I'd had one of these for years, ever since I began working with leather. To get started, I didn't spend a lot of money and just used what I had lying around the barn and workshop. My old ones were starting to show their age, so I decided to give these a shot. I used these to lay out stitching lines and give the leather a nicer look while making a sheath for my brother's chore knife today. While it is unlikely that he will notice that I tooled the leather to give it a nicer finish, it was important to me. He doesn't care about looks as long as it gets the job done. I simply had some free time and felt like making something useful and appealing to the eye, so I did. My lovely bride said he'll probably just look at it and grunt a little before putting it on his belt, which she doesn't realize is pretty high praise. Anyway, this small leather compass served my purposes admirably and appears to be durable enough to withstand the abuse of working with leather to repair and create items around the ranch. I don't make things to sell; I only make them for my family, friends, and ranch work.
These dividers appear to be well-made, with precise points that are easy to adjust. Although I've only used it once, I enjoy it.
Both points were twisted out of shape. Cheap Taiwan steel that can easily be bent back by hand. I shouldn't have to replace a brand new tool while they're still working. I should have followed rule #1 and spent a little more on a good tool. It was a good lesson.
The tines are a little bent out of line as a result of being larger than needed.
