Paint is not necessary, raw wood is best. They are for my grandson whom I bought them for when he was 2. My cat does not chew on anything, and I do not have any worries.
All are compatible, just as Brio is.
There are two sides to them.

Our wooden track in stock is very reasonable priced. We have many kinds of track in stock! There is even 'clackety track' from the original Thomas collection, which is 20 years old. My experience has taught me that there are many types of wooden track pieces of various quality. These sets are great, and I'm very happy with them. The first problem is that it might be two or three times more expensive to order eight pieces of ascending track from other manufacturers. The second thing is that the pieces we got were smooth and well-cut Our new tracks are finished, and they are working well with the others. It was noted by another reviewer that they had a lower rating A little more- It is a perfect piece, and the manufacturer made it well. I don't know what more you can ask for!.
My flight was delayed, so I had The tracks seem poorly cut, as there is a lot of splintering on the edge of one piece, and one piece broke into a point. Other pieces are either chipped or just aren't cut correctly. In addition, I observed that they did not work well with other tracks when I tested them. Thomas tracks cut gaps when connected to these pieces, and Imaginarium pieces are too tight to attach.
In some cases, there is an issue with the male end of the track cutting off about 10 degrees or more from what you would think vertical should be. It interferes with their fitting into the female mating track in others. It is still up to me whether I will return the products due to.
I found it very easy to assemble. This is a very well made set of tracks, especially the peg part. The pieces all fit together well.
This ascending track was purchased for my daughter's train set. It seems to not be available in normal pack sizes. Despite it being technically true that they do fit with her wooden train track, they're not as nice as I The ends are rough and do not align well. Moreover, the male and female ends are not of a uniform circle shape, so they cannot be connected smoothly. It is necessary to sand these down on both ends of the track and along the track for them to fit tightly. They fit technically, but my daughter gets frustrated because the train derails so much more easily. It would have been nice if they were of better quality for the price of over a dollar per piece.
I had assumed all the elements were present based on the picture of the Thomas box. That's not true! Tracks for ascending and descending were needed. I had no problems with them. I was aware, however, that the ascending/descending tracks do not come with stands or other equipment, so alone they would not work.
Please accept my sincere thanks.
