I took a chance on this product despite the lack of reviews and the lack of prime shipping (two red flags for me), and I'm glad I did. Blocks are extremely durable, and once assembled, they stay put. My one-year-old loves his mega blocks, but some of them fall apart when he assembles them; these, on the other hand, do not. Even if you stack them all together into one big'sword,' they stay connected, but he can break them apart on his own. There are 26 letter blocks and four blanks, according to the description. This isn't entirely correct. Every letter has its own block, which has a capital on one side, a lower case on the other, and two blank sides. The letter Y, on the other hand, has two blocks. Red blocks are for vowels, blue blocks are for consonants, and Y has both red and blue blocks. One red and two blue blank blocks make up the trio. br>br>I used these to make him his own Alphablocks blocks, so he could connect them and form words by 'holding hands,' just like in the show. I used the Avery printable 1 for this project. 5x1. 5" stickers were perfect for the job. On the two blank sides of each block, I placed an Alphablocks sticker. I used the 3 blank blocks to give him a few duplicate letters by putting a different block on each side of the red Y, giving him A, E, I, and O on the blank sides. D, F, G, L, N, P, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z, W, X, Y, Z, W, Y, br>br>I can see these blocks lasting a long time, probably much longer than his interest in Alphablocks, and then we'll be able to use them for phonics and math. If we require more, I will not hesitate to place an order.
These are fantastic for teaching letter recognition. I wish there were more vowels to choose from, but the blank blocks compensate. I also wish they were available in as many colors as the smaller unifix cubes. They are fantastic.
We can do alphabets as well as patterns because of the jumbo size, which is why I bought two sets of these cubes.
