. The battery compartment is the only major flaw; it simply opens, allowing the batteries to fall out. Not good! In my opinion, it is not child proof. I'd rather it had a screw so I wouldn't have to worry about my child playing with the batteries or them going into his mouth. I also have a one-year-old, so I'm constantly double-checking that the compartment is closed and that the batteries are inside; I'm going to have to duck tape this shut to avoid any mishaps. I'm hoping that the company will be able to repair the battery compartment for future customers. I'm sure I'd prefer not to have to worry about my son's favorite toy losing its batteries on a daily basis. br>br>UPDATE: br>br> In regards to the battery compartment, I contacted the company. They initially advised me to contact Amazon in order to resolve the issue; however, this is not an Amazon issue. I called them back, and this time I had to argue with them for a half-hour about the item's safety. They offered to replace the item with another of the same kind - No, I don't want four batteries laying around my house. Then he said I could choose any toy worth up to $24 if I wanted to. Which I declined because they didn't have another toy similar to this one. It was a nice gesture, but I got the impression they didn't care what I had to say. I was scared because I was worried that a child could get a hold of batteries. br> In general, they stated that this toy is not intended for children under the age of three (although my child is advanced in writing and should be able to use this toy) and that they do not consider what if the family has other children who are younger. Since I've had it (since Christmas), this compartment has opened several times, and they don't appear to be concerned about batteries falling out. This is something that worries me. So, either keep an eye on your kids or duct tape it like I do. It's a pity, because it's a fantastic educational tool.

For toddlers, this is a hazardous situation
3/5

If it had been safe, I would have given it five stars. However, I feel compelled to inform other parents that the battery case does not close with a screw. It's been opened numerous times by my children. They took the tape off after I taped it. As a result, they are not permitted to use it without supervision because it is simply unsafe.

The toy had a leak and liquid was slowly spilling out of the board
3/5

***********IT LOOKS LIKE VTECH DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMER***********
I first assumed it was water or something else, but it turned out to be coming from the board, and it had been happening since day one. When I called customer service, they simply told me that my 90-day warranty was no longer valid and that they couldn't help me. That liquid may or may not have been hazardous. For us, it was a complete waste of money. We recently received a "Vtech Activity Desk" as a gift, which was a more expensive and better toy that also broke down after exactly three months: ) and customer service told me they couldn't do anything because the 90-day warranty period had expired. Vtech products are no longer on my shopping list.
