An overview of raising butterflies is included in the quick start guide.

Questions & Answers

Is it possible to eat any flower?

I have only used native milkweed when raising Monarch butterflies. It is not the flower that they eat, but the leaves of the plant instead.

The plastic vials that come with the kit are supposed to be used for what? There is no mention of them in the instruction book. ?

The exact same question was also on my mind. It is my friend's fault that she put water in the container and then took a leaf off a milky weed with a caterpillar on A part of the leaf was eaten by it, then it was put in a It has been a pleasure to take part in this project. It is a beautiful sight to see monarch butterflies! The only time you can keep them is for two hours, after which they must be released. Due to the fact that I live in Florida, I now have many monarch butterflies around my butterfly plants. It's going to be fun to watch!

Caterpillar sanctuary of great quality
5/5

It's a no-brainer At the moment, I have four Monarch caterpillars living in my mesh tent. Chrysalis formed just before one morphed into a butterfly. I don't think the tent is just for them it's for me as well. I would be able to see the whole process of metamorphosis without using a tent, but they may be fine without it. You'll be fascinated by it. The mesh tent is simple to set up and it is very easy to take down. Detailed instructions are provided on the basics of caterpillar and butterfly care, which includes cleaning caterpillar waste on a regular basis. (Baby cats don't care where they poop. won't hold up very well. In the wind, the top continues to move despite the bottom being anchored. One of my caterpillars had trouble finding a place to attach to and pupate because of this. It might be worth considering a location that partially protects the tent from the elements, if you are planning on setting it up outside. A side of the tent is covered with plastic sheeting, and while it helps you see inside the tent better, it can also create a hothouse effect when it's in broad sunlight, so I made sure that side was pointed away from the As caterpillars are preparing to pupate (create chrysalis), I set up this tent on my patio table and move them inside as they get closer to chrysalis formation. The milkweed that those little buggers were munching on allowed me to transfer them by cutting off pieces and placing each cut into the floral water tubes that came As soon as they moved into their new home, the cats were happy to chow down and settled in quickly. The caterpillars can be put in the tent at any point (even when they're eggs) if the tent is filled with potted plants, rather than cuttings. It is nice being able to shelter the caterpillars inside this tent. And as long as you keep them occupied with fresh food for a while (milkweed for Monarchs), they will be safe Initially, I had the tent set up on a table in the open. Once the first chrysalis formed, I moved the tent to a more sheltered area under the roof overhang. I just wanted to be prepared in case there was a strong storm. I want to give them a little help, but they seem to be resilient. In addition to setting up this tent indoors, it can be used outdoors. You can open the zippered "door" either from the top or from either end, since it has two talons. It was actually one of my milkweed that rooted itself to the top of the zippered door, so I had to be careful when opening it in order to keep it fresh. It has taken a few short days for me to see my caterpillars eat their fill, crawl around the tent ceiling looking for the perfect pupation spot, and then change into chrysalises. It's going to be so exciting when the Monarch butterflies emerge! In addition to watching the caterpillars' transformation, and I myself have transformed into one of those crazy caterpillar nerds, I also feel good knowing I am helping to increase the Monarch butterfly population, even just a little bit.

Approximately the price is right for what I got
4/5

I ordered it just before I saw any caterpillars on my milkweed, so I really hoped it worked. The fact that it was available to me when I needed it was great. Toward the end of one day, I did bring it inside, as I wasn't sure if it would survive the storm, so I did not know about how warm it would get. Although it may be easy to clean, I found a hint about putting paper on the floor each day to clean it, so I have yet to make a mess. Those small tubes for holding leaves were a great idea and I saw a hint about sticking them in upside down egg cartons. is a very effective way of doing it. However, while there is nothing wrong with the plastic 'window,' it is so wrinkled and blurry that I would find nothing useful in it. This structure is very fragile and shakes a lot every time it is opened for cleaning or adding fresh leaves to it. disappointed to learn that the pupa I finally had, which I really wanted to raise, has been shaken too hard and will not survive. There were no signs that either of the two cats were inclined to climb to the ceiling If it did not seem secure enough, I wonder if it was not taut enough. In the end, I had to use a pot and some tiny branches for an attachment site, and that seemed So I can see the whole process of becoming a butterfly, I hope the second one lives.

What an awesome job you did! This will be my first cage, and I am extremely excited! To allow the caterpillars to eat, I put a flowerpot with milkweed branches in water
5/5

At the moment, I have one chrysalis hanging from the top, another hanging from a branch, and a caterpillar that is still eating. All three can be checked with one click! As I still have a lot to do, I haven't washed it completely, but it's kept clean on the bottom. I recommend it very much! I was pleased with the simplicity of purchasing and the speed of delivery. Also, the floral tubes are important. It's a great addition because you can put water in it and put single stems in it. You've got to find a way to stop them from falling over.

It is a great habitat for butterflies
5/5

Because of the large zipper on the side and the lids that lock tightly, you can easily access the inside. I also like how it came with the little vials with the water-tight tops, so that cuttings can maintain their moisture. It's nice that the cage has some straps that can be wrapped around other objects so that it can be anchored. The bag is lightweight, so if you are just putting cuttings inside for food, it might flake off in a If you are able to do so there is still plenty of space to put a couple of 1 gallon plants. The milkweed plants I am able to find for my monarch caterpillar are hard to find, which is why I am having to use cuttings. A very easy instruction booklet was also included for new users. As a result, you see a flat disk when everything is done.

There are already three chrysalises hanging from the top
5/5

My favorite thing about the tall cage is that it offers extra height to raise Monarch butterflies from eggs to butterflies. Having my milkweed cuttings inside and outside to water and clean daily helps me to avoid disturbing the chrysalis hanging from the top or the "cats" on the milkweed cuttings. Also, there is also extra room around the floor of the cage for extra cuttings that can be placed in containers when I see small "cats" appear on a leaf that I didn't see as an egg. So far, this cage is proving to be a good buy. I can hardly wait for my first three butterflies to emerge in about 10 days It has been 14 days since then. If I open the cage door, I find it helpful to use a couple of spring clips to allow the door to fully open,.

Everything seems to be working
5/5

This item is not supposed to be sheer or thick, so it's been given four stars instead of five. Caterpillars love the cage it's great for raising them. There's not much that can be done to make it easier to clean, but we're okay with that. You don't have to worry about mice chewing them unless they are in a place where mice will chew them!.

It is a perfect product
5/5

I just love I raised butterflies for the first time this year. I've found many cats that changed into chrysalis a few weeks ago and are now My plans for next year include getting another one. I've only had to change the bottom daily so I haven't had to clean it yet. In this case, I use paper towels so I can easily pick them up and dispose of them.
