In terms of roof trusses, I am not sure whether I have seen metal studs used. Attaching to studs made of metal, however, would not be advised.

My review had to be revised. first, I thought I was missing parts, but I later learned that the product came in 2 separate shipments more than a week apart. I have installed the product and it is quite simple to install. The product uses the wasted space above my garage door exactly as I had hoped. Installing it on your own is doable, but having someone help you will make it much faster. It was only the drilling instructions asking for a 3/16" drill bit that gave me any trouble. There was no way I could get those lag bolts into that hole no matter how many times I tried. The drill bit I used needed to be a little larger.
Sadly, as I mounted them, I labored over mounting them as there are no "much" 2x10 or 2x12 wood joists in the ceiling, just Two 2X2 boards on top and bottom separated by eight inches of OCB. In other words, they are designed for compression (weight of 2nd floor), not for Then, I added stud spacers to the wall and anchored one side, and now each other support is suspended by two separate studs. Also, to mount them to the wall (cabinets on others), I had to put them 18 inches above the garage doors.
